RULE UPDATE [8/3/2022]

Once again, pretty self-explanatory thread. Your character tells the next character a secret about themselves, they respond, and so the cycle continues with them.

RULES AND GUIDELINES:

  • Keep NSFW to a minimum -- suggestions, implications, and innuendos are generally fine, but keep in mind that minors have access to this thread.
    • Romantic interactions are allowed, but only between adult characters.
    • Sensitive or gory interactions are also allowed, but must be put under a spoiler or blacked out.
  • Remember to post IC! The IC button is on top of the field where you write your post, just switch it on and select the character you wish to use.
  • There is a five sentence minimum in your response to the character above!
    • As a general suggestion, not quite a rule, however, please try to match half the post of the person you are responding to.
  • You may only post every three posts or three days after the last post, not three days after your own.
    • Example: [You] [x] [x] [x] [You] or You [x] [x] [three days pass] [You]
  • You may post a "claim" to avoid getting sniped, but please do not take too long on it!
    • You will be pinged here with a reminder after twelve hours of an unfinished claim. After twenty-four hours of an unfinished claim, you can be skipped by the next person.
  • You must prove that you have read the post that you have responded to. Your post must contain elements of the post above and/or the above character's information.
  • Be kind to your fellow players, but know that in-character views are not their own out-of-character. Just because their character's rude to yours doesn't mean they themselves feel that way!
    • Do not skip over users who have you blocked or who you have blocked. Wait for someone else to respond to them before posting.
  • I supervise this thread as much as I can, but if you spot problems, please either DM or ping me.

The confession sure is a heavy one. He expected smaller things, or things that weren't important and that could almost be laugh about; but that, that right there was a delivery he hadn't been prepared for. One hand resting on the butt of his guitar, the other holding its neck, he shifts his weight on the metal bench. There's a discomfort somewhere in his stomach that doesn't show itself in his neutral expression, and it makes him feel nauseous. How could anybody ever be a therapist? The world had so many woes and broken individuals who were hurting inside, that if he even attempted it, the first day would send him packing to the nearest island where he could never be contacted again. Not that Artemis' disclosure frightened him that badly or anything of the sort. It was just painful to be a witness to regrets that would forever be embedded.

"Think when I was eight, the neighbor's dog died, and I liked that dog a lot. I didn't know he died because he was the neighbors dog and it was when I was asleep it happened." The background details weren't important, he realizes. "Anyway, I was crying a lot because I didn't get to say goodbye to him. My mom told me that I could still do it, and maybe he would be able to hear me out there somewhere. I don't know if you believe in anything, but there's always that possibility. You can still tell her how you feel, an' how you miss her. Maybe she'll hear it."

---

His guitar is strapped to his back, and he turns his head to give a side glance to the other. The night sky shows a sea of stars and patterns of the inner city's lights flickering at a distance. The surrounding area is full of trees and woodland, setting a valuable settlement away from all the chaos and stress of modern life. Out here, it felt serene, calm. Cicada chorus chirped throughout the hills and all seemed right. Like life was supposed to be this soothing. "Yeah, I've known a few people who weren't the best. There was a time where I wish I spoke up against it, but I didn't. Friend of mine was kind of an ass. We were just out of high school and at a gig where young artists were playing. Didn't realize it at the time, but he was really mean about everyone else, picking on their band members and pointing out what they weren't doing right and how he could do it better. He didn't like this one group, and so while they were hanging out and taking a break before playing, we went backstage and destroyed their shit." He pauses, eyes slipping away. "Knifed the drums, stole their guitars' strings, snapped a few keys off their keyboard. By the time they went up to play, they couldn't 'cause we ruined it all. It's shit like that makes you think, what the fuck was even the point?"

Noel Alkaev Vapor

Noel rubbed the nape of his neck as he listened to Sunni, his eyes cast into the darkness of the surrounding woodland. He had never seen so many lights before, whether or not they were in the distance. He despised them. He tried to ignore them.

"You were an ass. No one can listen to that and say you weren't an ass." He stated. He splayed his hands atop his knees, and not once did he look upon the younger man. "Not that your friend wasn't also an ass, wasn't also vermin. But, you were young, weren't you?" He had no clue what high school was, but he assumed that Sunni was, like, seventeen at the time thing happened. He could relate. The old man, too, was a dumb fuck at seventeen. "But, instruments are so expensive... If anyone had done that to me, I'd probably beat their asses. If I didn't know them, I'd just hunt down their ass. I'd get there eventually. Not that I can even play music anymore."

With that, he waved his mangled hand. Don't do that, that's gross.

"But... yes, all I can say is at least you've grown up. Hopefully. Maybe you're still a bitch, I don't know, and I don't care as long as you're not a bitch to me."

"I had a wife a long time ago." Noel said to the other party, "I don't think about her very often, as even her face is a bit distant now. She was a writer, though, and she liked seafood and falconry. I didn't spend as much time with her as I should've, but I did love her."

The man paused for a moment to glance around the dingy room they were in. "We drifted apart over time, following something that really shouldn't have happened." They were so careful. He took care of her and stood by her side through those months.

"She was a sweet woman, and she didn't deserve a man like me. I'd come home with another woman and she'd be holed up in the nursery, just staring at the wall." he continued, "I left her, at some point. I took her out with me into the city and left her like a puppy. I know she died some years later, but Gods know how she died. I don't care to know about that. It's just like she never even existed. Nearly everyone else who knew about her is dead now, and the ones who aren't don't care to bring her up. I just wished I'd left her more... appropriately. Too late now, I guess."

Vinca Storm_Clouds

Vinca listened to Noel, the antennae on his head flicking back and forth absentmindedly as he listened to the man vent his past struggles. The recklessness of the actions described reminded the Light Gara of himself growing up, how he sometimes did the most stupid things only to regret them later on, wishing vainly to undo those actions. In his own mind he thought of Noel as weak for submitting to his own failures so easily, but he wasn't going to say that straight to his face.

"Well, it sounds like quite the unfortunate circumstance you were put in. Always emotions can lead one astray, and it certainly seems that has happened to you. It did sound like you loved her, at least at one point."

"However, you have to remind yourself that that was in the past, and the past cannot be changed like the future can. However you may weep and cast sorrow over those memories, they have already happened, and quite some time ago too judging from how you said that almost everyone who knew her has died. I know this may sound insensitive," Vinca warned, "But you should just accept it as a part of life and your past, and move on from it as best as you can. Do you wish it could be different? Yes. Can it be different now, after so long? Obviously not, so there isn't a need to lament over it." Vinca sighed. "I do wish the best of luck to you moving forward, however."

---

"Well, I do have to say I have quite a few skeletons in my own closet, but rather I wouldn't want to spill them all out to someone at once. Rather, there's one which I don't think is too bad to confess." Vinca admitted, sighing to himself. "I have- or rather, used to have- a lead engineer working for me, their name was Acacia. Wonderful individual, she was hardworking and diligent at her job, amazing at mechanical creations and served me well. But, I did have my suspicions that she was not as loyal as I would have liked her to be, and after snooping around I did have reasonable evidence that she was undermining my own plans."

"So," Vinca stated, with a blank expression. "I had no choice other than to execute them myself. I didn't trust anyone else to do it the right way, as I know she would talk them out of it somehow. I don't know if my method truly worked, to be honest, but if she wasn't dead from hitting the surface of the river from such a height or drowning, then the Dark Gara downstream certainly would have gotten to her." The dictator looked almost sly at this point. "My associates are somewhat suspicious of her disappearance, but I've made sure that she's been replaced by someone of similar skill so that progress is not hindered by her… absence."

"I don't feel sorry for executing her, as it was simply in my right to do so given the clues I had. I hope that can be understood."

(For the person down below if you're too lazy to read into their stories TL:DR: Acacia was 100% innocent and Vinca tried to execute her based off a hunch by literally throwing her off the floating city out of the sky, but it failed and she's still alive)

Joshua Dover kabuto

Joshua's eyes widened a bit when he heard Vinca admit to executing Acacia, but continued to listen to the king tell his tale. "...I understand completely." More than you think. However, even he wasn't quite brazen enough to admit to his own sin to a stranger, no less. No, not even his own wife knows about what he did and he plans to keep it that way. Unfortunately, Vinca's secret had made him reflect on his own past and he excused himself and made way to the bar, hoping a night of pounding a few beers down would make him forget.

A few hours later, Joshua was drunk and chatty- which is very uncharacteristic for him when he's sober. He looked to the TV in the bar and saw his estranged son on the news, talking about a high-profile case he was involved and and grimaced. He turned to the person next to him. "You see that guy on there? With the dreadful haircut? That was my son. I haven't talked to him in about 12 years, give or take. He never struck me as the lawyer type."

((HH SLIGHT EDIT BECAUSE I MATHED WRONG, WHOOPS))

Henrietta Payne damascus

People sometimes told her things like that--things they felt guilty about, usually little sins they thought a priest would scold them for. But it didn't usually happen when she was out of the habit. Not that she would wear the habit to a bar, anyway... come to think of it, she probably shouldn't have been in the bar, but Dea had asked her to wait there while he used the bathroom.

"Yeah?" HP said, glancing at the man--drunk--and then at the television mounted above the bar. Sure enough, a younger man with slightly questionable hair, depending on who you asked, was talking about a recent murder. Goosebumps rose up on her arms under her shirt, but she ignored them.

"So, is it your fault, or his?" she asked. "That you haven't spoken in that long, I mean." People didn't often disown their children for 16 years. Even in her case, it had only been for--what, 13 or so? She was curious, and Dea was taking a while. She wouldn't mind hearing this story, whether it was a tale of woe or a web of lies and excuses. Maybe another family's drama could distract her from the gruesome story unfolding on the tv above the bar.

tw, reference to child death

She hadn't had a drink in months. The nuns looked the other way on her smoking, but they'd surely kick her out if she were a drunk. A drink every once in a great while with dinner was okay, like on a special occasion, but just drinking to drink...

But it was that day and she couldn't handle it. Not sober, not again. So she'd ended up back in one of the dim-lit little bars in town, downing whiskey. There weren't many other patrons, but someone was seated just one seat over, and she got the sense that they were eyeing her just a bit warily. Yeah, you should. I might snap.

"I killed my brother," she said, voice low. The shift in posture told her that they had heard her. "Not literally. But it's my fault he died." Tears clouded her vision. "Today's the anniversary. He was eight. He wanted to be an astronaut. But 'cause of me..."

Thank god she wasn't going to remember this in the morning, or she'd be mortified for the way that tears spilled down her cheeks.

Salvador Wapenburg fizzelston

Salvador had finally stop pushing his almost empty beer glass around when the lady next to him started to speak. He was startled by her voice. As Salvador didn't expect her, being able to speak, after seeing how my h she drank already. Her voice made the tiny hairs on the back of his neck stand up. Her words made him shiver. "Oh...." He said. Dragging out that single word as long as  he possibly could. Starting at her, in a position ready to bold if he had too. "W. Well that sounds..Not right, kinda..sucks." Salvador muttered as he slowly raised from his seat. "I..i got to go now, n..nice talk, " he lied. Salvador hadn't enough alcohol in his blood to deal with this."s..sorry about your brother. M...must be very hard on you."

--

Salvador took a very sharp breath of air before giving you a big smile. Wow! I don't know what you've done but he seemed to like you. That's a first. "Listen!" He said. A clear enthusiastic tone in his voice. "I found out we're my mum's family live, here in Drakenburg, " he said. "They didn't really like the fact that my mum ran of with my pa, something about a class difference and him being a miner, " Salvador continued. He hadn't spoke so many words, in one sentence for a long time. He really seemed to trust you with this. "Maybe.. I should drop by, say hi. Or maybe.. I should break-in.. Steal stuff. watcha think?" Salvador asked you. "Their address is Vhersepond 14," Salvador whispered into your direction. "Don't tell anyone that!"

Korrina Voridis Vapor

"How naughty of you." Korrina remarked. Great! "You, Salvador, are so naughty, and so trusting, I'd say, to give this kind of information to me. I could send a man over there to snatch their riches before you could even manage." Just kidding. She didn't have that kind of power. It was foolish, but she liked to daydream of acquiring the control her husband had. She sighed and rested her cheek in the palm of her hand, sinking back into her seat.

"But, really," she continued, "They sound like fools, don't they? Dare I say..." She flashed him a soft smile. "Head over to Vhersepond 14 and do what you'd like. I can't really stop you from going in there and taking what you'd like, or rubbing your existence in their faces. Who knows? It... might not end horribly. I just hope your luck is as good as I think it is."

Please don't give him any ideas. Please don't send him to get his ass kicked.

this one discusses abortion so watch out

"I'm afraid of birth." Korrina stated, "So afraid, in fact, that I've tried to avoid it for the longest time, though perhaps I wouldn't have gone to such lengths if my partner were normal. My husband is a pig, a brute, a drunk-- anything horrible you can think of, he's probably that. A man who enjoys being a man." She stopped to laugh, even though this really was no laughing matter.

"I had a maid who gave me tea to rid myself of his poison. She did so twice before my husband somehow caught wind of it. I don't know what happened to that maid, but I can only assume she's been spending her days in a prison somewhere." The woman paused. The corner of her mouth twitched. "She was slender, a little older than myself but around six feet tall. She was the only person who knew, aside from my husband..."

"I had twins afterward, if you can believe it." she added, "Two children dead, two children living. The gods must have been furious with me, and to this day... it rivals for the worst experience of my life."

15$ Carnage

"Hey.... I'm sorry." Malcom says softly, his fingers twitching, resisting the urge to pat her shoulders in a comforting manner. "I'm sorry that you had to go through that, if there is..." he inhales deeply, "If there is anything i can do to help, i would do it in a heartbeat. Just ask me and I'll see what I can do" He smiles sadly and opens one hand, allowing flames to burst in the middle of his palm. "I can make it look like an accident.... you just say the word." he smirks.

Malcom fiddles with his fingers nervously, "i....uhm..." he exhales shakily and runs his fingers through his hair. "I'm gay... Harrison doesn't know, please don't tell him. I don't know how he'll react." he rubs the back of his neck and laughs nervously, a hint of fear in his eyes, "Promise you won't tell?"

Amarin Pinkapop

"Ah...that's a harsh one on you there buddy. I'm sorry about that..." Amarin was laying nearby, her face was merely worried for Zachary. "I'm sure your mother will forgive you...if you talk to her right, mother and child bond never parts...or at least that's what my kind is." She sighed "Hey, I hope you can reconcile with your parent, may the miracle guide the fortune." she blessed Zach one last time.

After blessing Zach, Amarin turned to the next person. She doesn't seem to be hesitate about what she's about to reveal. Amarin then plucked one of her Diamond Plumage and places it on the ground. "Most hunters know this plumage is scale with feather, worth as much as diamond. But what they don't know is what it can be used for." She paused before going to the kitchen and bring a cop of boiling water, then picks up the feather-scale she plucked and dropped it into the boiling water. "One of the usage is an incredible ability to cure illness, a tea of Diamond Plumage can cure many sorts of thing from common flu to cancer. It also gives strength boost and durability." She offered the tea to the next person with a smile "I normally don't give out my scale, but I trust you on this."

Roy Lane PicklePantry

Roy was grateful for having run into Amarin. Although her appearance was new to him and surprising, she helped navigate him through the forest when he'd gotten lost. However, nighttime seemed to fall, so he took refuge with her until morning came.
In that time, she made him tea and explained the ingredient in it and its power. His eyes widened as he looked from her scales to the tea handed to him. "Just one scale is enough to do all that?" he asked and took a sip. It was hot, but he could already feel a surge of strength go through his body. "Thank you for sharing that with me," he nodded at the dragon. He'd be sure to remember this once he got back to the castle and try to keep this forest protected from hunters wanting that power.

With a heavy sigh, the king sat down. He had a troubled look on his face. In fact, he was so bothered by his thoughts that he wasn't even sure who he was next to. "I... have never really been attracted to guys," he muttered lowly. "I mean?? I don't know! Growing up I didn't! But ever since becoming king I feel so... confused! Especially towards this one guy. He's just so... nice, and handsome, and warm..." he drifted off with a smile before realizing what he was doing, tensing up and blushing. "I'm nearing thirty! I wouldn't think I'd have these high school feelings anymore! Is that... Is that even possible? Is it possible to awaken some, uh, weird feelings this late in my life??"

 Aldrik Gomji

Because the man looked so troubled, Aldrik was ready to pat his back to help him calm down. However, what he didn't expect for him to say was about...being in love with a man? He stared and stared as Roy confessed with a look of bliss and worry. Man, he really was in love with whoe er this guy was. He felt happy for the king, he really did; but what was that prickling feeling in his heart?

He felt a wave of disappointment but stopped to think about the situation for a moment. Certainly, there were plenty of men around Roy, but Aldrik felt that he was usually more relaxed around them in contrast to being with him. Perhaps....he was talking about Aldrik? He could've sworn his face turned beet red at this point.

"Well first if all," he cleared his throat. "It's not strange...to be confused at one point in your life. I mean, they say life is full of surprises, right? Also, you're never too old to fall in love like that." He was trying so hard not to sweat and stutter while saying that. "Who knows? That certain...someone might feel the same way too! You never know!" For a brief moment, there was silence. "Scratch that, I guarantee he will like you back. I promise."

Aldrik glanced from left to right. "I never really told anyone about this, since it's kind of like a pride thing." He laughed softly. "As a werewolf, I'm expected to be this viscious beast that doesn't let anyone or anything order me around. Some part of that is true, but in all honesty, I'm more like a dog. I love playing with dog toys, and I guess it's sort of like a guilty pleasure?" He looked embarrassed as he said this.

Mawkish Driamraenord damascus

Mawkish considered the confession for a moment. "That makes sense, though. I mean, I'm no werewolf, but I'd rather play than be violent too... It actually sounds really cathartic, to be able to play like that. Bet it feels good to howl, too. But that's just my assumption!" The tiefling cleared his throat. "Nothing to be embarrassed about, as far as I can tell."

"Don't tell anybody this, but... well, maybe I shouldn't say anything. A secret is only a secret if you keep it to yourself." He looked downright miserable, hands folded in his lap. "I'm in love with someone in my party. Our leader, actually. I've never told him how I feel because... I know I couldn't handle the rejection. So instead I talk a big game, like I could woo anyone I wanted, and put on an act. It's..." He laughed breathily, running a hand through his curly locks. "Pretty pathetic, isn't it," he said with finality.

Nathaniel Clement fizzelston

"They should keelhaul you lad, " he said with a strick face. He let the words linger for a long second, before barking out loud grumbling laughter. Nathaniel even softly hit Mawkish shoulder. In a playful manner. 'Just messing with you. Seriously though, " Nathaniel pulled a series face. "You should tell him. I know that's the last advice ya want to hear from an old sailor like me. But it's true, " Nathaniel's thundering laughter finally calmed down and he bared his fangs in an almost polite smile. "Ya still young kid. Grab this chance before it's lost forever. You gonna regret it, take my old sailor's word on that." Not that his, old sailor words, we're something reliable.

Violence tw :(

"Mmm, " Nathaniel said. He started at his bottle of rum with a closed expression. "I had a love once, " Nathaniel nodded his head as if he could direct his words in away. "But I left her " he told you. "I had too. I wasn't good enough for her. I was from the away lower class you see, " Nathaniel continued. "I'm always a bastard, " he said. "Filth," Nathaniel smiled waterily, baring his beast-like fangs a bit too much. "I hated her. Her family. And especially her new husband, " Nathaniel spat on the ground. A soft grumble sound rumbled deep in his throat. "So.. I made her watch when I broke every one of his fingers."
