Luciano adores Fù Nàxià, his best friend, the moon to his sun, the person he watches Pretty Power Devil Shine with. Others may look at Fù Nàxià and find her unnerving but when Luciano looks at her all he sees is one of his favorite people in all of Burrowgatory.
I'd say she'd one of my first friends I can remember having. She's there for all her friends, and it's nice to know she'll never judge me. I trust her enough. I'll for sure let her call me Grant.
May have maybe thought she was a child at first...
Zvezda's a lot of fun! Surma enjoys someone who can crack a good joke and make the travel lighthearted - there's no point in going somewhere if the trip itself isn't enjoyable, you know? They look forward to any future bouts they might have, and appreciate the mutual support.
A pal! Zvezda doesn't know Surma especially well, but it sounds like they might have a bit in common. Even after just one adventure, Zvezda feels strongly that she wants to support Surma. Any time they need someone to help them travel, she'll be there.
They say if a fisherman catches both a fish's parents, in her anger, she grows into a siren. But they also say that a woman who betrays her lover, she becomes a siren, too. And then some people say if the gods get jealous of a beautiful woman's song, they curse her to spend the rest of her days as a siren... What a foolish set of rumors, aren't they? But even then, not even a siren knows of her own origins; only that she is born knowing and remembering pieces of another world—another life...
Once, asked for her name, Daphne spat out the first one she could think of. It was yet another small piece to carry into constructing someone new, but not entirely so.
Lillia is sweet and shy and Meriwether would like to support her in getting out of her shell. It’s a bit difficult to do often though, given Kites’s reaction to her (a reaction that worries them a bit - but it’s Lillia, so what could possibly be the problem). A bit in awe that she still goes to the front lines as much as she does despite how fragile she can seem.
The tragic truth is that Meriwether just sort of throwing things at Laurel is like 80% of why she even hangs out anywhere near the island, creating a horrible infinite loop. Landfolk sure are weird, but it gets her cool trinkets!
Meriwether is absolutely certain that Laurel is going to one day sing someone to their death despite her not having been a threat in ages. The cheap gifts (/tribute) they keep dropping into the sea are their way of keeping them from being the target.
He can't afford to get under her skin thanks to her regular customer status, which means her kindness and willingness to drag him into a chasm-diving party's shenanigans gets under his skin. Though she is competent, he'll give her that.
It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that Latonya thinks Arima is a pretty cool guy, actually. Granted, the vast majority of her interactions with him have been at the flower shop where she's a regular. She has enough awareness to recognize that he kind of has to be nice to her because of this and she shouldn't be over-familiar (even though it's nice to recognize someone in the newness of the Chasms), but there's no reason not to be friendly!
As one of the knights who helped to protect Rosen during the Divodra uprising 5 years ago, Rosen is very thankful towards Ferelith, but other than that, they're not sure what to think about her. They're pretty sure Ferelith thought they were a horse at one point? At least she seems to do good work.
Emeline has no idea where Ferelith has come from, and honestly, with how little there is in Ferelith's brain, she doesn't really want to know. Emeline sort of gets some baffled amusement from Ferelith, curious that someone with the same draconic lineage as her has grown up so differently. In a way, Ferelith has opened her eyes to the possibilities of many differences across the draconic people. As such, Emeline might be a bit too lenient of Ferelith's shenanigans than she should be.
Lillia respects Sybil very much and sees him as something of a source of authority, but she's also absolutely fucking terrified of him, both in that baseline way she's terrified of literally everybody, but also in a way where she doesn't know how to process being on the receiving end of any amount of concern except by devolving into rampant paranoia over keeping her secret. So that's fun!!! While she worries about his well-being, she's too much of a pushover to pursue it...
"Thank you for helping me, but...did you really have to lift me?" Sybil respects Lillia's strength, and appreciates her kindness. He also tries to warn her of taking care of herself, though he neglects to take this advice himself.
Khanysile's loyalty to and love for Mhambi is absolute. She practically worships the ground Mhambi walks on and thinks of her as capable of anything. Though they don't talk about it, Khanysile is aware that her own lifetime is barely a blink of time for Mhambi, and that she's likely far from Mhambi's first dearest human—but Khanysile trusts Mhambi so much and so deeply that she would never assume she means any less because of it.
This absolute love and loyalty is not new for Mhambi in the way it is for Khanysile, but Mhambi would kill and die for her apprentice without question. Khanysile is not the first human Mhambi has taken under her wing and grown so attached to, but there will only ever be one Khanysile, and so the relationship is still special. Mhambi has always taken care of Khanysile, and always will.
