[4/30] Code of Conduct Discussion

Posted 7 years, 11 days ago (Edited 6 years, 9 months ago) by admin

[4/30] We have updated the Code of Conduct to reflect the new rules as discussed on this thread.

We'll be leaving this thread up to take further suggestions and feedback on the rules in the future, as well as for keeping track of our history of changes to the COC, so please let us know either via this thread, or via the ticket desk or PM if you have any thoughts or concerns.

[4/30] Major changes:

  • We will now be enforcing behavioural conduct rules: this includes locking and deleting threads or characters which are overly hostile or aggressive.
  • NSFW artwork containing characters which are described as under 18 or described as appearing under 18 (or the equivalent age of adulthood in non-human species) are now prohibited. Note that this includes gratuitous violence towards minors which is presented as sexual or fetishised.
  • NSFW now has been separated into different content filter categories - please read up and let us know if you have any suggestions for further categorisation.
  • We may add content warnings to characters or forum posts that contain sensitive or offensive content, please don't remove these unless you also revise the content.
  • Accounts which contain nothing but, or a large ratio of parody or satire characters will have their Listing privileges revoked. Hateful or insulting satire is now strictly prohibited.
  • Public blacklisting is now explicitly allowed, albeit with restrictions on tone.
  • Report trolling/baiting is now disallowed.
  • Some information was added on how to properly report a scam - unfortunately a large quantity of tickets we can't do anything with currently because we lack sufficient evidence to take action.

Users will not incur retroactive warnings or account sanctions for any changes made to the Code of Conduct, but we will be going through and removing any old content that violates the new rules.

Rumiya If it's drawn in an overly sexual manner like some people do, then yes, even male nipples should be tagged as NSFW. Some people just don't like seeing things that are sexual. Just because one person doesn't find something sexual doesn't mean it isn't. Most people consider breasts to be a sexual thing, so it should be tagged NSFW. NSFW does not just mean sexual. It should literally be seen as "objectionable in the workplace." If it isn't safe for your boss or your kids to see, tag it.

tbh i don't think anyone could walk into a job with their shirt off, so that scenario is already invalid from the start LOL

if you want both against the rules, fine. i just don't want something i don't want to see-- on my inbox where i literally can't flag it myself.

insyncricy While I do agree breasts are not inherently sexual in the way genitalia is... I do think that it falls under NSFW as if you were spotted browsing TH (in a workspace) and boobs pop up.. most people might be in a bit of trouble there. And same goes for younger members who may be at risk in getting in trouble when their parents walk in on them browsing TH and there are breasts. I guess what I mean to say is till this becomes acceptable commonplace, I do think its fair to label it as NSFW as.. it isn't safe to view at work.

Edit: On this note, I wouldn't mind keeping it equal though.

@anahit thank you for being respectful! i agree, i was raised in a society to believe that breasts are sexual, as well as food for infants. i don't appreciate seeing a nude female where i did not ask for it, and it makes me uncomfortable for other personal reasons. i agree with you fully (:

kavaro Well my other thing didn't ping, but I just want you to know I agree with you. I don't particularly like seeing it either. It isn't that hard to be conscientious and tag something, even if you don't personally agree it's NSFW, you know? We're a community, so people should consider other people. I don't find my gore pieces objectionable, but I tagged them NSFW because other people do...

@ghoulongtea thank you! it is just a thing to do out of consideration and decency (pretty much routine for me anyway!), i shouldn't have to explain why it makes me uncomfortable and literally triggers a form of anxiety/panic every time :')

insyncricy

@VENOMOUSWOLF I don't necessarily disagree they couldn't fall under 'nsfw'. I was mostly disagreeing with 'they are sexual organs', which they are most certainly not.

I am ammending my official opinion to 'if female nipples are NSFW, so are male nipples'. For at least a dozen reasons, the least of which is equality.

LatteDraws

insyncricy Oh yea in that case I definitely agree with you there ^^!

"Hate or insults directed towards other users or their creations, artwork or designs. Making comments about your preferences is fine, just don't target specific users with it. "I don't like starry blue designs" is OK. "I don't like all the starry blue characters on the Popular Characters page today" is bad, because it can be hurtful to the people who see it"

THANK YOU!! thank you for adding it. im disgusted with how toxic the forums have been and seeing people make fun of specific characters where they could see it. this rule is VERy appreciated.

Hiyame Any sexual or sexualised references or depictions of under aged characters will be removed - outside of that, non-sexual depictions of pedophilic relationships may still fall under this rule if it's fetishised or sexually suggestive, so I would exercise caution. I don't want to completely disallow references to pedophilia as I don't think there's an issue with attempting a respectful representation of child abuse as part of a character's history, but speaking from a personal perspective, positive or romanticised depictions of pedophilia is really not something that I want to see represented or hosted on TH.

For now, we would strongly recommend highly visible content warnings for pedophilia and child abuse to be added to the top of the character's page, and we'll look at more stricter rules in the future if we find the issue's pervasive or toxic. If you're worried about how your characters might be received and think they may be hurtful or triggering to other users, there's also the option of making them hidden / authorized users only, or Unlisting them. As long as you're respectful in the production of your content and thoughtful about how it effects the people who're exposed to it I don't think there should be any issues!

kavaro Hiyame We're currently leaning towards giving any nipples on a humanoid creature at all a blanket NSFW status regardless of sex. The best compromise would be different NSFW tags that people can filter by (e.g. nudity, explicit nudity, implied sexual content, explicit sexual content, explicit gore) but that's probably something that'll have to wait for the recode unfortunately...

admin that would be amazing, thank you!! it means a lot that you guys are even considering it (: for now, should we just keep reporting unflagged images?

admin

kavaro Yes, please keep reporting them and we'll flag them as we go - thank you for your patience!
