Ask about the above OC's VISUAL DESIGN

Posted 5 years, 7 months ago (Edited 1 year, 6 months ago) by RadiantRaindragon

Hello and welcome!

This is a question game specifically for talking about characters' physical appearances. Their outfit? Their hairstyle? Their scars? An accessory they always wear or a sword they always carry? You get the idea.

15/02/2019:

To help clarify what kinds of questions are allowed in this game, I've made a list of correct and incorrect examples! Hopefully this should help out anyone who's stuck thinking of a question!

Format example:

Person 1's post: Why does Spike have a necklace of house keys? Edit: Adder got the scar during a criminal job that went a little wrong.

Person 2's post: Where did Adder get that scar from?

You can post IC if you want the next person to question a specific character, or you can post OOC and let them pick for themselves. If you post IC, try to stick to characters that have something noteworthy in their designs - while there's nothing wrong with more plain characters, it can be hard to think of an interesting question about them.

-Rules-

1. Stick to the theme of the game. Your post must include at least one question related to the character's design. You are allowed to ask non-design questions as extras.
2. Don't be rude or passive-aggressive towards other people or their characters in any way.
3. Wait for at least 3 people to post before you go again (unless over 12 hours have passed since the last post, then it's fair game for anyone).
4. All characters must have at least one, SFW art piece. This means characters with no art, or only 18+/filtered art, cannot be posted. You are allowed to skip people if they have no art or only 18+/filtered art.
5. Please do not post the same character repeatedly. This is to lessen repetition of the game.
6. Do not skip people (unless they're breaking Rule 4). Even if the above user has blocked you, that is not valid reason for skipping them.

I actively monitor the thread for rule-breaking, but if you think I missed something, please PM me and let me know.

If you break rules: Depending on the severity of the situation, I may either PM you with a warning or immediately ban you from the game. Regardless of severity, you can be banned if you repeatedly break rules.

Why is his nose crooked? Was it broken once, or always that way? And are his red eyes a result of being a vampire? If so, what colour were they before he became one?

The runes on Draero's collar are part of a rune alphabet I made up, which is the writing 'language' in their world! They aren't magical, they're just an alternative alphabet. They use the regular English alphabet too, but the angular runes are supposed to be easier for dragons to write with. The ones on his collar just spell out 'dragon' (though I'll probably change them to spell out his name or something, that would be better).

Draero is considered slightly below average size for his species. When fully grown he stands at about 10ft tall, while Draorture (the other black dragon who is mentioned on his profile) is 12ft tall.

RadiantRaindragon Asking about Draero!

What do the runes on his collar represent? Are they magical? Also, is Draero large for his species, or rather small?

I felt that since he spends a lot of his time seducing others, a cat would be a good fit for him. Also, I had too many fox hybrids at the time lol. His tail design isn’t really significant, I just like “cat” tails that look like that for some reason. It was tough to choose Angelo’s eye colour. I went with a colour that would stand out since his eyes are meant to be really sharp. I went with grey at first, actually!

Raddishes is there a reason Cress has a hair color like that? I've never seen one like it on an oc! Is it dyed or just naturally that way? :0

Oh, Lionel! Well, the elemental thing is both because I thought it was cool and because back in the time that Lionel is alive, the whole "4 elements make up everything" theory by Aristotle was still around and that people believed in that. The snake part was because I've always seen snakes belong to evil or morally grey characters, so I thought "why can a prince not have some snake pets?"

AlleycatIrony

i've always liked lionel's concept but what was the inspiration behind making him have water and fire snakes in place of arms/hands? it's not something i've ever seen before and i'm interested :3

hm good question! it's a mix of tough and easy, in the sense that all my OCs (humanoid anyway) typically have an ethnicity attached to them regardless if they're like 'mermaids' or 'fantrolls' ect, so i already had a pretty solid idea of how i wanted them to look some designs look a little different such as nemura (or navin) keeping his hair tied back as opposed to out, but nothing really major... outfits are usually something i need to alter to fit in more w/ normal human standards and that's what i have the most trouble w/ bc i'm horrendous at designing clothing ;w;

all of the biggest changes come w/ personality actually - not design! being in a different world and having different experiences and relationships, i suppose u'd expect them to be different! using nemura as an example again - in the troll verse he's very narcissistic, dangerous, and violent (to put it short), and in the human verse he's just a depressed, lonely college student who lives on 2 minute noodles - so there's a vast difference in a lot of characters in that same sense but yeah, it's mostly personality rather than design that's different :3

it is really fun changing them all though - but i guess the real difficult thing is the fact that i really do miss the dark blacks and greys contrasting w/ the orange horns... it was nice seeing them in my character lists so changing them human is taking a lot of getting used to!

In regards to Mephi's shapeshifting, are there any particular forms or traits that he favours? Does he change his appearance depending on the situation? And why does he often choose to have goat legs?

Also, with your characters in general, it looks like you have quite a few designs with pale colour palettes (white/blond/silver hair, light coloured skin, light clothing, albinos, etc.). Do you just prefer making/drawing characters with light colour palettes?

Well, Crowley originally came from a dream I had (way back in February 2014), so lots of his design elements came from there. I originally saw him as a humanoid thing, and later designed him a dragon form based on that. (I didn't want to draw him as a human since I couldn't draw them back then.) I knew he was supposed to be some sort of... crow... hybrid... thing, so that's mainly what I went for when I first drew him.

His design has changed a little bit. Originally he had pure black scales and feathers instead of dark blue, but this proved too difficult to draw and shade, so I eventually changed his colours. I have a picture of his 2014 design here:

As for why I chose the colours he has now - it was all based on his original dream appearance with a few slight changes. I like dark colours, and I liked the contrast of his white feathers against dark scales. That's pretty much it!

Lilina

So, about Crowley, what was your first thought before you made him in terms of design? Does he have any concept or older designs before his final and current design? Also, why did you choose dark purple, yellow, and white as his colors?

Please pick from only the ones that I've designed, or just talk about my character designs in general!

In response to Apollo's hat, it's inspired by Cappy from Super Mario Odyssey, and it's drawn in a rubberhose style just like the rest of Apollo's design. It was added to make Apollo's design to look a little more villainous and cartoony.

Esoterin Rorichi

I'll ask about Apollo's hat~! Why did you decide to add the eyes to his hat? Is it just to make the design look more cartoony or there was a different reason for it?

Anita RadiantRaindragon

Rorichi

First off, I have to apologise - I was in a bit of a hurry and couldn't read her entire profile, so I apologise if anything I'm about to ask is already explained in her bio or anything!

How did her horn get broken? Did the little halo around her horn appear after it was broken, or has it always been a part of her? Also, she seems to like clothes and has a lot of different outfits. Are there any clothes or colours that she doesn't like?

Anita was originally intended to live in some kind of modern world, but I later decided to shift the time period backwards to somewhere in the early 20th century. Unfortunately I can't really say much about her outfit or why I designed it the way I did. I'm really not an outfit design person (it's one of the reasons I don't have a lot of human characters or draw them often), so I think I just... threw together some clothing that vaguely made me think 'early 20th century' and didn't go into it any further than that.

She really likes long coats and always looks forward to winter for the sake of being able to wear them. Also colourful dresses, but she rarely wears them since they aren't part of the school dress code and/or she can't afford them. She doesn't like wearing black or white, most of her clothing has at least some colour.

She does have a couple of small scars, mostly because of her tendency to do reckless things for the sake of fitting in with her more adventurous classmates. She doesn't do this often, but occasionally peer pressure gets to her and she tries to do something she would normally never attempt. She has a long scar on the back of her right wrist that came from falling out of a tree, just to name one. Usually though, she's very careful/sensible and doesn't do anything stupid, so she's never had a serious injury.

Henri Lowell Caine

When you were designing Anita, did you have any specific century / date in mind when you did so? Did it affect the way you designed her clothes? What kind of other clothes does she wear, and is there something she would never wear no matter what?

Also, does she have any scars on her body, and if yes, do they have any stories behind them? And if no, what's the biggest reason to why she has been able to avoid getting scars?

Does Henri take more after his mother or his father in his appearance? Are magenta eyes a common trait for werewolves to have? Or is Henri a bit of an oddball for having that eye colour?

I like to think he resembles more his extended family than directly his parents, although I'd imagine he's taking more after his father's side. All eye colors are possible in Hymnia worldsetting as a result of the presence of the demon realm and its folks that have totally added the stranger colors to the gene pool throughout the centuries, especially when it comes to other demon realm inhabitants. With humans they're a tad more rare, but for everyone else completely normal.

Also, it mentions that he is often mistaken to be a vampire due to his fashion choices. Is there a 'typical' manner of dress for werewolves?

Werewolves are usually associated with a heavy build and ragged exterior, which really is mostly the fault of humans telling such stories, and so those in who live in the human realm who aren't super familiar with werewolves tend to mistake him for one. And even among demon realm people the stereotype of physically big and strong werewolves is still alive, whereas vampires are associated with lighter build and more refined tastes, even though that's just a stereotype many don't live by.

Was there any particular reasoning behind that choice of lens color for Rory's glasses? Was it for palette reasons, to help his design read better, some symbolic reason, or just personal taste/trivia reasons?

I picked yellow lenses for his favourite pair of glasses for two reasons. The first being that it goes well with his and his best friend's colour palette. The other being he spends a lot of time looking at screens and yellow lenses can help reduce eyestrain.

It's mainly a two-part thing. She's technically on a collegiate sports team in the form of her college's basketball team but she's sort of a second-stringer because she isn't exactly the tallest or not clumsy. So it's actually a uniform she was assigned and wears because she actually does like the team and being on it, but doesn't get to do so all that often because, she's sort of a reserve player but also for the second reason. Alex is a ball of energy, she's hyperactive, she fast, she constantly in motion, and it seemed like even though she might just throw whatever was around on she'd pick something sporty/athletic as a result. It's far easier to move around in a jersey and shorts than a pair of jeans and a constrictive top for example.

Chance White Thanaturgist

I see Alex is a college student. Is there any reason you chose such an athletic-looking outfit for her main design?

Originally, their colors were a lot brighter, but I ordered a commission of them, and the way the artist had colored and shaded them looked so warm and peachy that I incorporated it into their design.
