( trivia )

  • Andy came to dislike basketball due to his cousins annoying him repeatedly to play basketball with him. They'd sometimes throw the ball to Andy too even though Andy didn't want to play.
  • When he first arrived in Korea, it was hard for him to drop the "po" and "opo" when speaking to non-Filipinos.
  • Every time Andy is posing for a picture, he does the pogi sign. He'd also bend his knees a bit next to Min even though their height difference isn't huge. He mainly does this to tease Min.
  • Even though Andy likes his long hair, sometimes he'd have the urge to cut it as he found it annoying to take care of his hair.
INTERVIEW TIME!

01.
How was it like training for your group?

Before I went to Korea to train, I already had lots of dancing experience since I used to be in a dance studio with my friends. I got into KPOP thanks to one of my friends and I was satisfied just doing cover dances for KPOP songs. But my mind changed when I saw my friends wanting to audition to be in a KPOP group. The training period was anxiety-inducing, partly because I've never been to Korea before. There were also other foreigners in the company, but I still felt somewhat left out. Luckily I have my members who I got along with too in my trainee years!

02.
Which member did you get along with first?

Minsoo! There was a time where I had a heated argument with people, and Minsoo defended me in that room. Later, he sat with me during lunch since no one wanted to eat with me after the fight. That memory would forever be stuck with me, since that was the first time I felt like someone had my back.

03.
Could you explain your representative emoji?

My representative emoji is a candy because my childhood friends used to call me that since I always ate candy~ now I'm careful of my diet!

04.
What are your hobbies?

Karaoke is something I do a lot! It's fun singing to songs without a big audience, and you don't always have to be so serious. Though I noticed how serious Dae is when he sings no matter if it's on stage or karaoke. Even Minsoo doesn't take karaoke as seriously as Dae does!

05.
Do you have a memory you'd like to share?

Oh boy... There was one time where Hani got insanely drunk and I was his drinking buddy. I brought him to our dorms and since Yuu was his roommate at the time, I was going to leave Yuu to him. But then I realized Yuu is currently out and I don't feel comfortable leaving Hani by himself. Minsoo was also out at the time and he was my roommate. I texted him letting him know that Hani's sleeping on his bed and Minsoo was fine with it. I took care of Hani and luckily he fell asleep fast after I placed him on Minsoo's bed. Unluckily however, I was woken up by Hani hitting me with a pillow in the morning cuz he got scared thinking he was in a stranger's room. These kids...

The Beginning

Before Andrew moved to Korea, Andrew already had many experience in dancing since he used to be in a dance studio with his friends. He got into KPOP thanks to them and later started auditioning to be in a KPOP group. Andrew went to Korea after finishing high school and was 18 years old when he went to audition. When Andrew stepped foot into Korea, immediately he felt anxious. While his experience in Korea so far has been mostly positive, he's experienced discrimination as a foreigner. However, that didn't stop him from going after his goals. When he was taken in as a trainee for a company, Andrew felt awkward when he looked at the other trainees. He noticed that while there are foreigner trainees training alongside him, Andrew stood out the most.

Andrew worked his hardest to improve on his skills and whenever other trainees struggle in dancing, Andrew would offer them help. Though some of those trainees would brush him off as a response and Andrew took that as a sign to not talk to them anymore. He'd still talk to them if they approach him, but he wouldn't start a conversation with him as he wanted to avoid dealing with difficult people. Despite how hard it was to deal with the intense environment, Andrew was always praised for his dancing skills and was told he's a gem, so his skills weren't left unnoticed. Andrew eventually pulled through and debuted in MESSIRE. Andrew was lucky to be placed in a group with members who would treat him as equal and make him feel welcomed.

TDLR
  • Andrew moved to Korea to audition in a KPOP group.
  • Andrew felt discriminated against in his stay, but his experience was mostly positive.
  • No matter how difficult the environment is for Andrew, he still ended up in a group with members who gave him familial love.

Min was the first member he got along with in his trainee years, and that was because Min stood up for him when Andy was treated harshly by other trainees. Min was Andy's first friend and they hung out with each other a lot. Andy would also tease Min and tease him about his height despite only being 3 cm apart.

Andy has actually watched the dramas Dae starred in before Andy went to Korea. The first role he saw Dae play as is a highschooler, so when Andy saw Dae outside of the dramas, he was surprised to know they're the same age. Andy would sometimes impersonate Dae's roles and Dae would find it funny.

Tall baby

Hyunwoo was sometimes Andy's dancing partner back then, and Andy thought Hyunwoo was cold at first because of how quiet and blunt he is. Turns out that Hyunwoo was shy to get to know others. Andy thought this part of him was adorable and Andy would also teach Hyunwoo English phrases since Hyunwoo wanted to try to rap with more English words.

Partner in crime

Back when they were trainees, Hani saw Andy crying in the practice room by himself. He saw Andy crying while prayiny, so wanting to support him, Hani decided to pray with him. Even though they barely knew each other, Hani didn't want to leave Andy alone. Andy appreciated Hani a lot because of this, and the two became best friends. They mess with each other a lot, love to tell dirty jokes, and even prank other members.

Responsible kid

Andy knew Yuu after Yuu was in the company for a week. All he heard was that Yuu is Japanese, and Andy wanted to get to know a new foreigner trainee. One day, he went to the cafeteria and saw Yuu sitting by himself. Andy sat with him and asked what he was doing, and Yuu said he was studying Korean. Andy offered to help him and their friendship blossomed from that moment.
