✒️ Writers' thread ✒️

Posted 6 years, 10 months ago (Edited 6 years, 8 months ago) by castra

I didn't see a thread like this and figured it'd be nice to have some sort of chillout chat for writers! ; v ;

Talk about your current writing projects, your stories, planning, plotting, whatever as long as it's even vaguely writing related!
Anyone who identifies as a writer is more than welcomed; there is no strict definition for the word or anything!

Here are also some questions to start things off:
✒️ Who are you?
✒️ How long have you been writing?
✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?
✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?
✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?
✒️ Any current writing projects?

And some rules, just to make sure this thread will stay nice for everyone!

✒️ Make sure to be polite and nice to each other
✒️ No vagueposting about other users or people in general; let's keep the negativity in vent threads!
✒️ Don't attack / insult other people's interest / favourite genres etc. Discussion is good and disagreements happen, but attacking and insulting are hardly a respectful way of communication.
✒️ Preferably keep things SFW and black out sensitive / upsetting / NSFW-ish content like this

✒️ Who are you?
I'm Sawyer! I'm almost 25 (in almost a month, oh dear) I'm mostly an artist, as I don't currently write enough to consider myself a writer. ;;
✒️ How long have you been writing?
I believe I started writing back when I was twelve, around the glory days of Teen Titans and Avatar: The Last Airbender fan fiction. Heck, I even wrote some Naruto fanfics back in the day. I purged nearly all of my older stuff, but some stuff still lingers... I stopped writing that once I discovered RPing on forum sites like GaiaOnline. There, I started to create characters other than the obvious sel-inserts in my fan fiction lmao. I did that until about 2010...and since then, I haven't really committed myself to writing anything substantial. I've felt the itch, but haven't fully sat down and explored it without getting frustrated. ;;
✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?
English! It's my native language, and I'm not fluent enough in anything else to even attempt.
✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?
I'm a huge sucker for romance, ngl. I'm terrible at writing it, but I love it. I'd probably be glad with writing about characters' interactions with each other, alongside snippets of their past, present and future.
✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?
Right now, I'm really into fantasy. Elves, magic, dragons, all that good stuff....I need More of it. I want to write about fantasy, adventure, romance, sci-fi...I enjoy most genres, I feel.
✒️ Any current writing projects?
Right now, I've been focusing my efforts on writing my characters' profiles, and on creating the worlds they exist in. World-building is something I've always wanted to do, and I plan to incorporate an actual map to go along with my stories. I'd ideally like to write and draw either a webcomic or a visual novel/RPG hybrid game for my main characters' stories.

Waltz I'd be interested in that, however I haven't developed much of anything other than characters and plot ^^;;;

✒️ Who are you?
Just call me Minty~ I'm a 29 year old gal who loves writing, gaming, and generally being creative. When I'm not absorbed in my favorite fandoms and my characters, I work in animal care at a local shelter, and spend plenty of time with my husband as we attempt to be adults and do the adulting thing.

✒️ How long have you been writing?
I've been creating stories and ideas my whole life--I'm pretty sure I always loved pretend games and illustrating epic tales with my stuffed animals, dolls, and other toys. I've also always written creatively for school as I grew up, but I think I started writing my own personal creative ideas seriously when I was about 10 or so. At about 12-13, I really started getting inspired by fanfiction on the newly discovered internet I had access to, and taught myself how to type just so I could work on bringing my own stories to life.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?
English

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?
For the most part, I love writing fiction, especially romance and emotional stories with a healthy dose of action/adventure to keep things exciting. I feel most comfortable working on fanfiction for my favorite fandoms, but I do have original works as well. (Actually, I do best with my own OCs even in fandom settings; I do not write exclusively with canon characters.) I also love RPing, though I rarely get to do it nowadays. If I can't sit down and write a story, I love writing up backstory summaries for all my characters, which might be obvious with some of my profiles here on Toyhouse!

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?
Answered above. For the most part, I have to work with some kind of fantasy setting. Real-life/modern settings are very challenging for me unless there is some fantastical twist mixed in. Otherwise, I'm not all that interested.

✒️ Any current writing projects?
I've recently finished a fanfiction story based in the Marvel Cinematic Universe called Stay With Me, which I'm super proud of and slowly posting online. You can read about it here if you're interested! http://toyhou.se/~bulletins/29044.-stay-with-me-fanfiction-now-posted-

Otherwise, I'm always slowly working on my ongoing Pokemon fanfiction. Current stuff can be found on my ff.net page, while in the meantime I've been working on revamping my entire series plans and coming up with a better gameplan.

Aside from those projects, I've been toying with writing more World of Warcraft stories featuring my myriad of characters, as well as bringing more of my other fandom and original stories to life. Even if it's just short stories or quick drabbles, I want to keep writing with all the ideas and characters I love. ^^

Waltz I'd totally be in! Or how about a writer spesific chat with a channel for game dev talk? Because I feel like a good majority of game devs here also do writing ; v ;!!
But yeah either way I'd totally be in! I'm super intimidated by other game devs as a general thing because I feel like I'm not ~ dev enough ~ because I work on a visual novel and not on something like an RPG, so I tend to shy away from all bigger communities....

HeroofEnelios

We've got a decent number of writers here... hurray! :D

So with that in mind, how exactly is everyone's own writing going? Making any progress? I'm also curious if anyone would be interested in sharing work and getting feedback/opinions.

Caine

HeroofEnelios I feel like my stuff is generally coming along pretty well right now! I have been writing a lot lately and I'll probably get to finish my novella in camp nano's July camp next month! I have like 2023 other small projects going on too but it's way easier if I don't go too deep into the detail, it'd be boring lmao.

I'm generally like... super shy about my writing because I'm not a native speaker + started not too long ago and I always feel like I bother my friends with my written content q u q But I'm honestly super into like opinion/feedback exchanges or just super chill "read mine and I'll read yours and then say how I felt about it" kind of deals. I'm just bad with long amounts of text at once due to a migraine, but especially with oneshots and short stories it's a perfect deal if you ask me, haha

HeroofEnelios

castra I'm debating on whether I want to do July's Camp NaNo this year. I've done every NaNo writing month since 2013, so I've been writing a lot lately. I have a lot of catch up to do with my main series, since I'm so behind ono

I get that! For me since I have the intent to publish, I have to get over that nervousness of sharing works. It's not such a big deal for me now, but it was super tough a few years ago. I used to post old works over on FictionPress when I was a freshman in high school, but it was reaaally hard to get feedback. That's why I'm super grateful for the writer community on Twitter ;w;

I like long text, but also read shorter works. Longer works are nice when I have nothing important to do and I just want to relax ^_^

On that note, migraines suck. I can deal with mild headaches, but migraines are impossible to ignore. >.>

Caine

HeroofEnelios I really lament the fact I didn't start uploading my stuff sooner, honestly. I got into the habit of posting art online since I was like 12 so with the child's fearlessness I managed to get myself used to that, and now as an adult doing the same with writing feels terrifying sometimes :') I want to get more involved with writers too as I'm predominantly in artist circles, but I feel pretty intimidated + I feel like the writer mindset is often super different from artists, for some reason? I feel like I enter a whole new WORLD when I try to get into writer only -spaces.

I used to read so so much as a kid but yeah migraines have really limited my life in that way, and unfortunately this is like the least of my worries when it comes to dealing with a really bad migraine :/ Also, the meds are incredibly expensive.

HeroofEnelios

castra I suppose you do feel a little fearless as a child at that age ehehe ^_^;; Suppose in that way, it's a good thing since you were able to post your art online.

Yeah it is different, but a writer's mindset and an artist's can be similar. Writer only spaces aren't bad that. I've only ever felt encouraged by the many writers, and authors that I've met. It's pretty great :D I suppose the other reason is that writers aren't afraid to express how weird/odd they can be sometimes. Like how we hoard books.

I thankfully don't get migraines, or headaches for that matter that often anymore unless I stay up very late working on the computer.

aska-ray

Waltz omg i just saw this but YES that would be really cool, and I'd join <3

Caine

gently bumps this back up

HeroofEnelios

I think people are busy ;w;

Meanwhile here I am with some free time now that I'm caught up on artwork. I think today is a writing day. I think I'll go for 4k words by midnight...

Caine

I'm ITCHING to write and I have multiple ideas I want to write down (and for once they're all for the same work too!) but I have to work on art stuff + a friend is coming over for the weekend so I won't be able to write... rip
