Being an undercover cop for the Toledo police, Ytze had to learn quick how to worm his way into drug rings and gangs alike to rat them out to the police, all while keeping his cover. As a result, Ytze is terrified of the thought of getting his real identity exposed, frequently donning human disguises and staying in them, even around his coworkers. To add onto this, Ytze has a habit of lying about his past, to hide the fact that he's a changeling from most of the people he interacts with.

Origin:

Ytze was a changeling since he was born, to a family of master shapeshifters. He was bullied initially at school for the way he looked and his weird name (I mean, c'mon, what kid would be named YTZE KARN?), but he initially brushed it off and tried to toughen up despite the bullies.

However, as he grew older, the petty insults and occasional shove you'd expect from bullies turned into outcasting him and treating him like a horrible monster that'd murder their family without a second thought. At first it was nothing, but then it really started to get to him, to the point that he got into a heated argument with a human student about how they shouldn't be treating Ytze like shit until they knew shit about him beyond what he looked like. They didn't like that, so after school, he was ambushed by the bully and their friends. They practically tortured him, breaking his horns and stabbing him with silver blades (as many supernatural entities were weak to silver, many assumed the same would apply to Changelings), before getting bored and leaving him there, silver blade still stuck in him. He pretty much limped home, his parents alarmed when he returned in that state.

After the incident, a decision had to be made. For the safety of Ytze himself, he would have to adopt a human disguise and a human name for the remainder of his schooling, possibly for the rest of his life depending on the field...So he did. It was a simple disguise, somewhat close to what he looked like but as a human, and called himself "Carlos Smith".

And it worked. While he did still suspicious glances on occasion, people started treating him better. For the remainder of High School, no one bothered him about what creature he was, although to much of his dismay the name listed on his high school diploma was that of his human persona and not his real name. But that mattered little: As he entered the police force, things were going well....

Until his disguise slipped in front of everyone. He's not quite sure how it happened, possibly a mix of terror over minor slips culminating into the disguise straight up dropping in front of people, but it happened nonetheless. The next few days he didn't sleep well, the fear of losing his job kept waking him up at night... but rather than fire the changeling, the head of the department saw some use in having Ytze in the squad. They were in need of someone who could sneak in and bust drug rings and whatever else was going on, and Ytze fit that bill to a T.

So the offer was made to become an undercover cop, which Ytze accepted, relieved that he was actually keeping his job at the Toledo PD. And he's worked that job ever since.

Other:

-Would occasionally drop the disguise while at work, but after Reagan entered the squad and often talked shit about Supernaturals, Ytze has been more reluctant to drop it, usually doing it when Reagan isn't around.

-Still occasionally uses his human name, but for the most part he goes by his birth name nowadays, as a way to re-embrace his Changeling heritage.
