talk about states

sorry if something like this exists already exists but i didnt see it within the first 6 pages (and im too lazy to go back furhter) and ive never seen it pop up before and im really desperate for human interaction so here we go

but basically um uh yell about the states you live in! or if you dont wanna reveal where you live or just dont live in the US, then um yell about places youve been to or places you used to live or places you know about or just what you know about the states idk literally anything state related except politics because i dont want this to turn into a place of argument but um yea just rant about random things about states because i am really obssessed with US states for some reason!

I went to Colorado last December! I went to a small town in the mountains and the temperature stayed constantly between -5 and 3 degrees F. It was very very cold. It was a really nice little town and I was able to learn how to ski!

As for my state, I won’t say which it is but it’s ok. It only gets down to around 40F in the winter, maybe colder occasionally, and it’s hot as h3ll in the summer, but it’s pretty good. I’ve lived here nearly my whole life and it’s definitely home

WHERE ARE MY OTHER VERMONTERS AT. it's nice and cold in the winter and too hot in the summer, and there's a lot of performative liberals mixed right in with weird hardcore conservative people. there's also a good number of far left people which is where i stand lol

but i love how few people there are here, it means it's easier to avoid crowds! there's no billboards and people are so snooty about real vs fake maple syrup that they bring travel-sized bottles of real vermont maple syrup with them when they travel.

tldr ; lots of trees. no people. 10/10 would recommend for introvert creatives who spend most of their time on the internet

Okay so I went to Iowa last summer and like- why is everything corn themed, there was,,,, so much,,,,,,,,,c o r n

Also why do Kum and Go's exist, that is such an awful name for a gas station and we don't have them in my state and I s2g the first time I saw one I was like "...hUH????" ...Otherwise a nice state lmao

I gave a general area, but importantly I'm far enough from Lake Michigan and Lake Superior (and additionally on the better side of the other three Great Lakes, as Michigan tends to be) to not get lake-effect weather. We get bad storms sure (sleet or hail, power-killing wind, and a little bit of flooding which is a recent issue not terribly far from me), and the occasional frostbitten winter, and like a week of actually dangerous hot weather sometimes. But I'd sure as heck rather be here than on the ocean coastlines with hurricanes, in earthquake valley, tornado plains, or super hot Texas or super frozen Alaska. I have always liked our comparatively mild weather. :,D

I remember that earthquake, kinda. Iirc I was not home for that, and the waves were barely even there at my house anyway. I know it was worse on the other side of the state. But that earthquake was notable for it even happening.

so shocked to see other michiganders in this thread! my fellow "using our hands to indicate where in michigan we're from" people........... i rarely see anyone from michigan online so i always feel an Immediate Kinship with anyone from the state, even though i haven't lived here all my life BAHAHA

but yeah, weather's HORRIBLE. the past month or two have been like trudging through a dante's inferno-esque weather cycle... high winds, heavy rain (hey, we hit flood levels!), snow, miserable heat (90 degrees fahrenheit, woohoo!), everything in between. i'd say things have about evened out now, at least where i am, and the weather's gotten pretty pleasant ^^ i live out in the woods, so the scenery this time of year is always great!

regarding what pepperly said, and as someone who lives close to ann arbor (i often say i live there, just because where i actually live has a grand total of like, four thousand people), i'd agree that it's a great place! it has such a different vibe than the rest of michigan, especially in contrast to the more rural places out by where i live, but i guess that's true of a lot of bigger college cities: it's got the university of michigan, and the campus and town are so closely integrated that they're sort of One Culture. lots of phenomenal restaurants and places to go-- a resident favorite of mine is cherry republic! they're a store that specialize in all things related to cherries, and they've got open samples of nearly all their products.. did i used to go there all the time after getting off the bus just to munch on some cherry BBQ sauce & dried cherries? maybe so. it's really delicious.. but yes, lots to do there! it's really a great city!

Washington is just coffee and rain and I'm vibin' with it

i live in arizona and it's,, very hot and i am so close to just straight up entering cryptobiosis. but there's a lot of neat animals except for scorpions fuck them but it's worth it for the quail and chuckwallas. fatass lizards and birds with funky head feathers make my heart go 💞💓💕 also nice not having a lot of huge storms like there's just dust and rain at the end of summer no blizzards or hurricanes or anything

however there was an earthquake a few years ago, very devastating, a chair fell over

not a WA native but,,

east and west WA is in all, but name, two different states.

Also ik everyone thinks Idaho is the potato state but we actually produce a lot too; not as much but... second place, iirc. idk why i know this lol

Mount rainier is also called the us' most dangerous volcano by several sources, and is still active, so that's... great. Ig it's what you get for being on the ring of fire-

Vilkaloid

kansas is one big fat cornfield, and depending on which tiny town you live in, it's full of cows. or racists. maybe both.

Also!!! Tornados!! Them mfers are always setting off warnings, and then they just don’t show up!!

as an oregonian, the weather here is insanely bipolar. it could be completely clear and sunny for maybe 5 minutes, and the next it could be pouring rain. (no, this isn’t an exaggeration; this happened to me once and it sucked ass.) if you dont like crazy weather i wouldn’t move here lmfao

otherwise, we have trees and stuff which is kinda cool i guess
