[4/30] Code of Conduct Discussion

Posted 7 years, 11 days ago (Edited 6 years, 9 months ago) by admin

[4/30] We have updated the Code of Conduct to reflect the new rules as discussed on this thread.

We'll be leaving this thread up to take further suggestions and feedback on the rules in the future, as well as for keeping track of our history of changes to the COC, so please let us know either via this thread, or via the ticket desk or PM if you have any thoughts or concerns.

[4/30] Major changes:

  • We will now be enforcing behavioural conduct rules: this includes locking and deleting threads or characters which are overly hostile or aggressive.
  • NSFW artwork containing characters which are described as under 18 or described as appearing under 18 (or the equivalent age of adulthood in non-human species) are now prohibited. Note that this includes gratuitous violence towards minors which is presented as sexual or fetishised.
  • NSFW now has been separated into different content filter categories - please read up and let us know if you have any suggestions for further categorisation.
  • We may add content warnings to characters or forum posts that contain sensitive or offensive content, please don't remove these unless you also revise the content.
  • Accounts which contain nothing but, or a large ratio of parody or satire characters will have their Listing privileges revoked. Hateful or insulting satire is now strictly prohibited.
  • Public blacklisting is now explicitly allowed, albeit with restrictions on tone.
  • Report trolling/baiting is now disallowed.
  • Some information was added on how to properly report a scam - unfortunately a large quantity of tickets we can't do anything with currently because we lack sufficient evidence to take action.

Users will not incur retroactive warnings or account sanctions for any changes made to the Code of Conduct, but we will be going through and removing any old content that violates the new rules.

Hey! Quick question admin, if you do tag our OCs for content can you pls have an obvious tag such as "ADMIN ONLY: HOMOPHOBIA" or smth? Because it would be helpful to know when I tag something versus one of your teams

Gabriel

dudes, relax about the nips. it's all gonna be okay.

The admin clarified it is fine to have characters that are bigots as there certainly is a difference in having a homophobic character versus promoting a homophobic message ( such as hate art/hate character... but having homophobic/racists etc characters can help promote positive messages on these issues such as Zootopia on prejudice.... as oppose to something like the black crows on Disney.) It would be pretty boring if everyone was good 8u;! As for 'glorified' murderers... but I do think the main difference here is societal issues. Issues like LGBT rights are still up in the air .... while murder is pretttty much accepted to be the worst thing you can do to someone. Issues like Homophobia are still all too common, where many people of the LGBT community have had negative experiences from homophobia... but not all to many people have had experiences with someone being murdered. So long as your character isn't an attack on a group of people.

But I do agree, tagging for sensitive ideologies doesn't seem like an all around bad idea.

admin question about the spamming thing- how does this affect bumping threads? (specifically trade/sale ones)

Shade

Yes, I'm with the person on the last page.

Do butts, no genitalia or holes shown, count as Mild or Explicit?

Seems like there a lot of positive changes going on!

At the same time, realistically, no one is going to get in trouble at work for seeing male nipples. Regardless on your take on this double standard the bottom line male nipples aren't the pair that's stigmatized. Censoring them doesn't actually solve the double standard as the goal is two have both allowed. Obviously this site doesn't really have an impact that issue. There isn't a point in having them labeled "nsfw" when they’re not actually unsafe for work.

admin "show (some tag) behind tag" --> pls make it so I have to click the image to see the full/watermarked thing like it used to be when you have NSFW marked to not show in your activity feed.

Because I had set everything to show behind tag... and accidentally gave a bunch of high schoolers a huge shock with a gore image whixh was tagged correctly...

ElithianFox

clockrobber This!

It's important to remember that the reason why is because of cultural connotation. We see nipples on swollen breasts as different from nipples on flat breasts because of the history of the two (which by the way, IS a good way to differentiate between male and female breasts!), and nipples on flat breasts are culturally accepted, which is what this comes down to. The general idea is that if modern day Disney dares show it in full view of the child viewer, it can be considered SFW.

a random thought i guess, because in essence, toyhouse is used as a repository for reference images of characters. commissioner artists that are not part of toyhouse are linked profiles to be able to access character references. if said character references happen to have nipples and have to be tagged as mild nudity, they're then completely invisible to anyone not logged into TH. it isn't feasible to assume that every person would want to make a toyhouse account just to see certain people's images. and as easy as it would be to just also supplement said reference with a censored version, some may not want to for a myriad of reasons. hotlinking the images almost defeats the purpose of having a publicly visible character profile at all.

i think at least for the case of mild nudity, rather than being completely invisible to persons logged out from the site, they should have a click-through with a warning banner. maybe even a blurred out thumbnail as well so they can at least vaguely discern that the image is actually reference material or just plain titties/mitties hanging out.

I'm basically going to be repeating vergil but with an extra suggestion:

regarding #nipplegate, my only suggestion is not to make the default view of marked materials "not visible" for logged out users. I'm actually not sure if that's the case now, but in the event of commissioning users or displaying my characters to people off-site, I like to have the whole profile + images, including my references and what have you -- because It's such a hassle to have to section up my profile into blurp pastes and links in a note when I can just link the one dang thing. I think the nsfw marker (possibly bigger, or even centered?) on images as a default, and maybe even a popup warning would be better.

so, like, an example would be:

Logged in user A hands their character profile link to logged out user B. Logged out user B sees a reference with the nsfw tag, goes to click on it, and gets a popup that says "The following material contains sensitive content: [he nips r showin]" and they have the option to cancel or continue to the full sized image. It might be excessive but I believe it's better than what it is now.

@SHADOWKITTY777 It's not censorship, it's a filter. You're being asked to tag things in a very simple manner so that people who don't want to see content at each tier can hide them if they personally want to (for one of any of the dozens of reasons listed in this thread). This has nothing at all to do with 'censorship'. Censoring would be if they were removing content to keep it from being viewed, that's very, very different. And even then, it's their website, they have the right to do that, too. Buuuuut that's not what's happening.

vergil That is an excellent suggestion!

@ANAHIT Yes, they should be tagged. It doesn't matter if it's sexual or not, the tag explitictly say 'mild nudity'. Again, if YOU want to see shirtless males, absolutely set the filter accordingly for yourself. The rules are there so that other people can set their preferences. Nobody said anywhere 'you can't have topless male characters anymore!!', they told you to tag them. And if your settings allow you to see them, then no content is being blocked from you! Super easy win-win.

Earl all well and good- but I really want gore to remain a separate tag!!! I don't mind charas doin the do or whatever, but seeing guts makes me want to barf x.x
