I can't believe I haven't seen this thread before, honestly!
A lot of us have associated theme songs or playlists for our characters, relationships, or stories-- show off your favorites here!
How do you choose songs? Do you pick songs whose lyrics fit the character, songs the character might listen to, songs whose feel reminds you of them-- or other reasons? I'd love to hear your thought process!

i choose songs based on mood and lyrics. this process takes me 300 years and i'm never satisfied no matter what. I refuse absolutely 2 listen 2 rock music so unfortunately they would all think their playlists were garbage. sorry baby its all electronica/prog metal/industrial all the time in aarix's house.

ok I'm going to control myself here and just talk about one character edit: formatting ugh
cw cuz some of the album art and themes are nsfw and i mean it's mostly extreme metal, expect the expected
hate to feel by alice in chains - lyrics fit a little more than the other songs here, but i think she is a big fan of aic.
all that is evil by deicide. evil, death metal, she would love it and it's the vibe she aims to give off.

most of the songs i have on my current playlists are things they would listen to, since my main ocs rn are part of a band and it helped come up with a name and everything to know what their individual tastes would be. i rarely pick songs for playlists based on lyrics unless it's a joke playlist lol
I have playlists for a lot of my OCs, I pick songs mostly based on lyrics but the lyrics don't always have to fit 100%, vibes matter some too and if a song has just the right vibes it might make it on the list even if the lyrics aren't that accurate.

As far as recent playlists go, I've got this one I made for a small group of characters here (There is a 3rd guy I haven't uploaded yet). They don't have individual playlists yet but this playlist is just a small comfort to me when I wanna think about those particular ocs. I also like to think they listen to some of these songs when they're all on the road together
When it comes to choosing songs for character playlists, I usually choose songs that I can see my characters singing or whose lyrics pertain to them in some way! When it comes to instrumentals, it’s strictly based on vibes because I don’t know how else to judge those nakdnsj
Usually I choose songs that pertain to their storylines, but sometimes I find a song and then every time I listen to it I just think "wow this has [character] vibes" even if the lyrics don't fit. Some songs reflect their outlook on life or their personality; some are from someone else's perspective. Instrumental songs are based on vibes but fitting titles are a bonus. I have 9 character playlists but only 2 of them feel really coherent.
