Short descritpion

One of the main characters in the first part of the Lost in the Light series. Ariamon comes from a very strange family of halcylians with strict rules and weird beliefs, who are super proud of their origins and natural powers, don't respect non-halcylian beings and even claim they're the only right "race" that should exist in the world, although they are aware that halcylians are very uncommon beings. Ariamon is the black sheep of the Zaivar clan, because he was born as ordinary human without the Light element in him - it's a case that his family can't understand and accept (it's said that it's impossible for two halcylians having non-halcylian baby, so it's a mystery why Ariamon is like this). The family hated him to the point they didn't want to admit to him and abused him, especially mentally - and Ariamon hated them as well.
Ariamon, in fact, had developed huge hatred towards ALL halcylians in his heart - he's really prejudiced to these people and despises them in general. After escaping from his family, he wants to get a revenge of halcylians and the more time passes by, the more determined he becomes - but ironically, right after murdering his younger brother, he starts to get closer with other halcylians in some ways. When Ariamon claims to be ready to take the role of a killer of halcylians, a lot of strange things are happen - he's literally torned between his eternal hatred and unknown new feelings.
When the main story starts, Ariamon is 21 and works in a library, still being friends with Ernie's family, who helped him a lot 6 years ago. After Ernie's daughter becomes a wife of a very suspicious nasty halcylian, Ariamon decides that he should get rid of this man. The main problems start just after Ariamon kills Maurice to save Vil from him. He is taken to Ausurius, the organisation that keeps peace between people and halcylians and solves matters regarding them, but instead of being punished for his crime, the leader, Variel, offers him joining the group of a spies who track the mysterious halcylian sect called Zevelia. For some reason it seems like Ariamon becomes someone important for Variel, who wants to give him a brand new chance. Ariamon is another example of character that just can't be considered as good or evil.

Personality/story

Ariamon is a quiet gloomy man who bears huge hatred toward all halcylian people and secretly wants to get rid of as many of them as possible. As a teen he's timid and fearful, not dealing well with the memories from the past, especially with the fact he murdered his brother (he was only 15 when he killed Oraiel). He becomes more possessed and confident as adult and is not so afraid of consequences of his actions, but he's still very quiet and full of hidden hatred. He seems to be unable to getting in a closer relation with anyone and is rather seen as reserved person with cold personality; he claims he doesn't need friends in his life, but actually he's REALLY thankful to Ernie for everything he did for him when he was a poor homeless boy. Ariamon prefers to stay away from all the halcylian-related stuff and live just a normal life, he's always assiduous and patient and enjoys having any job. He gets nervous really easy if people around him start to talk about halcylians and it's not so hard to provoke him - he may seem to be a very calm person, but in fact he can literally get mad. He despises all of halcylians and doesn't want to believe that there can exist halcylians with way different views who aren't so cruel like his family - due to his bad experiences from the past, he hates them all. The only exception is Ernie and Vil who also are halcylians; Ariamon fully accepts them (well, until some time) and doesn't even think about them as halcylians, because they live in a very normal way and avoid using their powers in daily life. He doesn't need a big reason to lose his trust, though. After some time, when he gets a chance to meet even more halcylians from different social environments, he seems to be completely confused and it's not sure about anything anymore. His views on halcylians change a lot - he seems to be torned between some different directions, the first represented by himself (all that hatred toward all halcylians), and the second represented by Variel (understanding that halcylians also are people and there is no good or evil side). After Variel decides to keep Ariamon in Ausurius as his "punishment", instead of sending him to jail, some slight changes in his behaviors are noticeable.  Ariamon stays incredibly mistrustful all the time, but he starts to realize that his situation surprisingly got better. Meeting Variel and getting closer to him made him change some of his views and he finally got some help he needed, but his own inner demons won't never let him free. Ariamon in Ausurius slowly realizes that there are better things to do for a revenge that just simply killing random halcylian people and finally starts to feel that he might not remain such an useless trash until the end of his days. Ariamon still absolutely hates to talk about his past, but Variel's presence helps him to deal with his horrible memories. For a long time he actually doesn't feel comfortable while interacting with him, but it slowly changes. Being around Variel, Ariamon seems a bit more confident (he's not as bad in conversations as Ernie might've thought). He enjoys being alone and prefers indoor activities, but seems to be actually quite curious when Variel asks him out. While having his "best" times, he's more willing to take an activity and discover things he never wanted to be discovered; he turns out to be kinda sarcastic and can be even quite impulsive when triggered, but he usually acts rather calmly and even has his nicer moments (wants to express his thankfulness in some way, shows some care). His behaviors change due to his mental problems and it's really not easy to guess what's going on in his head. Ariamon most likely will never get healthy, he's too broken and fragile after everything he came through...and still comes. Doesn't really understand why he has not been imprisoned in a normal jail + why Variel cares about him much more that he ever should, but slowly starts to appreciate it - now he has a chance to help with fighting against Zevelia, a group full of mad men reminding him of his own family, and now he has someone who he could name his mental support. Ending up in Ausurius' headquaters definitely isn't the end of his story - it's rather a beginning of a new part in his life.

Relations

His family - his father and mother were halcylian weirdos obsessed about their identities and powers, just as the other relatives as well. They lived in a small strange area, where almost every villager was related to them (due to many cases of incest). They were involved in a lot of evil things, believing they're doing the best for their "race" - Ariamon had many reasons to hate these people. Actually for the first 5 years of his life, Ariamon had a pretty normal childhood and wasn't treated badly - it all changes after his parents noticed that he hasn't showed up his Light (it should happen before child's 5th birthday). Rionna and Edielius couldn't accept the fact that Ariamon was "different", he was a first case like this in their family, so they immediately started to hate him (especially Edielius). The father always used to say that he would prefer to kill such a worthless kid and there's no reason to keep him alive, but Rionna couldn't agree for this, so they locked him up in the attic for the next 5 years. They abused him a lot and never treat him as member of their family. Some years later they decided to "exchange" him for a different halcylian child and he finally got a chance to escape. Ariamon especially despises his father Edielius, who had tried to kill him just before he ran away. Living surrounded by halcylians while not being a halcylian himself was a horrible experience for Ariamon; now he believes that ALL halcylians are just like Rionna and Edielius and just can't change his views.

Oraiel - his younger brother, his parents' beloved favorite. In their childhood Oraiel didn't treat Ariamon well, mainly because his parents convinced him that his brother is different and just worse and deserves to be treated in this way. After Ariamon escapes from home, 5 years later Oraiel starts to travel on his own to find him - only to tell him some weird things about the mysterious halcylian sect he belongs to, encouraging Ariamon to come back (definitely without good intentions, it is quite complicated). This is the moment when Ariamon can't stand any halcylian related things anymore - and kills his brother. Oraiel was only 13 in that moment.

Ernie - the man who helped Ariamon when he was a homeless teen; he decided to took him in to his flat and let him live there. Ernie is also a halcylian, but Ariamon accepts him, he and his daughter are the only exceptions that he doesn't despise and isn't afraid of (mainly because they live in a very normal way and never show off their powers). Ernie enjoys conversations with him, but Ariamon is rather better in listening than talking. He's very thankful for everything Ernie did to him, even though he usually doesn't express it in any way; he prefers to having neutral relations with the Saunders family and doesn't want to become close friends with them. Ernie knows that he shouldn't talk about topics related to halcylians while Ariamon is nearby; he seems to understand Ariamon's approach to halcylian people (he knows a bit about his family situation, but not about that he killed his brother). When Ernie changes his views, decides to get closer to halcylians and start to live a bit more magical life, Ariamon clearly disapprove this and he seems to be frustrated by that (what makes him furious the most is the fact that Ernie forced his daughter to marry such a jerk like Maurice and NEVER listened to her when she was complaining about this guy).

Vil - Ernie's daughter, also a halcylian, 3 years younger than Ariamon. She seems to be enchanted by him since beginning, but she knows she shouldn't be importunate and try to get closer to him at all costs. Ariamon knows that Vil is fascinated by him, but he is not interested in her - he seems to be quite careful about her though. He doesn't want anything bad happen to her and is ready to protect her. Vil is basically the reason why Ariamon commits his second crime. Even though Ariamon doesn't accept her feelings, she still likes him and doesn't try to change anything. After 1918 their relation is getting worse, as Vil becomes envy about him and can't treat him in the same way as before, after all that weird incidents with Rosalia are happen.

Cyrielle - Vil's vicious and cynical cousin, also a halcylian. At first moment Ariamon dislikes her and also thinks about her in the same way as of every halcylians in general and he gets nervous when she starts to talk about Zevelia sect. For some time he's even quite afraid of her. He doesn't have a particular relation with her in next years, but he somehow starts to appreciate her courage (as she becomes a fake member of Zevelia only to become a spy).

Maurice - Vil's husband, a son of a powerful halcylian who was Ernie's friend. Ernie decided to arrange their marriage only because he wanted a halcylian partner for his daughter (Ferristil, Maurice's father, also had his own reasons for this). Maurice turns out to be a horrible man with a lot of dark secrets and treats his young wife really bad - so Ariamon gets really angry and wants to get rid of him as soon as possible. Not even because he is envy about Vil. Maurice's actions reminds him of his own family's actions and it drives him to madness. After he kills him, all the main issues are start to happen.

Rosalia - the evil frivolous lady from the Zevelia, one of the Newcomer halcylians created by some mysterious being. She's literally that kind of halcylian who is hated by Ariamon the most, she's even WORSE than his family and she has some reasons to hate Ariamon as well, but for some reason this woman is literally obsessed with him. She meets him for the first time when he accidentally steals her prized posession, and even though she's clearly mad at him, she falls in love with him.  Or at least she believes that it might be love (she still tries to deny it, the whole thing is weird). Rosalia doesn't know anything about love, as she's not even a fully human being, so the feelings that she developed toward Ariamon aren't even close to real love. She often forces him to spend some time with her and desperately begs for his affection, even abuses him sexually. For most of the time Ariamon is afraid of this woman, as she reminds him of the worst experiences in his life, but there are some moments when he a) starts to feel pity for her, b) feels confident enough to try to kill her. Actually in the first concept of the story, Ariamon was supposed to feel something back to her and be interested in her, but it turns out that it's just completely impossible for him. He's a victim there. It turns out that this might be not accidental that Rosalia developed such an obsession about this certain human, Mr Endei has some crazy theories about it, but that's a long story. Ariamon and Rosalia become parents of Cilven, but neither of them is a good parent.

Variel - the leader of Ausurius, very intelligent and skilled young halcylian, a very important figure in Ariamon's life who has a big influence on him. In fact, Ariamon accidentally saw Variel for the first time when he was 6 and Variel was 2, later they saw each other in library when they were 16 and 12 so technically it was their first meeting, but it didn't lead to anything important. Variel only asked him: Mr Zaivar, do you want a donut? 5 years later Ariamon is taken to Ausurius to be judged for murdering a halcylian, he finally meets Variel personally and he's really surprised that such a young person is a boss of something such big as this whole organisation. Instead of just punishing him, Variel wants to give Ariamon a chance and tries to defend him, he thinks that he's an interesting case in some way and believes his person will help him in exploring the dangerous Zevelia group. He really wants better for Mon and believes in him, even if he can't really understand and accept it. Variel decided that he will do everything for letting Ariamon stay in Ausurius' hqs instead of imprisoning him in jail, emphasizing that he could be useful in the investigation against Zevelia (Ariamon actually had some interesting informations about it). Since that moment, Ariamon stays in... Variel's own apartment. As a "prisoner", somehow. But no one even treats him as a prisoner. That was a controversional decision and some of Ausurius' staff still can't understand it even after some years - technically Ariamon SHOULD'VE been imprisoned in jail for killing Maurice. Ariamon has a pretty decent life there, he has access to Ausurius headquaters and is slightly involved in its work. The only problem is that Zevelia, for some reason, needs him for some horrible process. And Mon is aware of it. Even since... he was...15. Because Oraiel once told him about this.
Variel is the only person who actually can change Ariamon's view about halcylian society and show him how many different groups are halcylians divided into. Ariamon seems to be enchanted by Variel's cheerful nature, he secretly admires him for his fair approach and neutrality in treating both halcylian and people, but he isn't sure if he can trust him. For most time he wants to stay loyal to him, but from the other side - he's still torned between the hatred toward halcylians and is simply too mistrustful. Variel seems to believe in Mon no matter what and has more knowledge about his situation better than anyone. He perfectly knows about his horrible past, is aware why Mon hates halcylians so much and doesn't want to let anyone hurt him anymore - though his co-workers can't really understand it and often criticize him for his attempts of caring for him. Why, if Mon's case is already closed? Their relation is quite interesting and complicated and it changes through almost 7 years, especially from Ariamon's side. Mon would never admit to it, but he is weirdly intrigued about Variel, not even like Variel-boss, but just Variel personally, though he doesn't always treat him nicely and sometimes acts like a ungrateful trash. Variel wouldn't admit it as well, but he really, really wants to help him and get closer to him, even though he's aware that it's probably not something that is morally good - Mon means for him more than he ever should. Variel was probably feeling pity for Ariamon even actually he had met him, as he had a lot of informations about the Zaivar family and knew that Edielius and Rionna had a non-halcylian child that they were treating very badly. From Variel's side it may look like he has some innocent crush on Mon, but he would never let anyone to know about this. Even since he was a child, Variel seemed to be intrigued about people from different social class than his own, so it's actually nothing weird that he doesn't care about Ariamon's horrible social position at all (he obviously knows how wrong it looks in front of his workers' eyes). Variel truly enjoys spending time with him, loves to share everything with him, showing him new things and secretly thinks of him as of a friend, but sometimes he feels kinda guilty (everyone states I really shouldn't bother myself with him anymore, as his case is closed now/maybe it's better for him if I'll leave him now?). Ariamon, who have always been heavily humiliated, has a trouble with understanding why on Earth someone could ever treat him so nicely, but he eventually lets him spoil himself, noticing how lonely person Variel actually is. Secretly he enjoys it as well - and cares for Variel too, though it's not easy for him to show it. Variel often gets super excited while meeting with him and talks a bit too much. After Ariamon ends up in psychiatric hospital for a while, he's often afraid that he will do something wrong and accidentally trigger his traumas, so he's even more careful about him, which Mon himself sees as silly and unnecessary.
Since Variel knew that Ariamon hates his name, he gave him a nickname Cinnamon. Despite they have contrastic personalities, both of them have also some common traits, and can get on quite well. Variel is constantely weirdly intrigued by Ariamon, and vice versa, they want to know about each other as much as possible, but both seem to...find it uneasy. Ariamon doesn't always feel brave enough to ask him personal questions, while Variel knows that Ariamon had experienced a lot of pain and doesn't want to dig into his past when it's not necessary. Variel feels a deep pity for him, but he tries to not perceive him just like a poor man who needs compassion. He finds his cold, sometimes even emotionless attitude interesting, but he loves when he can make him a bit more cheery and bring some smile on his face. He likes his ironic sense of humour and even tends to tease with him when Mon seems to get healthier. Ariamon at first may perceive Variel as a bit annoying, but he slowly gets used to his behaviors, and secretly, he starts to think about him as the best thing that had ever happened to him. For Ariamon it was actually very important to see that Variel has a lot of his own flaws too.
Variel enjoys every simple thing that they do together. He lets him join Ausurius team's meetings and informs him about everything, it also happened that he had taken him for an investigation AND even a carefree trip, but he likes to just spend nice and calm time with him in his apartment as well. These moments are especially precious for Variel, who usually doesn't have opportunity to spend time like this. Actually Ariamon made Variel like his own home a little bit more, as he feels like there finally is someone who waits for him... but hey, Ariamon just has to stay there, it's a part of his... so called "punishment". Ariamon, who had never needed that much of contact with other person, finds it a bit weird, but accepts it, though he doesn't force himself to spend time with him when he feels overwhelmed. Variel seems to not really care for what people say if they see them together, but he is aware that it may bring some problems to whole Ausurius + he doesn't want to expose Mon to danger, so they avoid showing publicly together. Variel seems to notice perfectly when Ariamon needs a break from social interactions, while Ariamon sees Variel as a big help to get even a bit more sociable. Variel tries to prove Ariamon that he doesn't really need one particular reason to live and just keep living, as he is as worth it as any other human being. He doesn't want him to get destroyed by his will of vengeance and hatred (both towards halcylians and himself). He tries to show him a different way of perceiving world and he's actually doing pretty well, because Mon gets much healthier while living in Ausurius. Both of them have their own very personal reasons for wanting to end Zevelia's existence, but Variel seems to be aware that killing off random members of it just isn't the right solution. Variel states that Ariamon had became his own another motivation for fighting with Zevelia. Since he gets to know that Zevelia will need Ariamon someday for their Master's Reviving Ritual, he's even more afraid that something bad may happen to him again. He can't help it - while Ariamon's feelings towards Variel in facts slightly change, Variel can't change his feelings about him. He claims this ginger rat from the trash can is his favorite person in the universe and he's not going to change his mind. Even though... Variel feels a bit guilty. He starts to realize that the whole situation reminds him of his father, who committed a lot of mistakes just by desperately trying to protect him. This is not 100% morally good. But does it really have to be?
note: although their galleries are filled with ship art, canonically they aren't a couple (well, I guess it won't be a mistake to say that VariMon is actually semi-canon, even though none of them would admit this. they have a strong chemistry and often act like a pair (hey they live together!), but they don't do interactions that are clearly romantical. none of them is courageous enough)

Cilven - his son (born in 1918) who later becomes one of the main characters in second part. Cilven's father. At first Ariamon is deeply shocked that he is going to have a child and clearly doesn't want to become a parent, but he decides to take this child from Rosy and protect it from her, as she's not mentally stable and does absolutely horrible things. Ariamon passes Cilven to Vilearnee, who already raises her own son Fervil. It quickly turns out that Mon can't deal well with his new role, while Vil seems to treat his child in a very reserved and cold way, because she can't stand the fact it's a son of Rosalia. Ariamon starts to be afraid that Cilven will be a halcylian too and he's worried that he just will start to hate him, so he decides to pass the child to Variel, asking him if he could find him a foster family or take him to the orphanage. Surprisingly Variel decides to keep Cilven in Ausurius. Cilven claims that he hates his father only a bit less than the mother, but in fact, Ariamon didn't do so many bad things to him as Rosalia did, he was just ignoring him for most of the time and was afraid of his own child. Still not sure about Ariamon and Cilven's relations after Variel's death, but I plan to give Ariamon a chance to fix his relations with son in the future. After 1925, Cilven seems to be the only thing that still keeps Ariamon alive.

Arkadius- When Arkadius notices Ariamon in Ausurius, he seems to accept not only the fact he lives there, but he is fine with that Variel sees a friend in Mon. Despite Ariamon is very scared of him at the beginning, as everything that comes from Halmaime scares him, he slowly learns that Arkadius is a totally okay guy. The halcylian treats him just like other Ausurius' workers - but he clearly sees that Mon means a lot for Variel.

Some other fun facts

- Drawing notes: please note that his hair should be auburn-dark red not just brown (it's better if you draw his hair more red than brown) + it's just a little bit wavy, not too much, usually shoulder lenght; his eyes are hazel with golden highlights. He's supposed to be rather skinny (but still not like unhealthy skinny), visibly smaller than Variel.
- Here ispoorly made Ariamon's family tree.
- Technically he's a revamped version of my character from 2011 named Orion, but his personality and design changed completely. The only things that I decided to keep the same from the old concepts are 1) his eye color; 2) most of his relationships with other characters, 3) his general role of the protagonist + becoming a father of Cilven, 4) the concept of his weird crazy family. The biggest change is that Orion was meant to be a halcylian too, while Ariamon is not.
- Almost all his outfits are either Variel's old clothes or clothes that Variel has bought for him. From the time before he met Variel - either stolen, or clothes found in the trash can. He just never buys his own clothes.
- Variel canonically calls him Cinna-Mon sometimes. He mostly uses Mon for him, Ariamon dislikes shortening his name to Ari (which is often used by Vil). Cyrielle often calls him a rat and it's very accurate.
- When he was homeless, for a short time he used to be a member of a small gang (being only 14), he became addicted to smoking in this moment. He has a lot of bad memories from this part of his life because  he also experienced a lot of physical/sexual abusement around that time. He also stole a gun from the gangsters and 7 years later uses it for the first time.
- According to the doctor who takes care of him in Ausurius, Mon has bipolar disorder and PTSD. He often harms himself on purpose and goes suicidal from time to time, he clearly can't stand himself
- Though females find him attractive, he seems to be not very interested in them, even if he notices how pretty some of them are. Ariamon wasn't in actual relationship and doesn't even want to change it, however, he had some very bad experiences with sex (facts too nsfw to be placed here)
- Although he's not a halcylian, he carries the "halcylian gene"; it explains why he tends to randomly meet halcylians so often (because of the halcylian magnetism feature), + also it increased the chances for Cilven to be born as halcylian as well.
- Soon after he got his revamp, I was thinking that Ariamon is certainly bisexual; now it's not that clear, he might be biromantic or even homoromantic, but most likely asexual.
- The Zaivar family has english, italian and halmaimean roots.
- Mon dislikes being called ginger. For some reason, Arkadius Rievan does it everytime when he speaks to him.
- Ariamon spends 5 years in Ausurius headquarters (as his "punishment"). After this Variel lets him choose if he wants to stay there for longer time or start living on his own. Ariamon chooses the second option, but he doesn't do well and can't really get use to normal life, so eventually he comes back to Ausurius.
- His eyesight is quite bad, because in the past his brother "blinded him" with his power (not sure if he did it on purpose or if it was only an accident, as Oraiel was very little in that moment). He started to wear glasses around age 15-16.
- He gets a vertical wound on his chest, its story is really disturbing and it has something in common with Zevelia for sure.
- After he starts to take his medicines from psychiatrist, he is often sleepy. He tries to stop taking it, but it always gets worse.
- At the beginning, Mon is the least picky person ever and will eat anything as long as it's edible (or even not); however, after spending right time in Ausurius, he starts to be somewhat more picky and doesn't look for food in trash can. He doesn't share Variel's love for super sweet things, but when Variel offers him some, he doesn't refuse. He never does.
- He enjoys using typewriter at Variel's house, but for long time he doesn't really know what he should be writing, it seems to help him with stress though. He might start writing something more interesting in the future.
- He seems to like fish, both as food and animal, Variel even gets him an aquarium.
- He is afraid of parrots.. for certain reasons.
- Has rather poor condition, can't swim and horse riding scares him (Variel still keeps encouraging him to sit on his majestic equine).
- Has a nice singing voice, but he has to be very drunk to present it. He doesn't drink often though, as he has to take his medicines.
- Surprisingly, he's a better driver than Variel (he stole a car when he was younger, so he has some idea how to use it).
- Can't cook for shit, he's a walking disaster if it comes to cooking. Ariamon, Ancheal and Ester are the Worst Cook Trio™
- A very fun but not so important fact is that his great-grandfather is the main villain of the first part, Arevalte. His mother's father is Frielon - a character related to Saida, one of the experimental Valte's children. There's a gigantic family tree of these halcylians you know
