✒️ Who are you?
hello ^^
i'm merf! i'm a college student currently in the process of transferring schools to start majoring in creative writing (and also musical theatre)
✒️ How long have you been writing?
i started writing when i was around 10 or 11, and i actually got my start w self insert fairy tail fanfics on quotev and asterisk roleplaying online. i'm glad for those days and i had a lot of fun w them, but also i'd like to hope i've come a long way in these 9-10 years :')
✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?
it'd be neat to confidently (and competently) be able to write in multiple languages one day, but for now i'm only confident writing in english
✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?
while i originally started out w fanfiction, at this point i pretty much exclusively write for my own characters. they're all my silly little guys and if i want them to have stories out there i kinda have to be the one to make them (at least at first). most of the time i write short stories and drabbles since i have a better chance at finishing those than anything longform, but also the few longform stories i do have are the stories i end up thinking about the most
i'm also really big on character focused writing! i love exploring my characters' relationships w each other and their worlds for better and for worse in my works. sometimes i'll even just write little journal entries from their perspectives for fun
✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?
the genres i write in vary a whole lot!
when it comes to my longform stories, the settings are split 1:1 w modern cities and fantasy worlds (one more traditional high fantasy and the other more malicious fairytale for lack of a better descriptor), and when it comes to short stories and drabbles it'll really just be whatever pops into mind or fits my characters best. i usually write in more modern settings just bc it calls for less world building though
for actual actual genres and not settings, i find that while i really can't pinpoint a primary genre that i gravitate to most, almost everything i write can fit into drama. romance too if you squint. they're hardly ever the primary genres, but bc i end up putting a lot of focus on character relationships they pop up a lot anyway
✒️ Any current writing projects?
looking at my list of unintentionally paused stories and looking away .
i'm So guilty of starting one thing, focusing on it for a bit, and then getting distracted by smth else before i can finish it :')
there are many stories i've just fully abandoned for another one fjsdhf it's literally why i try to stick to short stories and drabbles now orz
for the sake of not making this longer, i'm just gonna give a few of my longform ones <3
unnamed vigilante story
this story has been in my mind for maybe six or seven years now??? it's been a work in progress for ages and it's changed a whole lot in that time
currently, it's a vigilante story w evan and solaris (he doesn't have a profile yet) as the main characters
it focuses on solaris as he goes through life as a high school student and vigilante, balancing homework and illegal crime fighting. for a while everything is fine and fun! he manages a good balance between the two, and doesn't really take his vigilante work seriously?? bcwhile technically he's a vigilante, he only fights one person (who desperately needs a different alias) and they're about the same age. plus, the person he's fighting is kinda harmless actually?? he's kinda really pathetic and it's endearing for a bit until his vigilante partner is (accidentally but solaris doesn't know that) killed
from that point onward the story continues to focus on solaris as he continues to manage both his school life and vigilante life while not being able to really talk to anyone about it wo outing himself as a vigilante
it's my most self indulgent work and also probably my least polished??? i think about evan a lot more than solaris even though hes the antagonist actually which isn't great for advancing the plot
i say i write for this one but really it just floats in my mind and occasionally i'll jot down some notes ?? but it mostly just exists in my mind
scilloideae
scilloideae is an interactive story w a genre that's sorta up to the individual reader ??? it's kinda just a choose your adventure book so it's gonna change based on your choices
but in my mind it's a story that looks into how much people can change over time and how their surroundings can shape them <3
i haven't thought about genres much but at it's core i guess it's a spy drama?? and if you ignore the main plotline entirely it's about auster and briar (neither of them have profiles set up yet) and their relationship
unfortunately i haven't had access to a computer i can reliably use twine on wo risking losing everything since last i checked there isn't a cloud ??? so most development for the actual story has been put on hold :(
in the mean time though i've been developing both groups' leaders and their shared history. they have so few memories from before they met and their lives revolve around each other and they should not be put in the same room as each other. they also mean everything to me (i've written thousands of words for the two of them and only a teeny tiny handful of them are canon orz )
wonderland
wonderland is a bit of a love letter to alice in wonderland and all the stories inspired by it that i've grown to love over the years (especially heart no kuni no alice) ^^
it's a major major work in progress since i'm building the world pretty much from the ground up (w a few exceptions here and there) ???? but welcome to wonderland is an rpg in progress, and depending on how you play it, it can be either a mystery drama or an otome. it can be all three even if you want it to be :3
the main character wakes up one morning in wonderland, a world they've never before seen or heard of beyond books. while there, they can talk to all the characters in wonderland and learn more about the world and its history. each region has it's own secrets to uncover, and some characters are hiding more than they let on
it's really silly and self indulgent in certain places ???? like instead of having a functioning mail system the world relies on snail mail from actual giant snails and also there are steampunk mechs ???? but also a lot of time has gone into planning for when i get rpg maker (or learn to code a game from scratch) and can start working on it for real beyond just world building
unnamed fantasy
sometimes you look at a story you wrote when you were twelve and start to miss it??? so you dust it off and rework some things and go off of the plot you came up w for a school assignment eight years ago
i'm unfortunately too busy to really fully take part in nanowrimo this year?? but if i could i'd do it w this
i've changed it a lot since middle school (mostly bc i don't remember where it was going before it stopped and also bc a lot of it was just kinda not well thought out ?? also my literary interests are different now and while it's neat if other people like what i write, i just write for myself) ?? but updated, it focuses on saffron, urian, and mace (names very likely to change) as they're tasked w getting rid of malicious fae spirits in the woods
the three of them don't really get along super well ???? like they shouldn't have been sent out together. the only reason they specifically get chosen is bc they grew up alongside each other and know each other the best
i haven't really decided where it's gonna go yet ???? but they do have an end goal (get rid of the spirits) and i have a lot that i can do w their backgrounds and i've been having fun w it :3
