Ask a question to the user above you!

Posted 6 years, 13 days ago (Edited 6 months, 2 days ago) by hedgemaze

We have lots of threads to ask questions to or about characters, but what about the users? In the vein of the Say something to the TH user above you! thread and the I want to see a TH user who... thread (and serving basically as a non-anonymous CuriousCat), this is a thread to help you get to know your fellow TH users better by asking the person above you a question. In return, the person below you will pose a question to you. After you're asked a question, edit your post with your answer!

If you're uncomfortable or don't want to answer the question you were given for any reason, just say so and leave a fun fact about yourself so the game still serves its purpose. If a question is truly problematic, message me with any concerns.

Rules:

  • Don't ask questions that are very personal or could be uncomfortable, and bear in mind that many TH users are minors, so while I encourage you to look at the profile of the user above you and ask about something mentioned if you like (like their pets, their hobbies, or their current project), please don't ask very personal questions like exactly where someone lives.
  • Try to ask something fun or interesting, but it's fine if you don't know the person above you at all-- getting to know each other better is the point of this thread! It's fine to ask something general like what their hobbies are, who their favorite fictional character is, how they came up with their username, which of their own characters is their favorite, or how they found ToyHouse.
  • Of course, it's great if you ask something more specific, too! If you know they have a lot of fandom characters, you might ask how they got into that fandom, or if they have a unique art style, you might ask how they developed it!
  • There's another thread for specific questions about characters, and another for worlds, but you can ask general/broader questions about a person's creations here, like how long they've been working on their story, or what inspires or influences them. I'm not going to keep writing examples, but you get the idea. Just use common sense and try to get to know your fellow TH users better!
  • You can ask multiple questions in your comment if you want to, but only one is fine, too. This can be as in-depth or as casual as you like.
  • Please ping the person above you so you make sure that they see your question! If you're not sure how to do this, you simply type @THEIRUSERNAME, and they will be notified! This will not work if you edit the ping into your comment later (like if you wanted to claim and then edit your question in); you must put it in when you first submit the comment.
  • You are NOT ALLOWED to skip anyone in this thread. If you cannot see the post above you because the poster or you have blocked each other, wait for another person to comment before replying to the thread. Feel free to bump the thread to encourage others to participate!
  • Wait at least a couple of posts before going again.
  • Edit your original comment with your answer to keep this clear; please DO NOT add new comments to the thread just to answer someone's question. This gets confusing. Take it to private messages if you want to have an ongoing conversation.
  • You can bump the thread as often as you like; I don't mind.
  • Be nice and have fun!   Please don't be rude if someone asks you a question you've already answered before! If that happens, you may link your previous response if you don't want to go over it again, but I recommend adding something new to say about the topic, if you can!
  • Want to play the game in reverse? Answer a question from the user above!

The first person can either ask me something or just claim a spot!

Edit: my answer

"Hedgemaze Expo" is the name of the main characters' band in my comic! I've been using either HedgemazeExpo or Hedgemaze as a username ever since, which is to say since 2003! Most people just call me Hej for short now.

The name itself doesn't mean much of anything, other than that I liked both words and liked the sort of paradoxical nature of an exposition dedicated to huge structures that can't be moved (what do they exhibit, photos? bush samples? tiny mazes?). In terms of the comic, it's just supposed to be a unique, kind of awkward, and silly band name, because in-story, it's an inside joke between my characters Jill and Amber.

All my forum games and threads

Hogarth

circlejourney it says on your profile that you're a musician (and many other things thats so COOL) is it okay to ask how you got into making music? and why is it all so good (also im listening to some of it rn its so so so GOOD)

callilux omg so many questions thank you so so much for asking ;w;

When it comes to handling my stories and what to work on and such, it's mostly decided by mood and what i think needs work at the time. Not recommended lmao i tend to mix up characters and names. Luckily 2 don't need too much work so that makes deciding easier. It also helps that most of them have been written/helped written with a friend, so if they're in the mood to work on one of em, then it's that stories turn to get attention!

OOOO All my stories are different genres and i try to make em different, but there's one commonality i always keep, and that's what I call the Golden Trio! (If you look at my three characters Hugo, Astral and Hogarth, they're an example of the golden trio) There's always going to be three/sometimes four characters that are similar in some way between my others. First, there's always going to be a stupidly tall parent friend to the main group who is reserved and is usually arguably the smartest in the story, whether is be they studied their way there or learned through life. Second, there's going to be the "sibling" to the group who is energetic, short, and would die for their friends. Third, there's a short mysterious character who always wheres a hat, almost never talks, and is strangely and eerily knowledgeable of everything lol. Personally I do this so if the reader checks out my other stories after reading they won't feel bombarded by complete unfamiliarity, yknow? that got so rambly im so sorry

hope these answers are okay!!

Can you tell me about Camellia and Zachary? What do you love and hate about them?

Ooh boy.

Yin and Yang are twins, and their names are really Winter and Adrian. They grew up as nobles. Seeing as how in this time it is usual to engage your children, their parents had tried many times. With Adrian being, well, Adrian and constantly closed off and Winter being genderfluid and refusing to say whether they were a boy or a girl, that was pointless.

When old enough, their parents shipped them off to a school where they helped you develop powers. There they spent the summer. Winter learned that they had two powers, but decided to focus more on controlling/manipulating light.

Adrian, unlike his twin, didn’t develop any and couldn’t use magic. He did learn how to use a weapon though. For two years, the two were in seperate classes until Adrian developed the same powers as Winter. He chose to focus on shadow though.

They got the nicknames Yin and Yang because of their powers and the fact they are twins, but that’s probably going to change a bit. They are now well known for their skills and are basically just called Yin and Yang by everyone.

That’s pretty much their backstory.

Winter is very social and bubbly. Between the three categories of Thinker, Feeler and Actor, they are definitely an actor. They don’t think through something before doing it or saying it.

Adrian is closed off and constantly grumpy. He’s a thinker. He thinks things through, most of the time. He is also classified as an actor like his twin.

Their personalities are kept short for reasons I won’t explain right now.

They are two of my favourites to work with. I have so many others though! I love Topaz, Saffron, Francois and some characters that I’m still working to get done. They are really only my icon because I was obsessed with them and their story at the time I put them up.

No, they haven’t always been. It used to be a character I don’t have on my TH account. Her name is Sarah and her story is... hard to explain.

Original Backstories:

Yin (Black hair white tips)
Yin, here what i did come with for him*you may change it*  Yin unlike his counter part Yang is a normally un happy boi who pretty much stays alone unless Yang comes and "Bother" him. Yin is know as "Dark soul" for the reason when you are around him you feel sad and alone, not many people like and often tease him but he ignores them pretty well but every now and again his temper gets control of him and he lashes out. He has to wear his collar to keep more stable or less likely to lash out, unless Yang is there yang can keep him calm .
Yin, (taken)

Yang (White hair black tips)
Here what i came up with for Yang(you may change it) , Yang is a neutral type character but can get really hyper and happy easily, he is a femboy and normally wears outfits that are more girly but he doesn't mind. People do tease him for it, Yang can also gets really sad but he tries not to get sad. He loves to be around people, though he does need his time alone as well, he trys his best to stay postive but can be like Yin sometimes and just hate everything but for the most part is really happy. His necklace that he wears (black tear drop thing i made the string part white idk why) Keeps him from being an emotional wreck but his gem does have a small crack in it meaning the power is a little more weaker.
(taken)

That’s the backstories from when I first adopted them. I thought about what I could do with them and eventually, I got a basic idea through talking and spewing bull crap I hadn’t meant at the time, but it actually happened and here I am now.

Yang was a guy with girl clothing but I decided to make them genderfluid.

Because the names they came with were Yin and Yang, I decided: fuck it. I’ll do some research and they became a bit based off of the yin and yang symbol, but I’m still working on that.

But yeah it was mostly me spewing bullshit-

PicklePantry

@TaniWenic

Tell me a bit about Yin and Yang! Since they're your icon, they must be the most important character to you, right? Have they always been? What were the ideas that helped shaped these two characters?

Just about all of my villains, or all characters for that matter, came from a simple concept. Their development happened after playing around with them for a bit. I think what stands out the most is Ark with pushing the "Light isn't always Good" theme, or Frederick with large nods to Ace Attorney.
Nikolai's backstory had an interesting inspiration, being based on WWII purely because I had a project to work on at the time. Intertwining it with Nikolai's story made it to where I'd at least remember important parts while also messing around, and soon enough it started to smooth down well with his fictional life.

As for pickles, I just love them. They're delicious KEKEKEK

PicklePantry

You have a lot of really interesting and well-developed villain characters. Do any of them have any particular inspirations behind their creation? And do you prefer making villains or good guys?

Also, why do you like pickles so much?

Hey, thanks!

My username is a mix-up of two different things. The first part is a reference to one of my favourite games, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. The second part is a reference to my old dragon character Raincloud, who isn't on this site currently.

I've been interested in fantasy creatures for as long as I can remember. I was creating stories about dragons and medieval knights before I was even fully literate (I used to draw little comics about them), and I don't really know why I like dragons so much. They're just interesting creatures, and I have a lot of freedom when making dragon characters because nobody actually knows what they're 'supposed' to look like.

I didn't entirely know what RPing was until around October 2013 when I did a dragon-based roleplay with someone, who explained it all to me. Since then I've RPed regularly in a variety of different worlds and with different people. I think it's a great way to develop characters and to understand how they talk and react to various situations. Though I don't often do big RPs, I'm usually always up for short character interactions.

Hope that answers everything you wanted to know!

What would you say your inspirations are? I really like your art style so I was wondering if there were any artists that influence you over others?

I see your profile says you enjoy vocaloid. Do you have a favorite one? Do you work with them also? If you do, which voice bank do you enjoy working with the most?

okay I was gonna answer last night but my cousin dragged me out of the house to see the fireworks that were happening in town and i came home dead tired sorry for the delay lmao

Yeah that's SNOBBISM! I've been looping that song so much I am actually sick of it lmao The Rin/Len vocaloid version kinda ruins it for me tho their voices sound super weird to me there ;;

I don't have a favorite genre per say. Honestly I could give you a few songs I enjoy now and that will change two days later, my tastes fluctuates a lot lmao. I do tend to go for older, 1980-1990-2000 songs? (Thanks dad)

I go for Vocaloid too! Basically just whatever I find melodious and appealing lmao

As for PV, I'll assume you mean the videos that go with the songs, and I enjoy SNOBBISM's video a lot, I love the style so much and the animation is so good??? Goals omfg

I love Dream Meltic Halloween's video too, and HYPERDONTIA by GHOST is really good too! And Korokoro Korogaru by Kikuo has a pretty video oh good LORD

There was also this song by GHOST back when they were called Martz Mitzy or smth similar called "Ai" and was this remix of this song and it was in Japanese? I can't find it anymore but the art was super pretty. I still have the song saved on a cd and it still sounds super rad (even tho the instrumental is a lil loud), you can add that song to my faves too lmao.

Caine

polkadot Ooh hey is your avatar from that snobbism song? I've been looping 少年T's version of the song just recently hehe. What kind of music do you like, in general? Any favourite artists? Also I feel like you probably have seen quite a deal of PVs too do you happen to have a favourite (I personally love ONE OFF MIND's PV a whole lot)

What kind of characters do you find the funniest to write (you can choose any theme, trope etc.)?

I think I really enjoy writing characters who're acting sort of ridiculous in a way or another, although usually it's harmless and makes them seem like a fool rather than them inconveniencing others! Cyrus, Knut and Julius for example are all characters who tend to exaggerate their feelings a lot and emote very strongly with their face and thanks to that I get to write a lot of silly shenanigans and turn dangerous/awful situations into funny ones. Human being using humor as a way to cope, however intentional, is one of my favourite phenomena and I love to explore it + I just generally like writing characters having pretty harmless shenanigans

As for tropes I think "dude looks like a lady" and bishōnen are my my pet tropes because I have a lot of feminine/androgynous looking guys, and it has everything to do with the fact I'm self indulgent and like to write characters who physically resemble me but who are totally different in personality & react to their bodies differently! I grew up super ashamed of looking androgynous and having a ton of weird medical problems on the side that only made it more visible and so I kind of want to normalize guys looking not-so-traditionally-masculine. And I enjoy the challenge of characters who have a similar situation etc as I do but who go around it in completely different ways because separating myself from my characters is always a really fun challenge and actually helps me get different perspectives too! For example Claude, Knut and Julius all fall under the same trope looks wise but Knut is totally indifferent to it (he literally doesn't even think about it), Julius is extremely grumpy and easily angered about the subject and greatly dislikes being mistaken for a girl and Claude, while certainly sensitive about it, tries to use it for his advantage at the expense of his feelings.

Koprze hi hi~

I was looking at your characters and my god my god, what cuteys! I liked the fear project, and my question is, Where did the idea of making characters based on phobias come from?

Kirbygal Thx qwq Think in an original name is hARD

I literally created she cuz- eh, boerd. I wanna come back for Kirby fandom, so I can develop she better, but for now I hve that planned~

Gellya is an innocent and pessimist puffball, she is very shy and prefers to read to make friendships. She is mute, so she has to communicate by signs or drawings.

She is very afraid of being touched, almost a phobia, but a few people can at least hug she.

Kirbygal

@Cinna-CaramelRoll First of all your username is so cute and sweet xD Anyway, I notice you have a Kirby oc :D And she's adorable~ Do you have any info on her, or maybe what made you create her?

Ooh wow, I'm going into biochem too, in the fall, though I'm less excited about it than you may be ;; It sounds tough and i know ppl who took the class already... XD. I guess I've always liked science during school, more so than other subjects (besides art and music lol). In high school I had a really great chem teacher, and then a good ap chem teacher, so those two were more significant influences. I ended up liking chem more than biology xD Surprisingly though, I don't have that many science related ocs xD Most of the ocs I have have topics that I pick out of thin air tbh ;; Though I do make some little researches about some topics to try and develop them. If this counts though, my main two ocs, Casanova and Helix, in my astronomer folder, was based on my childhood interest in astronomy. I've always thought it was cool, and I took a short astronomy class in high school when it was offered. It's also one of the best aesthetics lmao.

OH wow i just remembered my chem ocs set lmao ok so these were based off a friend who was making them so i decided to make my own too XD So far I have three of them, one is an element while the other two are compounds xD I dunno why I picked Cesium, i think it's because I WAs reading a random facts post about it and got inspiration, but I know iT wouldn't have been the first to pop up in my mind initially. I picked the other two more consciously, Nitrous more so than Cyanide. I was kinda inspired by all the ways nitrous oxide could be used, mainly the speed boost part for cars which is why I made him a racecar driver xD And about it being laughing gas, which is why Nitrous can only do different variations of smiles despite whatever his emotion would be.

Interestingly, I don't have a chem scientist oc... yet . I need to have that certain inspiration for it to create one. Meanwhile, I have a pediatrician, and an almost neurologist, when personally I'm not that interested in the medical field at all XD However I think your virus idea is super cool :D It sounds very interesting and i'M curious to know more~

ShadmeTheAngel

Kirbygal Hey, you're studying chem! I'm going into biochem this August and I'm super excited about it. :D What made you interested in studying science and chemistry? Do you find that your interest in science affects the way you make characters or worlds? For instance, I know myself that I'm slightly curious about viruses and making a fictional series about viruses cooperating with humans, but I want to use what I've studied first so that there's a realistic basis to it, haha.

None of those are too personal at all! I'd be delighted to answer. :D I got into Kid Icarus thanks to Super Smash Bros. Brawl. When I started playing SSBB with my brother and I was much younger, I refused to play humanoid characters. My brother accidentally got KO'd when we were playing the story mode together and I wound up as Pit, to my dismay, but found out that I really liked playing as him and as a result, I became more interested about where he came from. Uprising came out a few years later, and of course I had to buy that. I found out the game was much different than I expected (in a good way). The rest is history! :3 Besides Kid Icarus, I like Pokemon, Smash Bros, Fire Emblem, Fossil Fighters and other similar Nintendo games I'm probably forgetting, lol. I prefer turn-based RPGs and puzzle games, so Uprising's a bit of an anomaly in terms of my favorites. The characters, story and lore potential are definitely what make up for how much I stink at its gameplay- I think I prefer writing fanfiction to playing the game itself, lol. XD

Heart of Fire was created in one single morning. I had been in a RP years ago where we all had one character of six elements- the Chosen Ones- and their purpose was to stop a dark lord. I had so many good memories and so much good nostalgia for it that, one day, after I'd woken up and was in the mood to do something spontaneous, I decided to do something with this idea. I was too impatient to open up an RP and wait for people to join, so I decided to make it my own story. I pulled in one of my RP characters (Ember) as the main protagonist and designed the rest of the characters around her. I used in the basic idea of the plot, but with my own twists and turns. After planning out the entire story that morning, I wrote four chapters in a day! Admittedly, the story is a bit clunky, and there are some plotholes I'm working on filling in, but for the most part, it still pretty much works, which is darn impressive for one nostalgic, half-awake fourteen-year-old. X'D

celestiials

I wonder what exactly got you into Kid Icarus; you have several characters based off of it, and I’m just wondering! Do you have any other favorite games besides Kid Icarus?

Also I’m not sure if this is too personal, but what inspired you to come up with Heart of Fire? If it is then just skip this question whoops

Hmmm, I’d say what fascinates me about it is how the characters are like; they can do really cool things and yet most of the characters that appear in mythology are still human (metaphorically lmao @ greek mythology), it’s a reminder that nothing in life is perfect, no matter what. The struggles that they go through are also really intriguing as well in my opinion for me? Like I really wanna see what happens next to the hero/god/whatever!

I don’t have a favorite story per se but I do have some favorite mythologies: right now it’s a mix up between Greek mythology and Norse mythology, but Egyptian and Biblical mythology are still pretty neato! And for the last question... well that’s kind of a mixed bag. I’d say that they’re usually pretty close to the originals, though some are kind of me having to change things: for example Hermes is asexual instead of bisexual because he’s physically ten; I don’t want to run the risk of accidentally pissing others off, same case with Tetu/Thoth being a girl (i was afraid of pissing others off if tetu was male due to her design hh)
