Luhua stares at him blankly, taken aback by his tone of voice. It wasn't that she was insulted per se, but more so shocked by how upfront he was. 

"My real personality?" Her brows furrow as she parrots his question. "I'm sorry, but...what do you mean by that? Don't get me wrong, I-I'm not feigning ignorance or anything. It's just, well, couldn't one argue that my 'bubbly act' is just a facet of my personality? The way I see it, being around different people just brings out different aspects of your personality. No matter how you act, you're still you: no one side of you is the 'real' side. Your 'true' personality is every side you have put together, including the ability to adapt. After all, personality traits are broad enough to account for a wide range of socially important behaviors." 

She pauses. "Am...am I rambling?"

"Knock the bubbly act off, princess. What's your real personality like."

“If you don’t mind my asking, what is the little fellow on your shirt? A beetle or spider for a pet perhaps? Or is there something more to them?”

The undead glowers at Margot with open hostility, metal gauntlets creaking under her clenched fists.

“Whiny? I am being whiny?” She repeats the word slowly, as if testing it in her own mouth. “I am not surprised you lack the ability to wholly understand the concept. After all, your focus on the external of those around you, treating them like things that simply exist to be observed, limits your perspective.” Illanya leans forward, her eyes blazing with light. 

“Allow me to put it simply. I lost everything the day I died. My people reviled me, cast me out because they believed I was a monster.” She snarls, armor clinking as she brings a hand to her chest. “I am trapped within a mere mockery of my own body. Cursed to live as nothing more than a broken tool, still running from those who would abuse my power and force me into submission.” Illanya pushes away, pacing frustratedly so that she doesn’t throw herself at Margot in her anger. 

After a moment, she stops, heaving a breath she doesn’t need. Enmity is still clear in her expression but she at least doesn’t appear to be on the verge of attacking. 

“Perhaps you should be weary asking such brazen questions.” She says softly, and magic sparks across her knuckles, crackling. A threat, not particularly subtle either. “Lest you wish to experience undeath yourself. I wonder if you’d be whiny then?”

"...I fail to see why this 'undead' thing has you so... touchy. There is no scientific, agreed upon definition of 'life'- except, perhaps, to adapt and respond to external stimuli. Is there something ideological I'm missing that has you so whiny?"

Margot screeches, and before she knows it, those same wings have buzzed and carried her up, crowding herself in the corner of a ceiling.

"A-Absolutely not! Get that thing away from me for purely unrelated reasons!"
