General Thread for PSAs

Posted 8 years, 1 month ago (Edited 5 years, 7 months ago) by Vespisia

Hello!

8/9: New PSA added.

5/14: 2 new PSAs added.

4/8: New PSA posted and additional information on Squidribs added to relevant PSA.

It was suggested that there should perhaps be a general thread for PSAs which is a fine idea. A place that links to other PSAs and keep things organized.
You can link your threads/PSAs/etc, and I'll add them to the posts. :D
Please Note: I can only accept public PSAs. Anon PSAs are too much of a risk to accept, as they can be open to slander.

Things That Count for PSAs!
-Scams
-Illegally chargebacked (you did a commission, but person claims you never did, for instance)
-Being shifty on doing owed things (taking months on an icon for example, lack of contact or updates, etc)
-Tracing and profiting off of it...
-Etc...

Things That Don't Count!
-Someone has better art than you
-Rude behavior
-Subjective issues
-Dog ate your homework

Obviously, this is just the basic frame work. Each case is different. For instance, someone could go around harassing artists for art and customs, or for people to give up their adopts and whatnot, and that could almost certainly be considered for a PSA...

Of course, it would be great if no more PSAs occur, but in the case they do, I support people posting them because they keep the community safe and will link to them in this general thread. owo/

There'll be two posts, one for PSAs and one for resolved cases! ^^

EDIT: Received a response today, everything's good to go!

I’m a bit too weary to make a PSA but I commissioned someone on Furaffinity for two greyscale chibi couples back on February 16 for $34. I waited patiently for any updates until April 16th to where they said they didn’t have the ability to draw in that style anymore so I gave them another month to work on them..

May 19th.. I finally ask for a refund and get told on the 23rd that they cannot refund or draw for me and that they hope people commission them to “ maybe get the ball rolling.. “ .. They’re still taking icon commissions currently so I already know I have to cut the loss.

If you paid via Paypal and paid through goods and services, you should still be in the protection period to file a chargeback.

This is not fair to you at all and they could be scamming others. Try to get your money back if you can.

Thank you.

I’ve been a bit scared to do so since I’ve had artists threaten me if I did. I got an instant refund.

Of course. Don't let artist's bad practices and threats deter you from getting back your money that you rightfully are owed back for lack of service.

I'm glad you got your refund!

So I’m not sure of what to do about a commission I ordered ;;

I made a LF post in September 2023 and someone approached me saying that their friend could do it, this friend is overseas and I was told that they don’t use social media because they want to avoid having their work used by AI, it didn’t feel too suspicious because the person acting as a middleman seemed like a trustworthy artist and the friend’s art didn’t look off like AI at all

In October it was my turn, so I sent the details and payment, and got two WIPs in December (first a rough draft, then a sketch with some colouring started, which I asked for some adjustments on)

It was silent for a bit and I never got a revised WIP, so I figured I’d follow up in February, but coincidentally the day I was going to message them I surprisingly received the finished piece, but it needed a lot of corrections (such as part of the outfit being drawn oddly, a noticeable part of the outfit missing, and the background being completely changed from what was requested and shown in the draft)

They agreed to making the adjustments, then I followed up in March and was told that they would check with the artist, I never heard back after that and tried following up in April and this month with no response to either message

All of their socials have been inactive since March, but I sent an email on the 16th that I’m hoping they’ll respond to

I think I have a few days left for paypal’s buyer protection, I’m not sure if it’s worth filing for a partial chargeback? I’ve never needed to and I’d rather not since it feels wrong, but mostly just if that pushes them to respond to me? The timing of receiving the finished piece, changed bg, and other issues does make me feel a bit like the artist just turned it into a valentine’s piece to get it over with (it feels a bit rushed), so it’s just upsetting after paying $280 ;_;

sleepyamaurotine I don't think that you'd be in the wrong to file a partial chargeback, honestly. Between the lack of communication [especially since asking for revisions] and the fact that you were given a product that didn't fully meet the quality standard you paid for, I think that a partial refund is perfectly reasonable to pursue.

Best case, they're prompted to start communicating with you again and you can pay them back upon completion of the promised revisions. WORST case, the only bridge you're burning is with a middleman and an artist you don't plan on working with again.

Zeda Toobles Thank you for the advice!

Would $80 seem reasonable? $50 if that’s too much? I’m honestly not sure, I’m afraid I might be acting too nitpicky with the issues if either of you (or anyone else!) would mind taking a look at what I got versus the artist’s examples?
