Calm - reserved - stoic - wise - resourceful

Edward himself is a rather calm and collected individual. Very little fazes him these days due in part to his age. If anything, threats to his life and safety are met with a chuckle, as he's seen almost everything. He is also noted as being a cold but somewhat caring individual, with your safety as his highest priorities. As it comes with the territory of being a detective, he is very intelligent, quick-witted and resourceful. He doesn't show that many emotions, as he's learned to keep a straight face when faced with tough choices and high stakes.

That isn't to say Ed doesn't feel any emotions, far from it. While he normally has the patience of a saint when it comes to dealing with people who are uncooperative, he does have some sore spots and other ways to set him off, although it is rare to see him become enraged, much less afraid. One is anything to do with his family, especially his older brother: He doesn't have the best of history with them, and he leaves it at that. Another is catching a criminal, only for them to brag about their crimes as if they aren't going to face consequences. Taunts are not as likely to actually get a facial or expressive reaction from Ed, but he's not about to stop a squad-mate from shooting at the criminal, or in a tight situation he'll take matters into his own hands to make sure the most people get out of the dangerous situation unharmed.

Origin:

Edward did not have an easy beginning. He was born blind in a time where it was the least convenient: The Great Depression. So already, life kind of sucked for him, as both parents worked tirelessly to survive in a broken economy. Didn't help much that his brother, Eric Matrix, was a vampire who frequently sucked blood from Ed because he could never see who was doing that.

But that all changed in 1939, when Ed was 8 years of age. A strange creature known simply as the Medicine Maker visited him, sensing his blind eyes, and offered a trade: Ed's human eyes, which could honestly only be used for medicine in the supernatural world, for a new pair of eyes, a pair that works, and would allow him to see once more. Edward eagerly accepted, and the trade was made. But there was some fine print: The new eyes Edward got allowed him sight, yes, but since they were the eyes of a supernatural, he ended up stuck in that world for a few weeks, having to serve the Medicine Maker to make a solution to his problem: A pair of Glasses. Once they were completed, Edward was allowed to go home, using said glasses to return back to the real world and back into the loving arms of his worried parents and his vampiric brother. 

It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows when he came back home. He woke up one night to Eric's fangs in his neck. In a panic, he yelled for help and tried to push Eric off of him. This ended up making a mess, as the normally bloodless ritual ended up going awry and spilling blood all over the bed. Fearing the loss of control, Eric struck Ed pretty hard to get him to shut up. It worked at the time, and Ed shut up in fear of being hurt. When he was 18, he moved out of his parent's home, and severed all communication with Eric, never wanting to speak to him again after what he had done to Ed.

Fast forward a couple decades, and Edward finds yet another fine print to his new eyes: He ages much slower compared to his friends and family. To make matters worse, he was outliving most of his original squad, and people were getting suspicious of him being in the police force for so long, and looking not too much older than he did when he first entered the police force. To avoid risking his secret from being leaked to the public (and heaven knows what would happen to him afterwards), he resigned from being an officer and became a detective, thinking it would be less concerning if a detective lived a really long time. And he's worked as one ever since, solving many cases and catching many criminals.

Abilities:

Edward's eyes are that of a supernatural's, so if he were to take off his glasses, he could enter the supernatural world and essentially vanish in the real world. As an added bonus, his glasses can let anyone with normal eyes peer into the supernatural world. However, the supernatural world has its own set of dangers that make it no better than the real world: the inhabitants. Most of the creatures there are eyeless and are looking to gain sight once again, and will attack anything that seems promising (AKA anything that makes an excessive amount of noise). The Glasses are also indestructible, so the only way he'd get locked in the supernatural world again was if he lost them.
