rise of the Overseer

You have been the catalyst to the Prodigal, my dear.
I've built it with my own hands. And now I have full intentions to hand it over to its future.
You don't realize it, little girl. Elois is proof of your potential. But she is not the one I'm looking for.
I'm only here to unlock everything inside of you.
You are the future. My future.

Emery.

Trivia

  • Emery and Elois reach to a conclusion after Atticus helps Emery realize Elois's purpose. Though Elois has no ill intentions to replace her as a whole, Elois almost completely withdraws herself - trying to understand her reason of existence. Soon after, Elois no longer appears.
    > Even Emery had attempted to see if there was any way to bring her back but there was no avail. All of Elois's memories now appear as Emery's dreams. Many of them involving Chanse.
  • Emery and Grandfather had a romantic period throughout the time she was under his guidance. She had been marked, and was under suspicion of being pregnant... but Grandfather demanded that she'd take levonorgestrel (a plan B pill) to prevent such things happening.
    > Despite denying it, Grandfather does have feelings for Emery. However, his plans prevent him from developing their relationship any further. He ultimately shoes jealousy and hate towards Hope as well.
  • Grandfather was the one to find Hyde's unfortunate situation, bringing it to Emery's attention so that they could save Hyde from death.
    > Atticus didn't want anything to do with Hyde afterwards but he wanted to join the Prodigal to return the favor. Soon enough, Atticus turns Hyde into a private agent that would be working solely for Emery as a bodyguard.
  • Emery still has the hobby of making clothes. Grandfather hired contractors to build a workshop in their home.
    > Emery enjoys making clothes for Grandfather. Half of his wardrobe are custom made clothing built by her.

Design Notes

  • Emery no longer wears very colorful outfits, and decides to stick with simple, monochrome colors... typically black is her preferred color. However, she still makes her own clothes... and Atticus's.
  • Decides to grow out her hair. Her hair runs between a bobcut or even longer.

Events of the Grand Prodigal

EMERY

[TLDR in the End]

One day Emery woke up in the comfort of the unknown. Plush pillows and satin blankets kept her warm through the cold winter - a large glass panel that was overseeing a familiar city. This was the first time she saw her home so high up.

Faint memories began to pass through. Flashes of her body being carried away by a man in red. Though his glare was intense, he was gentle all the way through... until she fell asleep in his arms. It was him that encouraged her to rest - only because she didn't have a good night's rest before meeting him.

Atticus was his name. He demanded that she remained by his side or else it would be cause more problems to him. Emery, whose confidence was completely broken, didn't want to trouble anyone else and listened to him. She didn't leave the penthouse unless Atticus did. In fact, she didn't want to leave the comfort of her bed.

"You poor little girl."

She heard him say under his breath, before he'd leave a glass of water for her to drink. She heard him clearly, while pretending that she was fast asleep.

++++++

It had been a few weeks since Grandfather took her in his home. When she left the home with him, she was known to be the "tiny assistant" to him - as the CEO of the Demos Corporation. She's in awe, not realizing that there was a direct relationship between the company and the Prodigal itself. Then again, it shouldn't have been so obvious in the first place - otherwise the organization wouldn't have lasted very long under his leadership.

Demos's plan was to break the barrier between him and the girl before he'd discuss anything involving the Prodigal. Barely recovering from her situation with Hope - Emery found Atticus to be so patient with her... despite that she took great lengths solely because of a breakup. Occasionally depression hit her, constantly questioning Atticus as to why she was there in the first place.

But the answer is always the same.

"You're not ready."

After the fourth time, it irritated her. Actually...

it had irritated Elois most of all.

++++++

Elois was awakened sooner than Atticus expected her to be. The whole time Atticus watched her and she was everything that was exactly mentioned according to the records.

Despite a mastermind, Grandfather still found her predictable and easy to manipulate. And most definitely... easy to anger - which he did plenty to test her. But all attempts of her to overthrow Atticus only ended in failure. The man in red has no interest in speaking to Elois any longer, thus refusing to communicate with her until she brought back Emery.
And that the was most difficult task; turning Elois into Emery had been rather hard according her past experiences with her. Emery apparently had not been mentally strong enough to break through the barriers that Elois created to protect her.

"Listen to me, little girl." Atticus whispered. His hand covered her eyes and all she thought of was the world of black. He held her close, with his mouth to her ear. "Elois is no longer protecting you-"

"Lies!"

Her teeth grit in anger. She existed to keep her safe. Elois was there to prove how valuable she was as a person. Without her, she will no longer be worthy to the organization.

"Elois is no longer protecting you."

"Stop it..."

She begins running her fingers through her hair... trying her hardest to not pull the strands.

"You haven't learned a single thing, Emery. She wasn't letting you this whole time. Have you realized it yet? It's no longer protection."

"Stop..."

Atticus could feel the tears seeping out of her eyes and running down her face. His hand now soaked in her struggle.

"It's control."

Though in complete denial, Emery has never thought of it that way. The realization had only given her pain during this, but Atticus could tell that she was finally back and allowed her to shed her tears for the rest of that night. All she really had now was the embrace from her only company.

++++++

It was that night that allowed her to feel so attached to Demos. Emery didn't know how much he pampered her until after he finally explained her purpose of being there.

He had been watching her since they reported about Elois's first appearance in the Prodigal. At first Grandfather was interested in the development and Elois alone, but the longer he watched Emery... he realized that the original would prove better as a leader. All he needed to do was to constantly put Emery through a series of tests until she was capable enough.

Atticus was open about his own being. He wasn't human in the first place and his immortal life-span allows him to be more patient and tolerable than the normal human. He didn't mind if it was going to take years to get where Elois currently stands, but he needed to take the consideration of the Prodigal.

And he admits, he also became attached to her overtime. The desire of claiming her as his own became so obvious to the people around them. Marking her so unexpectedly made him realize his own feelings. But before Emery could find out, he pretended to deny them, because he prioritized the Prodigal over his own selfish needs. She later accepted her purpose, as Grandfather ingrained it into her brain. He used loved to get her to where she's at - with no help with Elois... who never came back since that night.

One morning, the young woman disappeared - nowhere to be found in his home. Atticus found a single note on his office desk:

'Thank you.'

He folded the note rather neatly before he tossed it into the bin nearby, as if he pretended to not care. Yet he slowly sunk into his chair, now conflicted with his own feelings.

"So it's finally time."

The Overseer is finally here.

In the disappearance of Emery once again, Atticus leaves a parting gift: Appointing Hyde as her personal bodyguard. Demos finally announces himself to the Prodigal and immediately forces himself as its Arbiter, despite the role was intended for someone else, he spared no one - especially Hope - who could possibly be in the way of their Overseer.

++++++

"What're you looking at?" Hyde curiously looked over her shoulder. She had been silent for the past two hours... which is normal for her, even if she had company or not. All she does every single day, and every single hour, was watch the monitors around her. But one screen caught her attention.

All she saw was his long black hair. Even if it was from a distance, she was immediately captivated once again. No matter how long ago since that day... she was still longing for him.

"He hasn't changed one bit," He finally understood what the Overseer had been staring at.

"He looks tired."

"Since you disappeared, our friends haven't seen him. Though, Chanse did say that he hasn't been sleeping well and stopped teaching to focus on the Prodigal."

"Then that's the reason how he's become a Headmaster. Unfortunate that Atticus has taken the role he was supposed to have."

"Though isn't it better? If he wasn't in the way, then Hope-"

"Hope still wouldn't know who I was regardless what title he was given. I wouldn't let him."

Hyde went silent. Hope's figure on the monitor disappeared as he walked offscreen and Emery immediately switched cameras before he'd come back.

"He was surprised when we saw each other in person after I was admitted into the Prodigal. I'll be honest with you, Emery... he's looks much worse than before. You haven't saw it yourself; Atticus isn't doing anymore justice with the way he's been treating Hope. Don't you feel any pity for him?"

Pity wasn't the word she'd describe how she feels with Hope right now. As much as she wants to rightfully give the Arbiter title to him, there is a limit to what she can do for one single person.

"...I will talk to Durand. Please keep an eye on Hope and Atticus."

"Will do."

TLDR

- Emery attempted to shoot herself but she was intercepted by Grandfather, the founder of the Prodigal. He takes her home and she remains missing to the public.

- The whole time Emery stays with Grandfather, she doesn't know about her significance to him. Elois, reawakens, in order for her to find out the reason why. But Atticus uses this opportunity to attempt to remove Elois, or at least reverting her back to Emery.

- Emery now questioning Elois's existence, she becomes reliant on Atticus. After knowing her purpose of becoming the "Overseer" she spends the next few years learning under his wing.

- Overtime the two of them grew attached, but Atticus denies their feelings. He claims that the love they had was merely on a whim, and was only motivation for her to work harder. Emery soon accepted this, deciding that it was time for her to take her place as Overseer.

- Emery, proclaiming her title as Overseer leaves Grandfather's side. Hyde, who had been saved by the two of them, accompanies the Overseer as her personal bodyguard while Atticus finally reveals himself to the Prodigal and takes the Arbiter title for himself.
