prompt one: a guiding light

Despite the Order’s warnings about the poisoned river, not everyone has stayed away. For reasons of their own, your character finds themselves in the vicinity. Walking along the river, it’s not hard to see the reason for the warnings; the river’s surface is shimmering with something oily and shimmering, froth building up along the edges. A few fishes are gently floating downstreams, belly up.

Evening is falling, the sky darkening in the east, and the forest is growing dim and dark on the other side of the river.

Suddenly, there is a flickering light just beyond the edge of the trees, small and faint, visible for only a few moments, then it disappears. A small flame.

The bridge across the river is right there—and the path is leading towards the light too. And there it is again! The light returns, a little further away this time, but this time it seems to stay…

What does your character do?

prompt two: a twofold choice

The lights flicker and dance mesmerizingly, and as your character follows them, the sky darkens. They seem to lead deeper into the woods, along a winding path, and the branches of the trees beside it are curiously bent and broken.

Eventually, the trees fall away to reveal a jumble of stone ruins—probably an old Wild Clan outpost, long since forgotten and overtaken by the jungle.

There is a cloying, sweet smell in the air, and from somewhere deeper within the ruin, a deep sniffling, snorting sound is coming.

To the side is a beautiful tree. It almost glistens in the faint moonlight, and its cascades of pink blossoms invite a closer look.

Does your character investigate the strange sound, or do they admire the tree?

prompt three: out of the frying pan

Suddenly, there is a loud noise of snapping branches and bending trees. From behind comes a large wheel-shape, shimmering white in the moonlight, followed by bright flames that flicker and die in the wake of the thing.

It looks to be some kind of large wyrm, with a sharp beak and glittering opalescent scales. It makes a musical, hissing sound, shaking its scales as it approaches, snapping dangerously with its wide mouth.

Perhaps it would be safer to retreat into the ruins, despite the ominous sounds coming from there…

Does your character take the risk?

prompt four: desperate measures

Four weeks after the horn was sounded, the warnings about the poisoned river water are still in effect. News about the monsters hiding in the ruins have spread, and concerns are being raised in the nearby communities. Why are these monsters so stubbornly clinging to life, when the two previous ones were so swiftly vanquished?

Those who dare enter the jungle ruins and face the monsters head-on may notice that they are looking somewhat worse for wear; the Serpent’s quick attacks aren’t so fast anymore, and the Bane’s breathing sounds a little more strained. Neither seem intent on moving away from their lair, though…

Perhaps they could be lured out of their hiding spot?
