✒️ Writers' thread ✒️

Posted 6 years, 10 months ago (Edited 6 years, 7 months ago) by castra

I didn't see a thread like this and figured it'd be nice to have some sort of chillout chat for writers! ; v ;

Talk about your current writing projects, your stories, planning, plotting, whatever as long as it's even vaguely writing related!
Anyone who identifies as a writer is more than welcomed; there is no strict definition for the word or anything!

Here are also some questions to start things off:
✒️ Who are you?
✒️ How long have you been writing?
✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?
✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?
✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?
✒️ Any current writing projects?

And some rules, just to make sure this thread will stay nice for everyone!

✒️ Make sure to be polite and nice to each other
✒️ No vagueposting about other users or people in general; let's keep the negativity in vent threads!
✒️ Don't attack / insult other people's interest / favourite genres etc. Discussion is good and disagreements happen, but attacking and insulting are hardly a respectful way of communication.
✒️ Preferably keep things SFW and black out sensitive / upsetting / NSFW-ish content like this

Here are also some questions to start things off:

✒️ Who are you?

I am CannibleFlower, or Cleah for short.

✒️ How long have you been writing?

I actually just started, maybe since like 2020, after I was told I was rather good at it. I've had an interest in it for a while because I wanted to give some life to what I say and my characters.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing? English is my first language, although I'm in the process of learning French.

✒️ What kinds of things do you write/enjoy writing? I like writing factual stuff to help others learn or character writing in all matters, although fanfaction is something that I've enjoyed reading, so I've definitely taken an interest in writing it as of late

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories? action, romance, horror, and, of course, thrillers.

✒️ Any current writing projects? Yes, I have two written choose your own adventure stories and some beastars-style writing with some of my own characters.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

✒️ Any current writing projects?

✒️ What kind of site / sites do you use to upload your stories? Alternatively do you have a preferred site for reading user-submitted stories?

Yangwolfsw

✒️ Who are you?

-My username is Yangwolfsw, but I get called Yang for short. I’m a 22 year old female.

Looking for some writing friends and to put myself out there more.

✒️ How long have you been writing?

-I first started writing in middle school: a story about cats going on an adventure and battling a dog kingdom(?). From there I branched off into some more “serious” writing. Ever since I’ve enjoyed writing and I like to think it’s one of the few things I’m good at. I’ve been featured in anthologies, won a few contests on Wattpad, in which I won a laptop with one such contest. But, my writing doesn’t get much attention so I feel I’m lacking somewhere but can’t figure out where.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

-English, that’s all I know unfortunately. Would love to be able to write in Japanese— bit of an anime nerd and I’d like to create a popular light novel so it might accept better in say Japan, China or Korea.

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

-I’ll write a little bit of everything and whatever suits my fancy at that moment in time. I tend to focus on horror and fantasy (Steven King is my idol!). I can also write using animal characters or human characters. Romance is not my favorite, but my friends have said I can write some pretty sultry things. I’ve even wrote a bit of BL as well haha.

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

-I have to say my horror and fantasy. It’s really when my creative juices start flowing. While I have some treasured pieces with human characters, stories with my animal characters is where I feel I can get really passionate and I’m most interested.

✒️ Any current writing projects?

-I have several finished and several unfinished. As of now I’m enjoying writing short stories pertaining to the lives of my animal characters which is on TH (I like world building as well). I would like to create a popular light novel pertaining to my two canine sonas and their adventures - Naglensian (title for now). But, I’m also almost finished working on a fantasy novel with human characters I’d like to publish and if it did well it would be a three book series - The Crowned Paupers. It’s on chapter 25 and it was on 30 but I lost some material so back to chapter 25 T-T

I have finished a ton of things finished that are short stories: Seven Sins Committed, Doll Face, Alice Rabbits, The Revelation, From the Fog…

Also have an anthology series for my anime characters:

I also have two unfinished potential novels: Defectives and The Whispers

I figured I’ll transfer most of these pieces to my Toyhouse, so keep an eye out for them if interested?!

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing? Narratives and Poems

Byunnii

✒️ Who are you? - Helloo I go by Byunnii or Blanche on the internet, I go by she/they pronouns and I'm 17 year old student!

✒️ How long have you been writing? - Not really sure of the exact time I started writing but it was around 3rd grade when I started writing short stories for my ocs.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing? - I prefer writing in English, since I find it easier despite it not being my native language. I occasionally write in Finnish too, but only when necessary because it's honestly a hard language to write in. On top of that I've been thinking of writing/translating my stories in French so my relatives could read them too!

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing? - I really enjoy writing and coming up with lore for my ocs!

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories? - Fantasy, mystery and drama! A bit of romance too, even though my romance stories somehow end up in tragedy 💀

✒️ Any current writing projects? - I am currently writing my first novel called Thousand Fates: Book I - Cyrus, it's a fantasy novel following the adventures of an amnesiac half-deer Cyrus who's trying to recover their memories. The novel will have five books, so I'm also planning the others alongside side stories for other characters. I currently post all of my novels on

vanillaflavouroddish

-Hello, I'm oddish!! (she/her)

-I've been writing pretty much all my life haha,, it's always been an interest of mine to pick apart characters and storytelling tropes. I remember as a kid I used to write stories in the notes app.

-i usually write in english but sometimes I write in irish too since we have to do irish as a subject at school here in ireland !!

-i love writing stories with highly developed characters,, I love writing vague traits that can be put together to make one well established character. Ive always loved psychological horror and adventure!!

-i adore horror!!!! but I keep it as a vague undertone in most of my stories,, it's always the plot and characterization first and then the spooky stuff after

-this is the whole reason I got toyhouse,,

I'm an aspiring writer and trying to write a novel named Outcasts (characters and brief plot summary are on my profile) and it really means a lot to me as I've put so much love into it!! I feel like my characters are pretty fleshed out and it would mean the entire world to me if anybody could even read my character profiles!

the entire reason I got toyhouse was to hopefully build some hype around outcasts :(( (there's more on my social media accounts ooo I'm meaning to get into animation again so I can animate more outcasts stuff)

so if anybody's seeing this it would help me out tremendously if anybody could even take a little peek at my characters <3

merf

✒️ Who are you?

hello ^^
i'm merf! i'm a college student currently in the process of transferring schools to start majoring in creative writing (and also musical theatre)

✒️ How long have you been writing?

i started writing when i was around 10 or 11, and i actually got my start w self insert fairy tail fanfics on quotev and asterisk roleplaying online. i'm glad for those days and i had a lot of fun w them, but also i'd like to hope i've come a long way in these 9-10 years :')

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

it'd be neat to confidently (and competently) be able to write in multiple languages one day, but for now i'm only confident writing in english

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

while i originally started out w fanfiction, at this point i pretty much exclusively write for my own characters. they're all my silly little guys and if i want them to have stories out there i kinda have to be the one to make them (at least at first). most of the time i write short stories and drabbles since i have a better chance at finishing those than anything longform, but also the few longform stories i do have are the stories i end up thinking about the most

i'm also really big on character focused writing! i love exploring my characters' relationships w each other and their worlds for better and for worse in my works. sometimes i'll even just write little journal entries from their perspectives for fun

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

the genres i write in vary a whole lot!
when it comes to my longform stories, the settings are split 1:1 w modern cities and fantasy worlds (one more traditional high fantasy and the other more malicious fairytale for lack of a better descriptor), and when it comes to short stories and drabbles it'll really just be whatever pops into mind or fits my characters best. i usually write in more modern settings just bc it calls for less world building though

for actual actual genres and not settings, i find that while i really can't pinpoint a primary genre that i gravitate to most, almost everything i write can fit into drama. romance too if you squint. they're hardly ever the primary genres, but bc i end up putting a lot of focus on character relationships they pop up a lot anyway

✒️ Any current writing projects?

looking at my list of unintentionally paused stories and looking away .
i'm So guilty of starting one thing, focusing on it for a bit, and then getting distracted by smth else before i can finish it :')

there are many stories i've just fully abandoned for another one fjsdhf it's literally why i try to stick to short stories and drabbles now orz

for the sake of not making this longer, i'm just gonna give a few of my longform ones <3

unnamed vigilante story

this story has been in my mind for maybe six or seven years now??? it's been a work in progress for ages and it's changed a whole lot in that time
currently, it's a vigilante story w evan and solaris (he doesn't have a profile yet) as the main characters

it focuses on solaris as he goes through life as a high school student and vigilante, balancing homework and illegal crime fighting. for a while everything is fine and fun! he manages a good balance between the two, and doesn't really take his vigilante work seriously?? bcwhile technically he's a vigilante, he only fights one person (who desperately needs a different alias) and they're about the same age. plus, the person he's fighting is kinda harmless actually?? he's kinda really pathetic and it's endearing for a bit until his vigilante partner is (accidentally but solaris doesn't know that) killed

from that point onward the story continues to focus on solaris as he continues to manage both his school life and vigilante life while not being able to really talk to anyone about it wo outing himself as a vigilante

it's my most self indulgent work and also probably my least polished??? i think about evan a lot more than solaris even though hes the antagonist actually which isn't great for advancing the plot

i say i write for this one but really it just floats in my mind and occasionally i'll jot down some notes ?? but it mostly just exists in my mind

scilloideae

scilloideae is an interactive story w a genre that's sorta up to the individual reader ??? it's kinda just a choose your adventure book so it's gonna change based on your choices
but in my mind it's a story that looks into how much people can change over time and how their surroundings can shape them <3

i haven't thought about genres much but at it's core i guess it's a spy drama?? and if you ignore the main plotline entirely it's about auster and briar (neither of them have profiles set up yet) and their relationship

unfortunately i haven't had access to a computer i can reliably use twine on wo risking losing everything since last i checked there isn't a cloud ??? so most development for the actual story has been put on hold :(
in the mean time though i've been developing both groups' leaders and their shared history. they have so few memories from before they met and their lives revolve around each other and they should not be put in the same room as each other. they also mean everything to me (i've written thousands of words for the two of them and only a teeny tiny handful of them are canon orz )

wonderland

wonderland is a bit of a love letter to alice in wonderland and all the stories inspired by it that i've grown to love over the years (especially heart no kuni no alice) ^^
it's a major major work in progress since i'm building the world pretty much from the ground up (w a few exceptions here and there) ???? but welcome to wonderland is an rpg in progress, and depending on how you play it, it can be either a mystery drama or an otome. it can be all three even if you want it to be :3

the main character wakes up one morning in wonderland, a world they've never before seen or heard of beyond books. while there, they can talk to all the characters in wonderland and learn more about the world and its history. each region has it's own secrets to uncover, and some characters are hiding more than they let on

it's really silly and self indulgent in certain places ???? like instead of having a functioning mail system the world relies on snail mail from actual giant snails and also there are steampunk mechs ???? but also a lot of time has gone into planning for when i get rpg maker (or learn to code a game from scratch) and can start working on it for real beyond just world building

unnamed fantasy

sometimes you look at a story you wrote when you were twelve and start to miss it??? so you dust it off and rework some things and go off of the plot you came up w for a school assignment eight years ago
i'm unfortunately too busy to really fully take part in nanowrimo this year?? but if i could i'd do it w this

i've changed it a lot since middle school (mostly bc i don't remember where it was going before it stopped and also bc a lot of it was just kinda not well thought out ?? also my literary interests are different now and while it's neat if other people like what i write, i just write for myself) ?? but updated, it focuses on saffron, urian, and mace (names very likely to change) as they're tasked w getting rid of malicious fae spirits in the woods

the three of them don't really get along super well ???? like they shouldn't have been sent out together. the only reason they specifically get chosen is bc they grew up alongside each other and know each other the best

i haven't really decided where it's gonna go yet ???? but they do have an end goal (get rid of the spirits) and i have a lot that i can do w their backgrounds and i've been having fun w it :3

CaptainRobi

✒️ Who are you?

I'm Robbie but I commonly go by Robi or CaptainRobi

✒️ How long have you been writing?

Quite a while now... i've been transpired by games and their plots and have been spinning fanfictions for life. lmao

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

Mostly English

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

Mostly stories that fill in plot holes in the plots spun out by games, most of which is Final Fantasy IX. I've been engrossed in the story but some of the elements are so rich in holes. I can't even.

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

Mostly sci-fi, fantasy and steampunk.

✒️ Any current writing projects?

So far, I'm working on this. I had so many ideas shoved in and torn out from it... because either it wasn't fitting or it was some stupid lame short-term idea but this is my latest work.

Fanfiction woo-!

sashibemii

✒️ Who are you?

hi!! i go by shibe or miss shibe online, i'm a 17 y/o artist and writer from the philippines ^^

✒️ How long have you been writing?

i've been writing since i was in 5th grade! aka around 7 years now... my first works were of kpop fanfictions (which is very strange now since it involves real people   ) now i only write original stories revolving around my characters!!

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

english! it is what i am used to when writing. writing in filipino is difficult for me, but hopefully i can try it out someday

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

i enjoy writing stories for my own characters! it is fun to imagine them coming to life through writing... i have also written some fanfictions for my friend's OCs, and i would like to try writing more of those (shhhh don't tell them HAHA) i also really enjoy writing dialogue and character interactions!

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

i like writing slice-of-life mini stories of my OCs! aside from that, i also enjoy writing romance (specifically fluff) and comedy (not that i can say i am actually funny   ) basically i love lighthearted content that tells of normal people's daily lives. i find these easier and more fun to write! however, one day i would like to try writing drama... i have attempted before, but it all felt so emo and try hard

✒️ Any current writing projects?

currently i have my OC story collection! i also have 2 other OC stories that involve specific characters, but one is not my priority right now and the other i have to rewrite as the content is very outdated

VictoryDrawsStuff

✒️ Who are you?

I am Victory, a weird anime artist who also is dabbling more into writing these days! She/They/Xe pronouns, and I am trying to be a better writer as I am an artist as well!

✒️ How long have you been writing?

I suppose the same time as I began developing characters, so about a few years. However, I only recently began to take writing as seriously as I take my visual art, so about 2-3 years of doing that.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

English, the only language I can read and write in-

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

I mostly write OC bios (the sole reason why I take writing more seriously) , story stuff such as events and interactions, but sometimes I like to write headcanons for others OCS, a favorite thing I love to do.

Fanfics as well, not the typical fanfic one might think of but it’s more like me writing out my fanseries as well as drawing it since it’s going to be a webcomic. Speaking of webcomics, I think maybe it’s script writing that I have done the most time for-

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

I love fantasy, historical fiction, drama, comedy, but most emphasis on historical fiction and fantasy; the two favorite genres of mine that I always enjoy to read and write about.

✒️ Any current writing projects?

I am currently working on my fanseries , Past Blazes Future Path a fanmade (self indulgent and passion project) series for the game “The Great Ace Attorney” !

While it’s in webcomic form and the art will be important and something I emphasize on, I am also honing my writing skills with it!
