commision pet peeves?

Posted 5 years, 1 month ago (Edited 2 years, 3 months ago) by Mochi

sorry to add to the string of pet peeve threads OTL. i just thought this would be a good place for people who buy commissions and who sell commissions to vent their frustrations. ill go first to break the ice.

when artists make you pay through friends and family, its soooo sketch. also when artist say theyll have your stuff done in one week...and never get back to you or do it way after a week. like its happened so many times and i feel like its a 'give me five minutes' type of thing. like just give me your real time frame, no need got give yourself a week if you know its not going to happen.

you all have very valid points! im going to add another complaint of mine since no one has said it yet.

when people whitewash my ocs. sidif thats the main thing that annoys me. like their skin color is very clear in the ref, why make their skin lighter?

edit: nvm someone already said it lol

new rules: please dont be transphobic or racist, i cant believe i have to say this but seriously, what the heck

Why do I pay a bigger artist to sketch my character and then they leave off the one detail I told them not to forget.

I’m especially frustrated since I paid way more than I usually do for a sketch and the artist is doing a medical treatment so if I ask to change it I feel like a total jerk.

Super pet peeve when an artist insists on leaving their big (more than 2 lines of text) watermark on a art piece I paid for. Like I can’t even get an unwatermarked version?? Which relatively I’d be fine with but the fact that it was a bust commission and they were gonna have a watermark of 3-4 lines of text in the left or right center (not even the corner of the comm!!??) is what ticked me off. I buy bust commissions to decorate my characters profile. Why would I want your big/in-the-way watermark to ruin that???

EDIT: I am totally fine if an artist wants to leave their watermark on all art pieces!! But this persons watermark was ridiculously big and not even subtle. Just bam, front and center and completely would have ruined the art for me

^ 200% agree on this. I understand if artists want only watermarked images used publicly. But if they don't offer a watermark free version at all with a very aggressive/big one, I just don't get it. Normal ones at the side , which aren't bothering are no big deal. I don't care. But I can barely enjoy the piece of art I bought with a huge a$$ text/image watermark on top.

I really don't understand why people get so mad when they're asked to pay for paypal fees. As a buyer you're ALWAYS paying for the fees. They're either already included on the price or they are added as an extra charge.

inb4 it's against paypal terms - There are other things that are also against paypal terms that are completely accepted common practice, and I never see people call sellers 'shady' for doing them. It's almost like people don't actually give a shit about paypal's rules, they just get irrationally angry when they're told to pay $2 more for their $50 commission and want an excuse to complain :'D

LemonBear

Nifffi sorry for the ping!! But I think it’s more about buyers not wanting to get scammed. Because if a buyer lists it as ‘friends and family’ then there is no possible way for the buyer to get their money back if the seller decides to screw them over or takes way too long on a commission. Also sellers control the price so if they hate the fee then they should just bump up their prices a tiny bit.

Nifffi

LemonBear I didn't say anything about using friends & family, that's obviously understandable if people don't wanna pay with that and complain all they want. I was talking exclusively about the paypal fee being charged separately - ie when the price listing says 'paypal fees not included', 'buyer covers the paypal fee' or something like that.

>Also sellers control the price so if they hate the fee then they should just bump up their prices a tiny bit.

Yeah I know, I just think that the fact that the complaint exists at all is really stupid because it literally changes nothing for the buyer. You're either paying $52 or you're paying $50 + $2. It also really grinds my gears when people immediately take it as a sign of shadiness because it's 'against paypal terms' like there aren't other things that are also against paypal terms and no one ever seems to have an issue with those.

LemonBear

Yeah it’s only shady if the seller is asking the buyer to send it as friends/family.

Honestly why would sellers advertise that the buyer has to cover the fee?? I feel like that’s what’s causing the drama there. They should just simply point it out as a bump in price to accommodate PayPal fees or simply just a bump in their commissions pricing. But yeah as long as I don’t have to send it as friends and family then I wouldnt mind paying a tiny bit extra.

Lemonylulu

People just don't like extra fees they don't expect. Like... about literally anything. Everybody gets crabby when they're told the price of a thing and then get the "but WAIT. There's MORE!" It's the same logic as,

$10 +$2 shipping : (
$12 free shipping : )

Minds just... work that way, aha. You should be baking the fee into the cost of your overall price tag anyway because it is against Paypal TOS. ... Like, yeah. People break the TOS all the time---but idk why you'd openly be advertising this and risking getting shut down in the first place. It's all fun and games and we all break the rules until one bad apple comes along and gets pissy for some reason and decides to take advantage. Just keep the fact the fee is part of the price you're charging on the DL, and nobody will even know and Paypal will be happy.

It's one thing if everyone is just. Breaking rules and circumventing things in silence. It's another when someone is openly waving around "I'm breaking the rules, and we're all doing this anyway!!" because if the higher ups figure out how people are circumventing said rules, they'll find a way to tighten them further.

when you commission someone for a drawing and they just present to you with the finished product without you giving the OK on the sketch. its like..... whuh..... hello???

Sorry for the ping! But I LITERALLY just had this happen to me not to long ago. Months with no update and me poking them a few times with no response and then..."Here you go! Let me know when you saved it!"

Kelina1080

kuzusouda Gosh THIS, i JUST recently did this twice within this whole month with two separate artists! Like I absolutely do not mind waiting at all theres no problem there but it becomes one when weeks then turn into months with like 0 updates/communication. Ofc anyones anxiety would spike up from that like you already start thinking "oh gosh am i getting scammed??", absolutely worst feeling in the world and even worse when you have to give them a poke for updates...like pls i paid you for your incredible work..it shouldn't even taken you five minutes to get back to me with an update or so!
