I can't believe I haven't seen this thread before, honestly!
A lot of us have associated theme songs or playlists for our characters, relationships, or stories-- show off your favorites here!
How do you choose songs? Do you pick songs whose lyrics fit the character, songs the character might listen to, songs whose feel reminds you of them-- or other reasons? I'd love to hear your thought process!

LOSES IT GOES CRAZY I LOVE PLAYLISTS... right here is calliopes bc shes my main rn, but i also have some for all my dnd characters fsjdkfjds. there are Many different reasons i pick songs whether i just think the overall vibe sounds nice or it relates to a part of their stories or anything :0!! i have a like. unfinished kind of very bad listening guide for it that explains some vibes :] calliopes is also not done but JKDSFJ
I have a set playlist for Aspen, "cat nap", and I plan to burn a CD of it.
I have a separate "bonus" playlist where I'm constantly adding more songs that remind me of her. I try to go for songs that feel like they fit the character, but are also something they would listen to.

I have a few others I'm working on, but they aren't quite ready to show off yet and I still need to make their covers.
My fave bastard Jack has his own little personalized playlist that focuses on how he feels for the most part. His vibes.

Jack used to be a human before his forceful conversion to a Shadow Demon by the God, Shadow. His human-self was very loving and emotional, something that became more uncontrolled after being tortured by Shadow for 2 years to create the perfect weapon.
I chose songs that captured this, chaotic, messy, flips randomly. But also kept songs that represent his feelings of hopelessness and how he straight up wishes he could just die. As he is forced to kill what used to be his own kind, he is riddled with guilt and self-loathing. He rips himself apart for relief from his misery. He chooses to not think about his existence too deeply. Jack forces himself to think of himself as an object, a puppet to be used and commanded. He thinks so little of himself that he wants to be actively used by others for their pleasures, like a mindless sex doll. He's twisted his mind to turn physical pain into pleasure, so really he just wants to be abused into nothingness. He just doesn't want to think, drowning out his mind with noise and splitting his skin open. That's what his playlist represents. Pure insanity. Unfiltered misery.
As a sidenote, my fave song in here is Hollywood Endings by Jack Conte. I think it captures the feeling of emptiness, trying to fill that void with pleasure, and the dizzying decay that is Jacks mind :3
Here is Sotiris' playlist, Mostly goth. I haven't added any greek crust punk though since Sotiris' profile mentions he has some favorite greek crust punk bands.

The music featured is mostly metal-based, since it's my favorite type of music and it also fits with his looks and personality. Lots of aggressive songs, screaming, anger, angst, and edge. Songs that really just give you the feeling of wanting to have it playing on blast while you rampage through nameless goons or on a mission to avenge someone dear to you, full of rage! There are a few tracks littered in it that aren't as heavy or angsty, but they're small breaks just to catch your breath or to prepare for the next round of sound assault.
I add new tracks as I hear them and really like them, especially if they're in the same categories as I described above!
I have Train to Nowhere universe playlist here, which has a bunch of songs that at either specific to certain characters, fit the vibe of the story overall, or are songs I want to make animatics of these characters to at some point

I’m also currently working on a playlist for my new story, Death Cap, but those characters haven’t been uploaded to toyhouse as of right now because I don’t have refs for them yet :(
Nothing's in any specific order, besides a few songs I wanted to put up front or space out so the listener isn't bombarded with like 5 NIN songs in a row. It's currently at 40 songs, and it's mostly stuff that reminds me of him/specific story beats I have for him rather than a music playlist he'd listen to. However, I do think he would be a Foo Fighters enjoyer in some modern AU and I have a handful of songs on there from them.
I have other playlists but I'm a little too embarrassed to make them public just yet until I do some sorting.
