✒️ Writers' thread ✒️

Posted 6 years, 10 months ago (Edited 6 years, 8 months ago) by castra

I didn't see a thread like this and figured it'd be nice to have some sort of chillout chat for writers! ; v ;

Talk about your current writing projects, your stories, planning, plotting, whatever as long as it's even vaguely writing related!
Anyone who identifies as a writer is more than welcomed; there is no strict definition for the word or anything!

Here are also some questions to start things off:
✒️ Who are you?
✒️ How long have you been writing?
✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?
✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?
✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?
✒️ Any current writing projects?

And some rules, just to make sure this thread will stay nice for everyone!

✒️ Make sure to be polite and nice to each other
✒️ No vagueposting about other users or people in general; let's keep the negativity in vent threads!
✒️ Don't attack / insult other people's interest / favourite genres etc. Discussion is good and disagreements happen, but attacking and insulting are hardly a respectful way of communication.
✒️ Preferably keep things SFW and black out sensitive / upsetting / NSFW-ish content like this

Welcome BeeBearie~! :D

Hard to believe we're almost 7 days into August (tomorrow is the 7th). Time really flies when your doing stuff. Especially when your doing something that you love! So is anyone writing this month? How about editing?  Any major goals for the month? I'd like to actually finish this draft of Trinity of Worlds, and also start up a new short project that will hopefully get me out of my comfort zone as a writer (writing a genre I'm not used to writing)

Caine

I'll be doing some editing this month! And of course I'll be busy with my other projects too, Sinfonia included - I haven't written anything for it in a while since the demo script is already done, but I really need to step up my game and work on the script of the full version too! I'd also like to write something in Finnish sometime soon, as I do it rarely but my relatives don't understand a word of English :')

HeroofEnelios

Caine Ooh a game huh? That sounds like fun. So does writing in another language, but even though I do know Japanese... not neearly well enough to write a short story in it ono *is intimidated*

Also oops. The "Respond to the Line Above You" thread made me write something completely new, and... I kind of like it *slapped*

It's total fluff and I love every bit of it.

"Hey, Renne!" The sudden voice made the sky haired noble turn on her heel to see Riy striding up to her with a pleasant grin on his face. She was surprised by his sudden appearance, but welcomed it all the same and greeted him with a nod.

"What is it? You seem to be in a rather good mood today." She replied with her hands on her hip. The young knight laughed sheepishly and stopped just a few feet in front of her as they stood by a window on the third floor of Fenrir Palace, one overlooking the land below.

"Of course I am. Those last few jobs I took at the local guild really paid well." He told her eagerly, a strange light in his eyes that made Renne curious. She tilted her head to the side with a wondering smile and folded her hands with a laugh.

"No, I mean even with that. You're unusually upbeat." She shot back and leaned towards him. "I doubt a good payout would be worth that much joy." Her comment made the young knight turn his head and scratch his cheek in a sheepish manner.

"Well, in this case it does." When he felt the noble's probing gaze, Riy continued. "I was able to buy something I've been meaning to for a while now." Renne laughed again, though it was a playful laugh and she lightly tagged her friend on the shoulder.

"I didn't know you had time to browse for such things." She remarked. There was a short pause from Riy, prompting the noble to knit her brows.

"It's not for me actually." Renne stepped back with wide, wondering eyes as she watched the youth reach under his coat and grab hold of something. When he pulled his hand back out, there in his palm lay a pair of small, orb shaped earrings. They were a deep blue in color, a stark contrast to Renne's sky blue hair. The noble was beginning to understand where this was going and she looked back up at Riy with a shocked face. Seeing this, he smiled at her. "They're for you. Happy Birthday, my lady."

"You know you didn't need to do that..." Renne was at a loss for words, and gingerly reached out to touch the jewelry in the boy's hand. She curled her own hand over them and took hold, lifting them before her eyes so she could marvel. Meanwhile, Riy ran a hand through his hair  with a nervous laugh."

"I saw some on your desk the other day, so I just figured-" Before the knight finished talking, Renne had already pulled back her hair and put the earrings on, then twirled once to allow a view of them as her hair flowed with her.

"How do they look?" She asked with a soft laugh. With a satisfied laugh and a slightly flushed face, Riy smiled at the sight and sighed with satisfaction.

"Somehow you look even more regal now." He admitted with a nod. Renne gracefully stopped her spin, allowing her hair to come to a fluttering stop before she leaned forwards ever so slightly.

"You'll always be by my side, right?" Her question alarmed Riy, as it came completely out of nowhere so in a panic he just nodded.

"Of course, I-" The young knight was only able to get a few words out before he was quickly silenced as the sky haired noble covered his mouth with her own in a kiss. Taken by surprise he could do nothing but blush as his heart beat quickened. The pair remained like this for a moment until Renne pulled away and folded her hands behind her back, flashing the youth a warm smile.

"Then that's all I need. Thank you." She then spun on her heel and strode away, humming happily as he hair bounced with each stepped. Watching her go, Riy again ran a hand through his hair and sighed.

"As always, I'm no match for her." As the youth became distant, Renne felt her own cheeks warm and she clutched at her heart.

"As always, I'm no match for him."

HeroofEnelios To be fair Finnish is my native language! English is the one I had to learn from a scratch at school, haha

aaa I'm so glad if my thread can inspire people like this!! I was worried it'd die in a few weeks but it seems to be alive and kicking ; v ;

On unrelated news I'm going home to Lapland next week and I'm so excited about it because I want to use all that sudden free time and lack of proper internet connection on writing this old work I started back in 2014 and have redone since !! I mean I totally should work on other things too but that's kind of my priority, since that place is where I started the project and especially our summer cottage in the middle of nowhere has this perfect Mood to write it.

arbitrarydelight

✒️ Who are you?

arbitrarydelight, but feel free to call me Arbit.

✒️ How long have you been writing?

I've made goofy lil comics and stories since I was a kid, but I've only started writing seriously this year. It's mostly scripting for comics but I've done some short stories as well.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

English is my first language, so it's the one I use to write the most. I can also whip up a decent story in French, but I pretty much only use French for school haha.

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

I like to write stories with supernatural elements as well as a focus on character development and relationships. Bonus points if the protagonists are the bad guys or there's grey morality going on.

Also, strangely enough, I have a habit of sticking a vampire character into all of my stories. It's gotten to the point where there's a vampire in a zombie apocalypse... Eep.

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

No favourites yet! Gotta keep exploring and finding what I like to write before settling down.

✒️ Any current writing projects?

Chet Chase

A planned comic about a police officer working in Purgatory and dealing with the supernatural on a daily basis. He comes across a missing persons case that's connected to his past in ways he'd rather not face. I'm actually considering scrapping this since the whole thing falls apart under scrutiny.

Remortui

Victor wakes up in the middle of a zombie apocalypse with no idea who he is. He ends up finding himself in the middle of a long and complicated plot that involves scientists, government agents, and renegades. I've written some stuff on OC Amino about it, under a different name.

Unnamed

While delivering a package, Jumper finds herself face to face with a crime lord who calls herself Ms. CEO. One thing leads to another, and she finds herself dating the head of their city's underworld. The obstacle to their epic romance comes in the form of Ms. CEO's subordinates, who insist on fighting Jumper to prove her worth. It's a silly romance-crime-action story.

Intermission

A young girl, Kay Darling, gets locked into her high school's theatre overnight and discovers a strange world. It's Alice in Wonderland-esque.

I know it's probably a bit too early for Nano talk just yet, but I'm asking anyway: how many are going to join? Do you already have ideas for your novel/s?

As for me, I have already planned mine in advance and one has had plot summary since... last year, I believe. I'm not super into starting a new thing just for nano so I prefer taking one project and then either continuing it or starting a new. Last year was super successful for me personally so I'm trying to aim for double nano so two novels in one month, haha... Or at least 100k words; I doubt those are enough for two whole novels!

My first novel is Lily 9, a fantasy-scifi story about humans, demons and aliens called koynas on their very first shared space mission! The main reason for this is to see whether all these beings can coexist and peacefully work together, so it's a social experiment for the most part! But they also supervise the space and report & investigate all possible oddities they find there; the space time has just started so there is a lot to be discovered still. There is no spesific protagonist, but there is a woman called Evelyn who joins the ship in order to try to track down her son, who got lost during a tragic space mission years ago; she wants to at least learn what happened to him. Others, after learning about this, all mutually agree to help Evelyn, and soon they learn the anomalies they start encountering might very well be related to the disappearance...

I'm not super good or familiar with scifi so mine is a total mess, and there is totally a werewolf dad on board because I decided so. There are no rules only fun family feels as the space crew gets closer & they bond over their differences and similarities!

My second one still doesn't have a name, but it's this passion project about camping! It's basically about this young mage student Lilja whose graduation mission starts out odd: she has to find people outside of her school to aid her on her mission (usually the mission helpers are fellow graduate students who can also graduate through the shared mission). Lilja, her best friend Francis and their classmate Malcom start a mission all across the country of Agane and it's gonna be ALL about camping fun facts and stuff because I'm a scout and used to camp a lot so!! I'm super passionate about those! And of course they meet new people on their way and try to figure out what is going on, so the general plot isn't anything new or anything; it's a bunch of queer young adults going on a mission to graduate and maybe save something bigger as a result. Mostly it's about camping though. And Lilja's incredible tendency to get into trouble and weird situations no matter where she goes.

✒️ My name is Devin Alese.

✒️ I've been writing since I was 13. I really became interested after I took a summer class for creative writing. Since then, it's been a dream to write a novel and get published

✒️ I write in English. I wish I was talented enough to write in another language.

✒️ I write a lot of poetry but I love having one main project to work on, like a novel.

✒️ Fantasy, adventure and romance are some of my favorite genres to write about.

✒️ I'm currently working on a book called "Fernweh". It's about a work where magic is illegal and people who know magic are being "renewed" or brain washed to forget it but it's having negative affects. It follows Zavier Caldwell who has been Renewed and get caught up in the rebellion of people to stop it. I've been working on it for about six years. After 13 chapters I decided to start over and now I'm back to chapter one from a new perspective and with a more fleshed out world and characters.

HeroofEnelios

Welcome, all newcomers to the thread! :D

Almost through August already?! Time really flies when you keep yourself busy. It's hard to believe it's almost September already o.o
How's the writing been going for everyone? Make any good progress?

I've actually gotten a little distracted and been storyboarding for a short story project. It's been going about as well as you would expect it to xD

Hello! Working on chapter 2 of my book! I gave myself a few options of how I want to get to the next big event but I'm trying to decide what works best. If anyone cares to read chapter one, it's a bulletin on my page. I'm always open to feedback!

tellerby

aaah, this is a cute thread! subbed.

✒️ Who are you?

cyn! 20 years old, headin into my third year of college. i study compsci and math, but storytelling has always been ~~ my passion ~~ and i've never really dropped it over the years, haha.

✒️ How long have you been writing?

ooooh, since elementary school. i still have tooons of english assignments hoarded from way back when ... i started writing stories with my own characters around sixth grade, though the oldest draft i have is something i wrote back in ... 7th grade? it's absolutely horrible. i love it so much.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

english is the only language i know!

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

LORD, do i love writing dialogue! finding a voice for a character is my absolute favorite part of Having 'em in the first place. you can tell so much about a character by the words they use and the way they say them - it's just. it's good, guys! it's so good.

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

modern fantasy is my go-to when i have an idea. i love magic and Fantasy Garbage, but i've fallen too far in love with coffee shop & record store aus to let that all go.

✒️ Any current writing projects?

yup! i rotate the one I'm working on every few months because if I don't i get bored of them. here are the three high concepts im working with currently:

Teller (title pending?) is a ... modern sci-fi (?) ... story told through scientist's personal journal! it chronicles the year of events that follow Aegue, the first alien to make contact with humans, suddenly appearing on earth. The first (of many) drafts is actually like ... half done right now? it's been fun to write since the entire thing is in this scientific and clipped voice at the start, but as the narrator slowly opens up and becomes friends with aegue, it gets more colorful and silly. they made a joke in their last entry! i was so happy to type it!!

Solidarity is a high fantasy story about a mage prodigy who ends up on the run for not committing a murder. I'm plotting it out now, and I think this one is gonna my first attempt at a webcomic?!

Reach for the Stars is a modern fantasy story about four friends with some wacky powers having a good time. Xavier is the protagonist. It's gonna be a comedic / romantic visual novel! I think! I'm still working out like ... ALL the details!!

Caine

Welcome!! Nice to see new faces appearing on this thread too ; v ;
Also, your stories all sound really interesting, you should totally keep us all updated on your process on them!

dearalese

I posted Chapter one of Fernweh to my page along with my some Characters. A friend of mine is drawing them (since I lack the talent) so we have place holders for their appearance. Let me know what you think! Chapter 2 should be done next week, I'm editing it today.
