This is the thread for general pet peeves. I don't mean character ones or fandom pet peeves, I mean random, not specific to anything pet peeves.

I get really peeved with how people treat my job and that I can't talk about it like a normal job tbh?

It's really nice that you're supportive BUT please don't go round treating me like a toddler showing you a drawing they just did. It's super patronizing, degrading and annoying.

On the flip side, sometimes people assume I'm showing off when I try to join in a conversation about work just because I work on ships. Admittedly I am not the best with wording and that probably hasn't helped me in the past but now I'm aware that probably factors into people perceiving me as showing off when work is brought up I am trying to be more careful with wording.

You can imagine how fun it is when I get someone being patronizing trying to get me to tell someone who thinks I'm showing off about work lol.

It also gets really tiring having to answer the same questions (my record is the same Q and A 30 times in a week).

Don't get me wrong I do enjoy my job (despite my odd grumbles when I'm on a work rotation), I enjoy the travel (which is usually what people get super patronizing over) and I'm also very grateful to be where I am but sometimes it'd just be nice to be able to talk about my job as if it was a 9-5 Average Joe job and without having to answer 20 Questions ya know?

Sometimes it makes me feel like I'm not allowed to talk about work stuff even if the conversation is on work, other times if I know someone's gonna be super patronizing or ask 20 Questions it just makes me not wanna talk about work.

Edit: Dang what a page topper lol.

this peeve happened to me last night, and it drove me insane;

people sitting directly behind you and talking during a movie. the person i was with had to turn around and tell the folks behind us to be quieter numerous times since both of us were getting agitated at how we couldn't pay attention due to the useless chatter.

i understand being invested in a movie and wanting to whisper to those you're with about it, but they were at generic speaking level asking really obvious stuff like "did she get hurt?" or "what happened to them?" i dunno, maybe if you stopped talking you could hear what the hell is happening.

the kid behind me also kicked my seat a few times, so i had to turn around and tell him to.. not. if your kids aren't old enough to understand that kicking seats in front of them is rude and can possibly hurt the person seated, they don't get to out to these places as a reward.

^ This!

Also I have a feeling I mentioned this in the old thread but silent treatment as a punishment really gets on my nerves. I am very blunt and direct, I value honesty so I expect people to be likewise with me. I need to know where I stand with people but I do not take hints and need to be directly told when/if there's a problem. I totally get needing time to cool down before you try to resolve the issue but I hate the whole "I'm not talking to you because you should know what you did wrong" mentality because tbh I probably don't know what I did to upset you if you're not gonna tell me?

A good example is in the beginning of my last Summer contract I had my watch set by the office's clock because I knew the pool clocks have a tendency to run very slow and aren't always altered to match timezone changes (we can be going through several timezones a few times a week) but the rest of the group had their watches set to the pool clocks and had assumed mine was set to the pool clocks too. The office clock was 5 mins faster than the pool clocks so for them I was always coming back from break 5 mins late even though I thought I was on time. As punishment they'd push me out of the group and give me the silent treatment. I could tell they were frustrated with me but no one wanted to tell me why so I had no idea what the issue was until 2-3 weeks later where the senior finally decided to tell me he'd report it if it carried on. Funnily enough as soon as I found out what the issue was I set my watch to theirs and it stopped happening and the group was much happier. A little communication goes a long way.

On another topic, one of my pet peeve is people taking jokes, even everything seriously. Like, hey man, take some chill pill and have a bit of fun. It's not even an offensive joke :/
