Ask about the above OC's VISUAL DESIGN

Posted 5 years, 7 months ago (Edited 1 year, 6 months ago) by RadiantRaindragon

Hello and welcome!

This is a question game specifically for talking about characters' physical appearances. Their outfit? Their hairstyle? Their scars? An accessory they always wear or a sword they always carry? You get the idea.

15/02/2019:

To help clarify what kinds of questions are allowed in this game, I've made a list of correct and incorrect examples! Hopefully this should help out anyone who's stuck thinking of a question!

Format example:

Person 1's post: Why does Spike have a necklace of house keys? Edit: Adder got the scar during a criminal job that went a little wrong.

Person 2's post: Where did Adder get that scar from?

You can post IC if you want the next person to question a specific character, or you can post OOC and let them pick for themselves. If you post IC, try to stick to characters that have something noteworthy in their designs - while there's nothing wrong with more plain characters, it can be hard to think of an interesting question about them.

-Rules-

1. Stick to the theme of the game. Your post must include at least one question related to the character's design. You are allowed to ask non-design questions as extras.
2. Don't be rude or passive-aggressive towards other people or their characters in any way.
3. Wait for at least 3 people to post before you go again (unless over 12 hours have passed since the last post, then it's fair game for anyone).
4. All characters must have at least one, SFW art piece. This means characters with no art, or only 18+/filtered art, cannot be posted. You are allowed to skip people if they have no art or only 18+/filtered art.
5. Please do not post the same character repeatedly. This is to lessen repetition of the game.
6. Do not skip people (unless they're breaking Rule 4). Even if the above user has blocked you, that is not valid reason for skipping them.

I actively monitor the thread for rule-breaking, but if you think I missed something, please PM me and let me know.

If you break rules: Depending on the severity of the situation, I may either PM you with a warning or immediately ban you from the game. Regardless of severity, you can be banned if you repeatedly break rules.

AlleycatIrony

does mephi have that appearance due to his zodiac being capricorn? he also seems to have a more detailed form - and while his profile says that he's a shapeshifter, what makes him choose this form? is there a reason it looks so dragon-esque in appearance compared to his normal goat-like look?

louis is mostly the negative parts of myself tbh and i guess in his design he's a lot more careless, a little rough around the edges, literally a rat lmao
w/o going into too much detail he's mostly my attention seeking, risk taking, selfish kinda side, hence why i thought purrloin would be an adequate fit for my pokesona bc despite purrloin not being anywhere near my top favourite pokemon it's the one i feel represents me the most
much like my other sona, liam, he's got the whole 'pretty boy' look bc i also like to dress up and appear a bit more feminine than i should and it draws attention to me so i kinda threw that onto him as well
and as for things he is that i wish i could be - confident, definitely as my anxiety tends to hold me back from being as extroverted as i wanna be

What does your sona Louis represent about you ? Are they 100% you, a specific part of you/or represent certain emotions/personalities you have? Lastly, are their any parts of them that you've added because of how you wish you were, if so what ?

anyone from here https://toyhou.se/MilkKatze/characters (preferably charas closer to the top

I think the most important part of Strawberry Milk's design for me are her axolotl fins on the side of her face and tail cause that's what she's based on and what I think sets her apart from other chufas (the species she's from.) In terms of her rarity, she all of her species traits are common as I won the MYO slot in a contest. As for my design process the second time around(because my file corrupted the first time around), I just felt around for a pink base like an axolotl and add different pink markings til I was happy. Then I find a contrasting color to balance out the pink/red, I usually use a color that is complementary or the opposite hue of my palette, this time it was green cause it complements the light red or pink. I don't have a definate guide for how I color characters, I just try out absolutely everything and see how I like it, along with that, I also usually use color palettes and Mood Boards.

Nicholas Arayes Caine

Gosh I love Strawberry Milk's design!!! What would you consider to be the most crucial part of her design? Is her design considered "common" among her kind or does she stick out in some way or another? And also, as I love to ask this: what was your thought process behind her design?

He thinks they look really cool (which is honestly the main reason), but Nicholas has this thing going on where he likes to pretend to be a library spirit? Like he is well aware it's childish and he's just a human but it's his way of having fun in an otherwise miserable situation, and helps him cope to some degree.

I think they equally come from both sides! Moles run in their family a lot (which is something he shares with me, haha) but I'd say most of them come from his father's side and extended family, even if his father doesn't have very prominent freckles himself. I don't think Nicholas really cares about them all too much, like he is aware of the beauty ideal of nobles where freckles and moles are seen as impurities, but it's not really a thing many care about anymore, it's more like a dumb ideal from the past that is already starting to die out. I think his only worry is that the moles make him more recognizable and that people will know who he is when he is sneaking outside.

I love Koba's design so much! Is there any reason in particular you decided to go with the upside-down triangles for the pupils on him, or is it just for aesthetics?

------------------------------------

It is a particular knife! The main reason they stick to it though is because they've got a sheath of sorts made specifically for it in their jacket sleeve. And the bow's a functional bow! They put it on and tie it every time they put on that shirt in particular.

Guardy

Is that knife Chance always seems to carry a particular knife, or just any knife from their collection? Bonus question: Does the bow clip on, is it sewed onto the shirt or is that actually a functional bow?

Yup - just a design quirk to balance things out visually. I might put some sort of tassel there in the final version of his design, though.

RadiantRaindragon

Lionel - I noticed a little bell on the end of his hat. Wouldn't it get kind of annoying having bell noises follow you around everywhere?

I imagined the glowing markings to be a sort of feature of all of Tenebrous's family, since they're magical creatures and probably have odd markings/colours that normal cats don't have. So the rest of his siblings and parents had similar features. I think Tenebrous's might be a symbol of his electricity magic, since he usually generates electricity in his tail before firing it out at people/things. I don't think the potential owners would have been concerned by it, since all the siblings were the same - they were more worried by Ten wanting to set literally everything on fire. XD

Gretchen is.....fuckn gorgeous,,,,

What made you decide to put a thorny vine on him?  Also, how'd you settle on his color scheme/the patterning of his skin? (is there a lot of variety in snapdragons as a species or do they all look basically the same?  Were any particular plant/reptile species referenced when making them(i mean aside from the actual snapdragon flower)?

Alyss is just,,, really dedicated to her gothic aesthetic.  Like any self-respecting vampire should be.  You should see the inside of her house, it's 90% dramatic drapery.  You'd get lost in 6 layers of fabric & strangle yourself before you found a wall.  Lit exclusively by shitty gaslamps.  Chaise lounge in every room.  Muffled screaming & weird servants.  U know, goth shit.

Guardy

So, about Alyss. Her glasses and piercings say modern setting, the dress says vaguely-steampunk-ish Victorian; is that due to the setting, or is she just very dedicated to that particular look?

Answered the eye thing a page back, sorry for copy-paste:

I just really love eye motifs, especially when they're an opportunity to cram more gold accents into a design.
They also relate to his role as essentially a forest guardian - they occasionally flicker into existence throughout the forest, and he can more or less see with them.

The robe pattern is really just a pattern for added fancy detail. I mostly wanted to add some contrast.

Mostly me really wanting to make a character with antlers. The hair was pretty much a given, because I almost always put long hair on my dudes and dude-like entities, the color scheme was me playing around with light-colored things being creepy, because I like it. I also contrasted sleek, angular lines (robes, hair silhouette, eyes) with organic lines (ooze, antlers) because I think that always adds some fun tension. I suppose half of that goes back to design trends I've seen come and go over the last ten years; he probably also owes some of his aesthetic to Pokemon - mostly to Unown and the Alph Ruins.

 Xiro GnashingT33th

What inspired the little eyes that are floating around Herutaz, and do they do anything or are they just for his aesthetic? And on his robe (?) are the black markings also ooze or just markings? What inspired his design in the first place? >3>

I know it doesn't say anything about that in his bio yet, but that liquid was ORIGINALLY supposed to be like blood or something?? Of course it's not now, but that's where the idea came from! The liquid is now some kind of unknown, extremely corrosive substance that extremely decays living organism tissue should he desire to do so, but it stains everything else. He can control the substance nearly all the time (the only exception being when he's really sad, then it's involuntary) and he typically uses it to cleanly bury and/or destroy the corpses of deceased people.

Oisin Demonite

I've noticed that parts of Xiro's design included a black viscous substance. Is that some sort of material he has control over?

---
I did one drawing joking about it, but Oisin's wings are just for show! He can't actually fly, though I'm sure they would give him a little boost when jumping. His species of monster are collectors of objects by nature, so it fits that his form is a collection of animal parts to begin with!

Colin RadiantRaindragon

I noticed he has small feathered wings low on his body; can he actually fly, are they for some other purpose, or are they simply for show?

In my world all demons have pale (usually white) hair and oddly coloured eyes (often purple, red or pink), so as Colin is half-demon, he inherited those traits. That's the in-universe explanation. XD As for why I chose those colours, I was originally inspired by someone else's OC who had white hair, and wanted to make my own white-haired character. The purple eyes was just because I thought it looked cool and because I think I very slightly associate purple with 'evil' themes.
