Hello! Considering what happened to the old ai user masterlist, I thought I'd make a new one!

This masterlist is for any ai "artists" you have come across, whether they be on DeviantArt, Toyhouse, or any other site! Since these people are actively scamming people out of their hard-earned money, there needs to be a list so people can't get scammed. Even if they are using their ai "art" for personal use, they are still hurting actual artists because the ai uses people's uncredited art (for full explanation see here, not my explanation but it explains really well)!

I am aware that the user who made the old psa thread was blackmailed with doxxing, but I have taken measures to prevent that. I will keep this thread open as long as I possibly can. Thanks for the help, everyone!

I will keep this masterlist updated myself with links below. Feel free to ctrl+f to see if a scammer you've found is listed already or not. Thanks!<3

 DEVIANTART:
-DA has a 500 max blocklist, so keep this in mind while blocking
-Use the Tag Blocker on DA (Account Settings -> Browsing -> Muted Tags) You should select "Mute AI" but ALSO you should type in AI tags such as "aiadopt" "aiadoptable" "aiadoptables" "ai_adopt" "ai_art" "ai" "midjourney" "artbreeder" "(insert ai name)"

- Keep watch for tags on like AI/midjourney/Artbreeder/(insert AI name) character tag through character browsing system on TH

Extension:
This can help weed out ai and triggering content, too!
https://rthaut.github.io/deviantART-Filter/

This can sometimes detect ai images (not 100% accurate):

https://hivemoderation.com/ai-generated-content-detection

Before Buying on DA:
- Check account age (AI only gained popularity in 2020ish so, older than that is less likely, HOWEVER, some older artists have turned to AI)
- Check Deviation Count (Submitting many many adopts every day)
- Consider the Deviation's name (If it's a number "Adopt 3838" or generic "Elf Lady Adopt" "Anime Girl Adopt" it should be suspect)
- Check if the comments are turned off. (AI artists receive a lot of hate so they turn these off)
- Check the tags on their adopt (Both when for sale and after sale, some artists will only add "aiadopt" AFTER the sale is made.
- Check profile for any signs of "Ai Artist" (Do they have "AI" in their name? their profile?
- Check disclaimers/journals/tos (Some AI artists will tell you "you understand it's AI")
- Look for "Pity Party" context ( "Woe is me, I'm just a little guy trying to make beautiful adopts, please don't harass me, please just block me!")

- Check the price. Some will overprice, but most will charge $5 for a detailed ref sheet. If it was made by a real person they wouldn't be charging so little.

- If it is an older account, see if their older artworks match what their current style is and if it would be reasonable for their style to have changed so much.

- Do they have more social media rather than dA? Most artists have multiple accounts, but AI artists usually don't.

- "I used ai for inspiration and drew it myself" is a red flag, they almost never drew it themselves (and you can tell)

- "You don´t need to credit me" is another.

- Deleting adopts after they sold is strange, most artists will mark them as sold instead of deleting them.

I did see some comments talking about the copywrite thing, so I will echo it a bit here. "Art" produced via AI cannot be filed under copywrite. It is free to use, regardless if you or someone you know typed out the prompt and had it generated. Therefore art that is created via AI can be taken freely. So buying an "adopt" that is generated means that, sure, you paid money for it, but anyone can use that adopt's generated image for whatever they want and there is nothing you can do about it. You are better off tossing your money in a fire pit rather than buying an AI generated piece of art.

"Only human-made creations are eligible for copyright." Typing a prompt into a generator that has been trained on billions of images without the consent of artists is not a human made creation. I wanted to link the literal federal register here as proof so people can't claim something fresh out of an AI generator can be protected under copywrite.

https://www.artnews.com/art-news/news/ai-generator-art-text-us-copyright-policy-1234661683/

https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2023/03/16/2023-05321/copyright-registration-guidance-works-containing-material-generated-by-artificial-intelligence

Thanks for this thread. Please don't ping me though!

Pankkitty

^^This just echoes what I had said. Not only do both of those links only address AI copywrite in the US, but from the federal register linked: "Individuals who use AI technology in creating a work may claim copyright protection for their own contributions to that work." So if the 'art' is made with someone's own work, or has been edited by hand, it would/could be eligible for copywrite. Other countries also have allowed copywrite of things that haven't been edited. I'm pretty neutral about the AI debate but encouraging theft with info that is purposefully misleading while shouting that theft is wrong sounds pretty hypocritical to me, and yet I've seen it all over the place.
Also not looking for pings, just filling in the rest of the information that was left out of the post above.

Epsilon

No. Lol.

As my words stated above, Pankitty, Artwork fresh out of an AI generator is NOT copy writable. But if someone decides to completely alter it BY HAND, then yes, it can be. That was not the point. This thread isn't about art that is being used by artists to "enhance" their work. There is nothing misleading about it. No one is encouraging theft here, least not myself. I am cautioning against the purchase of this kind of art because if it IS stolen, there is nothing you can do about it. You take that risk of throwing away your money by buying AI crap. If the person you buy an AI adopt from decides to sell it again, you can't do anything about it. It's that simple.

This thread isn't about modifying AI art. It is about "artists" claiming their work regurgitated out of an AI generator is "art" along with their generated Adoptables. Then selling it. People should avoid that. As these people never edit the work or build off it in any way.

This website is hosted out of the USA. Therefore it follows the laws of the USA as far as I am aware. What other countries do about their laws doesn't really matter.

The hypocritical thing here is using AI art in general in any capacity as it is created through the abuse of artists. The generators themselves used datascraping to steal the works of thousands of artists without their consent to allow them to generate what they can now. So using it is mostly a morality debate. Which this thread is not about. It's probably best to keep it on topic:

Artists selling AI generated Adopts or claiming AI art is theirs should be avoided. Especially if they don't tag it properly. Having a list of who to avoid is useful so you don't get scammed.

Pankkitty

It was specifically pointed out that "art that is created via AI can be taken freely" and that it is "free to use" with no modifier of 'if it hasn't been edited or created with someone's own work' and/or 'if it's posted to a US-based site'. That being said in response to posts that were a reply to someone on this thread saying they were going to 'steal' AI designs comes off as encouraging of said 'stealing' even if not directly or intentionally, which is why I replied to add in the rest of the information that wasn't shared. The insinuation of encouraging theft was a generalization of these types of posts/the reaction to them rather than pointed at you, though I have no doubt many people would see that post, and your official-looking sources, and just go with it without bothering to look into the information you're sharing themselves to see the other half of it. Even things like saying a piece has to be 'completely altered' when in reality, even a small by-hand change means that part of a piece can't be used by someone else, can be taken by others as 'well I'm free to take this since there's clearly some AI involved even though there's edits'. On the other hand, AI 'artists' could also use my post without yours to back up their views. Whether anyone agrees or disagrees with AI in whatever use, the full information needs to be spread to both sides instead of being cherry-picked by either half. /nm

Imo people who are advocating for/participating in the 'theft' of AI stuff need to be added to this list as well, as it's clear they're just as bad/worse. If you consider AI ethically fine, these people are breaking the general code between artists to take others' designs. If you consider AI unethical, these people are taking a disgusting high ground while using the same ill-gotten images/designs as the 'artists'. And yes, I agree that anyone that isn't disclosing or tagging AI as such, especially if selling, should have their accounts banned. That's extremely scummy and trashy.

Edit: Looks like they have a ton of AI characters. A comment on their page is advising them not to sell AI characters and they responded saying they aren't selling them and will change the folder name.

CGletter uses AI for adoptables, says so in every deviation description that they are AI generated and is also tagged as such!

Sorry for the delay, added up to here!

Freki

I don't think it's fair to put the user Algiz_ on the list. First of all... The sprite in the top left corner was made with an AI called NokemonAI and it just creates Pokèmon 3D sprites not as bad as other AI who steal art... The design they made was labeled as AI since they designed the Pokèmon based what the outcome was and even changed a lot. A lot of people used NokemonAI to get inspired to create adopts. Same is the case here. Just look at the 3D sprite in the left corner. The art itself isn't AI. They drew it themselve.

Only this little thing is the AI part. It's to show how they got the inspiration. It doesn't even look much like the finished one in shape.
