Chapter 6 (2021)

Pyrotechnics

An outdoor concert.

Even though it was just another date, my anxiety wouldn’t let me relax. We sat on a picnic blanket as Jean got lost in the music, whereas I could barely hear a thing.

I lifted my hand slightly, staring at the level of redness from the branch I’d been leaning on. I shuffled some more, unable to get comfortable. There were so many streamers dancing with the stars above me, and I didn’t know what to focus on. I felt like I could pass out at any second.

The weather was pleasantly cooler than earlier, but I sat here overheating. I stared at my boyfriend, whose long hair blew in the wind. Despite only wearing a tank top and jeans, he looked like a model.

I considered reaching my hand out to touch the brunet, but I couldn’t help but just gaze at him as he sang along with the performers. Eventually, his pink eyes met mine.

“You good?” He yelled over the band, grinning.

I nodded as Jean went back to singing loud and flat, interlacing his fingers with mine, which pulled me a little closer to him.

But I still felt like I could barely hear the music. Sure, I knew every word, riff, and solo, but all I could focus on was him. His eyes reflected the colors of the stage lights as he bobbed back and forth, his hair filled with rainbow confetti.

In the distance, I saw the Ferris wheel we had ridden earlier when the sun still illuminated the sky.

What was wrong with me?

We had been listening to this band since we were kids. We had CDs, T-shirts, and had been dying to see them in concert since Day 1. I knew almost all the words for every song and album, yet here I was, lost.

Summer was coming to an end, and as with every year, I started getting a bit down. I was trying to live in the moment—hell Jean and I were at this concert to make the best of the time we had left. Plus, I doubt they would come back to perform in Pennsylvania anytime soon.

Summer was our season. We would spend so much time together and make such good memories, all the way back to when we were middle schoolers.

But I think this was the last time we’d really be free.

Jean had been staying at my apartment since the spring, and I got so used to waking up next to him. Yet, he was finally about to go to college. He’d move on campus, get a roommate, and make tons of friends. No doubt he’d be too boggled with schoolwork to see me and given that I would be starting my last semester, I was in the same boat.

Penn State was only an hour away, but when you could be spending that hour studying instead of stuck in traffic, it’d feel like a lot.

It was like I was about to lose him again, but this time I knew it was coming. I had time to prepare, but I didn’t know how to. All I wanted to do was hold onto him and never let go.

“Earth to Carter.”

My ears perked up and I flinched, making awkward eye contact with my boyfriend, who had his other hand on my thigh.

“Dude?” Jean looked a bit frazzled, and I noticed the band had stopped playing for a few minutes. He waved his hand in front of my face.

“W-What?” I sputtered, swallowing the lump in my throat.

He furrowed his brows. “Dude, are you okay? You seem…kinda out of it. I thought you wanted to do this.”

I sat up straight. “Huh? Oh, I’m fine—promise!”

Jean chuckled awkwardly. “Seriously? They’ve gone through like five songs already, and you haven’t sung once! And trust me, I would know—you’ve got like the best voice here.” He leaned into me a bit, smirking as some hair fell into his face.

I brushed it out of his eyes. “S-Shut up, I’m fine.”

“If you say so.” He smiled and looked around at the crowd. “Well, I’m gonna get some snacks while they’re taking a break. I’ll be back.”

I nodded as Jean kissed me softly, but I couldn’t help but lean into him as he pulled away. He chuckled a bit before ruffling my hair and getting up. I watched as he disappeared into the crowd with an exhale, placing my face on my knees. I eventually fell back onto the blanket and tried to steady my breathing.

I’m sure Jean would understand if I told him, but the uncertainty regarding his feelings made me reluctant to speak up. He could feel the same way, but maybe he didn’t walk to talk about it, and I didn’t wanna ruin this night. It was supposed to be a breather but we still had work on Monday, and the brunet had to start collecting stuff for his dorm.

Fuck.

I just needed to stop thinking about it, but I already missed him despite him still being around. I still had a few weeks and I needed to make the most of them.

When I opened my eyes, Jean was peering over me, covered in glow sticks.

“Sup.”

He sat back down beside me, his neon bracelets and necklaces blinding me as the sun set. He organized some snacks and handed me some of his new jewelry.

“Did y’know there’s gonna be fireworks after this?” He beamed as I ate some chips, fiddling to hook the bracelet with that weird little plastic loop.

“Wait, really?”

Jean nodded and helped me out, laughing a little. “Yeah, they were talking about it at the stands! They usually do fourth of July fireworks here too, but it rained all week so there’s gonna be even more for the band!”

I heard the mic squeal for a second before the vocalist started again, signaling that another song was coming.

“Well, they deserve it! This is the greatest group I’ve ever heard live.”

He smiled at me as I finished eating. “Exactly!”

Quickly, I heard the mini guitar riff in the beginning, and Jean and I grinned at each other as the drums joined in. He jumped to his feet, as did others as our favorite song started playing. My brain started fogging again, but Jean pulled me up, singing along with the biggest smile on his face.

His rosy cheeks matched his eyes, and I couldn’t look away as we danced hand in hand. I was taking so many mental pictures of this moment, and I started tearing up, despite my bubbly expression. Nonetheless, I recited all the lyrics to my favorite song with my favorite person.

Jean jumped up and down to the beat during the bridge as confetti flew in and out of his hair, and as I mimicked him, I spotted some rainbow strands fall out of mine.

The breeze wasn’t strong enough to cool me down as we danced, but I’ve never minded getting heated up by Jean. It was weird however, for his hands to be warm for once, but it was comforting.

Jean always felt like home, no matter where we were. School, summer camp, vacation—as long as he was with me, I was at ease. But when he left for college, would my apartment feel like home anymore?

The song faded into another one of our favorites, and I continued smiling at my boyfriend, but his expression changed.

“C-Carter? Oi, are you okay?!”

“Huh?”

The freckled boy wiped my face, and it was just then that I realized that tears had been falling. He stopped jumping around so much and held me, yet I lightly pushed him away even though all I wanted to do was latch onto him for eternity.

“I’m fine! I’m just really happy!”

Jean looked at me, his face full of worry as my brain started tuning out the band again.

“Dude, seriously—they’re just tears of joy!”

“I don’t believe you.” He said flatly, and I gulped.

I stepped away from him a bit and attempted to go back to dancing and singing, but I ended up uncoordinated as Jean watched me for a minute. I heard him sigh, and he awkwardly joined me, us both playing off the weird interaction. We went back to jamming out and Jean lit up again, but out of the corner of my eye, I saw him checking on me.

Still, I used all my brainpower to focus on the band and all the greatest songs I’d heard in my life. This was the best date I’d been on in forever, though every outing with Jean was always unmatched.

I refused to ruin it. I’d dreamed of seeing this band with him ever since we were young, and the bonus was that he wasn’t just my best friend but that he was my boyfriend too.

Every few songs, Jean and I would drink some water and continue singing our hearts out with everyone around us. The sun had set, and it was mesmerizing to see his eyes illuminating the area with his glowsticks.

Then, as the group finished their last song and the crowd cheered, the fireworks started, and I froze, unable to look away. Jean laughed at my reaction and eventually sat back down before I awkwardly scooted closer to the brunet, who of course didn’t mind.

He wrapped his arm around me and kissed my neck.

“Hey,” He began softly. “Are you really okay? You know you can talk to me, Carter.”

I glanced at him, red-faced from both exhaustion and embarrassment. When I didn’t respond, he just laid his head on my shoulder and held my hand. I tensed up as he rubbed my fingers, despite how nice it felt.

The two of us stayed quiet as we watched the bright bursts of color stretch across the sky. I felt like I was dreaming, but even after a while of sitting, my heart rate never slowed.

I squeezed Jean’s hand as the fireworks continued.

“I love you.” I said, though it was perfectly muffled by one of the colorful explosions.

Jean looked up. “Hm?”

I let go of his hand and tried to wipe some sweat off on my shorts.

“N-Nothing! Never mind!” While half of my speech was muffled by several more fireworks, Jean just laughed.

My stomach turned a bit, but at the same time, he looked so beautiful when he laughed. I loved seeing that giant grin of his, especially when it was directed at me. He looked so alluring in the bright lights, especially when I saw the streams of color reflect in his eyes.

God.

He was a work of art.

As I gazed at him, he continued snickering and it made me smile a little.

“What?”

I shook my head. “It’s nothing,” I muttered.

He laughed harder, then raised his voice. “What!?”

I chuckled as he leaned into me, kissing my ear before continuing. “If you wanna talk, we oughta go someplace else where we can actually hear one another!”

I blushed as he kept his face close to mine. “N-No, it’s fine! I really wasn’t saying anything!”

There was another explosion, and I cleared my throat, trying to speak louder, which was something I was never too good at doing.

“Don’t worry about it!”

Jean snickered. “You sure? I swore you said something!” He scratched his head and leaned back. “Er, maybe my ears are just messed up from all that fuckin’ rock music.”

I gulped. “N-No, I just said I love you.”

He turned back to me after being illuminated by another firecracker.

“Huh?!”

I breathed in sharply. “I said I love you!” I shouted, just as there was a pause in the explosions.

His face lit up and he paused as I instantly felt exposed. We both got embarrassed before Jean merely combed his hair back, beaming.

“I love you too!”

I messed with my curls, facing the fireworks again to avoid eye contact. I could feel his eyes on me and maybe a few more. God, that was so loud—I think the other people around me heard.

‘I love you’ comes so easy for like it’s some amazing catchphrase, but I trip over my words whenever I try and express the same thing through words. It was unfair, especially since I loved him to pieces.

He constantly says, ‘I love you more,’ but I could exceed that.

Jean kissed my cheek, still gazing at me as I glanced over with a smirk.

“H-Hi.” I stammered.

He snickered. “Hey.”

He kept his fingers under my chin, caressing my beard as I failed to look away, despite my nerves.

“W-What?”

Jean shrugged before leaning back in and giving me a soft kiss as the sky morphed into another color. I lingered when he pulled again.

He played with my hair before looking me over.

“Hey, I’m sure we can see the fireworks from anywhere around here,” He glanced away. “We could go back to my truck or something where it’s quieter. Or am I the only one who hears that ringing…”

I blinked slowly. “Uh, sure. That’s fine.”

After letting let go of me, we bundled our items into our blanket before weaving through various couples and friend groups while leaving the field. Jean smiled the moment my fingers brushed against his and I grabbed his hand. I quickly returned the expression as the orange glint in his eyes compelled me to hold him tighter.

As we got back to the concessions, he stopped by the cotton candy stand. I chuckled since the humidity made his hair the same volume as the pink cloud.

“Haven’t you already had like three of those?”

The brunet smirked and ripped off a cloud, shoving it into my mouth as I snorted.

“Shush.” He grabbed my hand back and kept walking.

“Anyway,” He continued. “I think they’re closing up stands, so do you want anything else?”

I looked around at the food and fair games, quickly locking eyes on a giant banana plush that hung from one of the awnings. Jean immediately saw where I was looking and scoffed.

“Come on, really?”

I smiled.

“You already have a banana costume! We both do!”

I started dragging him over. “He can be my banana son!”

“I thought Lloyd was your banana son—he bleached his hair after all! Dandelion lookin’ headass…” He mumbled under his breath.

I laughed while paying the carnie and started trying to shoot the targets as Jean held our stuff, devouring his cotton candy while happily watching me. After about five tries, I heard him scoff, and he walked over to me, handing me our stuff.

“Here,” He said and gave the guy some more money, grabbing the gun as he leaned on the counter like a sniper.

I stood there dumbfounded as he shot all but one target, to which he groaned with a curse after realizing.

“Ugh, whatever. That should be enough for one of the giant prizes, yeah?”

The man chuckled. “You have to hit them all, Pretty Boy, but you’ll probably end up broke if you keep trying.”

Jean raised an eyebrow. “You don’t think I can hit them all?”

I held back my laughter while eating the rest of his cotton candy as he grabbed the gun again, effortlessly shooting all the targets within the time limit.

The worker rolled his eyes and grabbed the giant banana, which Jean traded for me for the rest of our junk. Now we had an army of all the lesser prizes.

“Oh my god, it’s so cute!!”

“Yet, you pay me back by eating all of my cotton candy?” He laughed and nudged me. “Rude.”

There was an awkward silence, and then we both cackled.

“You can keep all the tiny plushies! You won me the banana, and uh, I won you that eagle and the little fox, and I think that’s Picakchu?” I mumbled, analyzing my prizes as we walked past the other stands.

Jean laughed and I stepped close enough to him so that our arms would occasionally brush against one another’s since we had too much stuff to hold hands.

“Yeah, yeah. Now what?”

I shrugged. “Well, we rode most of the rides earlier.”

“You want any other prizes?”

I scanned the fair and shook my head. “You?”

“Nah, not unless you’re one of the options.”

I flushed red and Jean laughed. “S-Shut up, dude!” I rolled my eyes while gesturing to our rings. “Technically you’ve already won me anyway, right?”

Jean shrugged. “I suppose you’re right. And hey, I didn’t even have to shoot anything!” He smirked at me. “Not to say that I wouldn’t shoot anything for you.”

I snickered awkwardly, knowing he was completely honest, whether that be shooting an object or shooting a person. I’d never seen him with a gun but I bet his uncle taught him how to shoot. He contained many odd skills.

I continued to watch the fireworks as we weaved through all the games, searching for where Jean parked. Now that it was dark, I’d lost my landmarks. Meanwhile the brunet kept spamming his keys in hopes of finding it quicker. I just feared that someone else would before us and raid his car.

“There it is!” Jean suddenly beamed, now running towards his truck which brought me back to reality as I attempted to chase after him.

He threw his stuff in the back and I followed his lead, glancing at him afterward.

“Uh, are we going home now? Like, back to my place?”

“I didn’t think so!” Jean chuckled. “My head was just a little throbby, and I was tired of carrying all that junk.”

He locked his truck, and I awkwardly followed him on a small pathway till we came across a patio significantly higher on the hill than where we were previously sitting. The fireworks were still illuminating the sky, but I could hear myself think for once.

Jean sat down and gestured for me to join him as I got comfortable on the wood planks once he placed the blanket back down.

“See, isn’t this better? No crowd either!”

I nodded awkwardly.

“I mean, uh. Well, I just assumed you were maybe uncomfortable from all the people.”

I shrugged, staring at the sky as Jean kept his focus on me.

“Hey, look at me.” He said softly, and I blushed after realizing how close our faces were since he had scooted much closer to me while I was out of it.

He rubbed my cheek. “What’s wrong?”

I brushed his hand off, but he put it back. “Nothing, I’m sorry. I guess I’m just tired.”

“Carter.”

I chuckled harshly. “Everything’s fine—I don’t wanna ruin the mood.”

He squinted. “You’re not gonna ruin the mood. If anything, you’ll make it better. I love talking to you, dude.”

I sighed, tensing up my body. “I just wish we had more time together before you had to go. The end of August is right around the corner, and I hate it.”

Jean placed his hand on my back, smiling, though I could it bothered him too. “Yeah, I know what you mean. I keep trying not to think about it, but denial won’t make it any easier later on, right?”

“Y-Yeah.”

The brunet consoled me as I played with my glow bracelet. I took some deep breaths, but they didn’t help. My hands started trembling like earlier, and it was pissing me off.

A giant firework set off just as a tear rolled down my face and I muttered, “I don’t wanna lose you again.”

Jean blushed as still heard me.

“What? Y-You’re not gonna lose me, Carter! Even if I’m at a different college, I’ll still be your boyfriend, and I’ll try and visit you and do everything I can to make it still seem like I’m nearby!”

“But what if you find someone better than me?!” I cried harder. “What if you make a ton of new friends and leave me and Aaron and Blair behind?”

Jean stiffened, his eyes swirling between blue and red. “I won’t! No one can replace you guys!”

I looked down, and he grabbed my face. “Carter, c’mon!”

“I don’t know what I’m gonna do without you! I was so used to living right next door to you and then I got used to waking up next to your stupid handsome face! What the fuck am I supposed to do now?!”

Jean scanned the area anxiously as the fireworks continued, my heart rate increasing with each one. I could tell he was at a loss for words as he tried to wipe my face.

“I… I don’t know.”

I glanced at him.

“But,” He continued. “I’ll always call you and text you, and we can plan things in advance to hang out, right? I’ll invite you to stuff at my university and junk and, like…”

We stared at each other for a few seconds before Jean brushed away a tear that fell from his eyes. He took a deep breath and straightened his posture.

“Okay Carter, listen to me.” He said sternly, despite his shaky voice. “I’ll never find anyone that can replace you, okay? We have these rings and tattoos for a reason, and more importantly, you’re my best friend. I’ve known you for so long, and no one could ever come close to what we have.”

I nodded slowly as the freckled boy combed his fingers through my curls, and I leaned into his hands.

“Don’t cry. It’ll all be okay.”

I chuckled awkwardly and reached out to wipe his face. “You’re one to talk.”

He smiled as he grabbed my hand and kissed it. “Yeah, yeah, whatever.” He exhaled and glanced at the sky.

“Let’s just…make the most of tonight. Who knows when we’ll get another one of these?”

I sighed. “I wish the summer would never end.”

Jean grinned at me, blushing. “Who says it really has to? We can go to college and have fun like back in high school, right?”

I chuckled. “Yeah, but eventually the fireworks’ll end, and everyone will go home, and we’ll leave, and you’ll pack up to go—”

“Shut up!” Jean scrunched up his nose. “The night’s still young!”

I looked around awkwardly. “B-But all the stands and rides are closing, and it’ll be way too late to do anything!”

“Shut up! Shut up, shut up!” Jean shouted, laughing. “It’ll be fine as long as we have each other!”

“What?!”

He snickered and then grabbed my face, muffling my squeal as he slammed his mouth against mine, my entire body melting into his touch. I expected him to pull back quickly like earlier, but he just kept holding me, massaging his lips against mine.

My senses continued to get overwhelmed as the fireworks echoed in my ears and the scent and touch of my boyfriend swallowed me.

He pulled away for a second to take a breath and I smiled awkwardly, blushing from ear to ear.

“You taste like cotton candy.”

He snickered. “So do you.” He pulled me back in, towering over me as he pulled me further into his body.

My eyes rolled back as I moaned into the kiss, running my fingers through his hair, confetti falling everywhere. As he slid his tongue into my mouth, his hand crawled up the front of my shirt, and I shuddered. His temperature was giving me goosebumps.

He leaned back a little, his half-lidded eyes on me as he wiped some saliva off my chin.

Fuck, he always looks so damn attractive at every given second.

“U-Um,” I sputtered, the both of us grinning. “So do we continue watching the fireworks or…”

He looked around. “Why not both? There’s no one else up here.”

I turned red. “Y-You mean—!”

He smirked and leaned his head on my shoulder, pressing his lips against my neck.

“Just for a little bit,” He whispered against my ear and I got a chill, letting out a small whimper.

He softly scraped his teeth against my skin, and I rubbed his back, unsure of what to do with my hands, like usual. Meanwhile, Jean caressed my chest as he violated my neck, biting the one spot that always made me squirm.

“Ah, fuck…”

His fingers brushed across my nipple, and I leaned back more, trying to silence myself with no luck. However, as I moaned, the fireworks covered my sounds, but Jean heard me loud and clear and laughed.

He sat back up and kissed me again, placing his hand on my lower back for support as he slid his other towards my groin. He traced my thighs with his fingertips, leaving me with a tingly sensation.

“Fuck, that feels nice…” I mumbled against his lips, watching him smile before continuing to kiss me, increasing the pressure on my leg.

He eventually did his little trick to remove my shirt with minimal effort and threw off his tank top afterward. I swore people could see us but everyone on the hill looked like shadowy ants from up here and likely had a terrible view. I doubted our glow sticks made enough light, of which we still didn’t take off as we made out.

I rubbed his chest, his lips on mine as he palmed me through my boxers, making my stomach turn. I felt a little lightheaded, but it was probably because we hadn’t done this in a hot second. After work, we were typically too exhausted to do anything other than cuddle or watch TV. More than half the time, I conked out the moment I hit the couch.

But Jean was right—we needed to make the most of tonight. It’s not gonna fuckin’ end until I say it ends.

I’m gonna hold onto this dude forever.

When we finally parted for a few seconds, I pecked the barcode on his neck while attempting to catch my breath. He slipped his hand into my boxers and I whimpered, though I practically slid my hand into his jeans on autopilot.

His hands were cold again and the temperature was giving me an extra layer of pleasure that I wasn’t expecting. I could barely focus on giving him the same treatment as I kept leaning my head back, staring at the fireworks which were becoming a blur.

I bit my lip, my gaze stuck to the sky as Jean pulled my shorts off and leaned down, brushing his hair out of his face. I was already close and the moment I felt his tongue swirl around me, I felt like I was gonna burst.

I leaned back, growing harder with the sight of him in-between my legs, occasionally looking up at me with a sultry expression, his soft orange gaze piercing my soul.

I continuously thrusted my hips into him as I followed his pace, panting loudly. He hummed against me, creating another weird sensation while I pulled on his hair.

“S-Shit…I’m really close,” I groaned, attempting to push Jean’s head back, but he stayed where he was.

“Hm?” He looked up at me, squinting, but I knew he heard me.

I whimpered as he deep-throated me, but my body felt like it was engulfed in flames and I could barely breathe. I never knew how he got so skilled at this and managed to turn me on twice as much every time.

I combed my fingers through my hair, my eyes rolling back in my head as I cried out, all to be muffled by the biggest firework that had been fired during the entire night.

Jean swallowed and wiped his mouth, towering over me as I fell back onto the ground. He smirked while I sprawled out below him, catching my breath.

“You good?” He pecked my lips, yet all I could do was nod.

He leaned down and kissed my chest, his tongue and fingertips swirling over my nipples. He was already making me hard again and I felt I was gonna die.

“W-What about you?” I managed to get out as my boyfriend sucked against the bud.

“What about me?” He asked casually, running his hands all over my body.

I bit my lip, attempting to hold in my variety of whimpers. I knew Jean loved it but I hated hearing them come from my mouth.

“D-Don’t you want me to blow you or something? I mean, I usually do,” I stammered softly.

Jean snickered, sitting up as he combed his hair back, while I drooled at his six-pack. “I’m content with just devouring you like a snack, but you can do anything you want.”

I hid my face and he laughed, but the sound made me relax. I laid there smiling as rainbows of colors illuminated us every few seconds.

After a little bit, he placed his head on my chest, using me as a pillow even though I tensed up again. But Jean didn’t mind—he never did.

“I uh, I can’t believe we just did that. Outside.”

He snickered. “Well, it’s not like we had sex, sex!”

“Oi! I still had my dick out in a public area!”

He sat up, massaging my chest like a cat. “Public area my ass! We’re the only ones up here!”

I gazed at him as he sat on top of me. “You have a thing for getting caught, don’t you?”

Jean tensed up, grinning. “What—no! No way in hell!”

“Then what’s your thing? You’ve gotta have one—we all do!”

The brunet smirked, dragging his finger down my stomach and I squirmed. “Heh, yeah. You like when I bite you.”

I turned red. “We’re not talking about me, we’re talking about you!”

Jean leaned down and scraped his teeth against my neck, catching me off guard again. I hissed softly, combing my fingers through his hair, all while pushing him further into me.

“See?” He whispered against my ear before biting that too.

“S-Stop,” I moaned. “You’re gonna make me hard again.”

He proceeded to give my chest and collarbone the same treatment as I pulled at a patch of grass that stuck up through the patio.

“And? We’ve all night.” He said softly, biting his lip.

I snickered at his expression.

The freckled boy took his jeans off, tossing them into our pile of clothes as he pulled my leg up, pressing his erection against mine.

I jerked my head back and he snickered.

“Honestly, all I’ve ever wanted was to do it outside. You’re the weird one,” He began before grabbing his pants back and tying my hands above my head with them.

“Cause, y’know, you’re into shit like this.”

I tensed up as he towered over me. “Okay and?!”

“And it’s hot.” Jean mused.

Despite my grin, I shut my eyes as I felt him slide my boxers all the way off. His hands caressed the lower half of my body again and my breathing became shaky.

“What, you want me to blindfold you too?”

I peeked my eyes open. “No, shut up!”

We stayed quiet for a bit as he went back and forth from kissing me, to kissing my thighs, to rubbing himself against me. I wanted to hold him but I fuckin’ loved being helpless under him sometimes. Not to mention, he was already touching me enough.

“Do you care if I don’t have a condom?”

I shook my head, my stomach growing tight again as he took a few minutes to loosen me up. He snickered as he licked his fingers every now and again.

“We also don’t have any lube,” He muttered to himself. “So, you might end up hella sore after this.”

I chuckled, staring at his glowstick bracelets, for they were the only piece of ‘clothing’ we still had on.

“I don’t care.”

“Heh, masochist.”

I blushed. “I am not! Shut up you pervert!”

Jean laughed for a bit before finally lifting my waist and pressing himself into me. In seconds I was overheating again, and I couldn’t stop trembling under him. It made no sense. We had done it several times before, but this felt so new and fresh, and my body was losing its shit.

Sure, my hands being tied back was something, but it had to be more than just that.

I cried out his name as my hips matched his rhythm and he leaned over me. His hair kept falling into his face, but he was so focused on touching me that he just continued to gaze at me while letting out the most sensual moans.

He leaned down to kiss me, swirling his tongue around mine before speeding up, making me wish that I could grab him and never let go.

I let out a breathy moan as I tried to speak, and Jean smirked at the sound.

“O-Okay, please untie me,” I cried, my back arching as he moved.

“Hm? No,” He said and laughed.

“Please Jean, I really wanna hold you!”

He continued to gaze at me. “Is that so?”

“D-Don’t be an ass!”

Jean leaned in further and as soon as my hands were free, I clung to him, digging my nails into his back which made him let out the hottest groan.

I kept our bodies pressed together as he continued to thrust into me. I felt my stomach tighten again and he read my expression, though instead of helping me climax, he slowed up and it felt so good yet so awful at the same time.

“W-What are you doing?” I panted as he sat up a little, massaging my thighs as he kept his rhythm.

“Tired,” He groaned, a bead of sweat rolling down his face.

I wrapped my legs around him. “God, I’m so fuckin close, please go faster,” I whined as his wandering hands began to overstimulate me.

“It’s so cute when you beg,” Jean panted, brushing away some of his hair.

He didn’t grant my wish until I cried out more, embarrassing myself, yet completely satisfied once he obliged and sped up.

It didn’t take long before my back arched and I exploded all over the freckled boy’s torso, crying out as I was blinded by the blurry fireworks all around us. Jean still had enough stamina to get faster even once I was busy catching my breath after I overheated.

He lifted my hips, not breaking eye contact until he let out a similar groan to what had slipped out of my mouth just moments ago, squeezing his eyes shut.

After a few seconds, he finally slowed down and pulled out, panting. He wiped some of my mess off his stomach, before trying to clean his hand on the blanket.

“It may have been a mistake to leave all my napkins in the car.”

I snickered, and Jean kissed me softly as I ran my fingers through his hair.

“Eh, nothin’ we can do about it now,” I muttered against his lips, moaning as I found his tongue back in my mouth. He dragged his fingertips down my stomach but every minor movement made me twitch. I tangled my fingers in his hair until I ran out of air and pulled back with a smile.

“I love you,” I said loud enough so that he could hear, and with no stutter or hesitation.

His eyes turned a brighter shade of pink. “I love you too!” He beamed, pecking me one more time before attempting to clean us up.

I continued to lay on the ground, zoning out as Jean wiped us off with his tank top and started putting his pants back on.

“I’m so fuckin sweaty,” He groaned and tied some of his hair up. “You think that ice cream stand is still open?”

I looked towards the concert grounds, basking in the silence. I waited for another bright explosion to illuminate us, but there was nothing.

“Well, the fireworks are over, so I’d assume not.”

He sighed and handed me my clothes as he threw everything back on but his shirt.

“Eh, whatever. I’ll just blast the AC in the car. We’ll have to shower later, I guess.” Jean said, smiling a little as he stretched.

I put my boxers on and continued laying there half-naked. The other guy scooted closer to me and caressed my stomach as we stared at the sky as if waiting for another spark, though all we were left with were a few stars.

“We should do this again sometime,” I said softly, breaking the silence.

“Like, everything?”

I chuckled, blushing a bit. “Yeah. This was a nice way to end the night or maybe even end the summer if this ends up being our last date, date before school.”

The brunet sighed as I sat up and put the rest of my clothes on, whereas he continued to chill shirtless beside me.

His eyes were still pink, yet he gave me a bit of a sad look. “I had a lot of fun too, though I hope we can hang out for another ten hours again and run around town again.”

I laughed, leaning into his chest a bit as he wrapped his arms around me. Despite how sweaty we were, he still smelled like cologne, along with his shampoo which for as long as I’d known him was always pineapple scented.

I ran my fingers through his hair. “You’re uh, still coming back to my place, right?”

He snorted. “Fuck yeah, where else would I go? I’m not gonna drive two hours back home just to shower.”

I looked up a bit, gazing at his tattoo with a grin.

“Not to mention I think I have more clothes at your apartment than at my own house. Which is saying something…” He trailed off.

“Hell yeah! You’ve even got your own toothbrush and designated side of the bed!” I exclaimed.

“I wish it could stay that way though,” Jean mused.

I leaned back a little, for I had already made my way into his lap as if we were magnets.

“What? I’m not gonna toss your stuff when you leave—it’s not like you’re my ex!”

Jean laughed, and my cheeks burned as I gazed at his expression. The boy continued talking but I zoned out, mesmerized by his looks as opposed to getting all sad again. I’ve always loved listening to him talk. He could ramble for hours about things I didn’t know nor care about, and I would still love it.

I rubbed my hand across his chest as he went on, cutting him off as I softly pressed my lips to his. I felt him smile into the kiss, and after combing his fingers through my curls for a bit, he pulled away, smirking.

“Is that your way of getting me to shut up?” He asked, blushing.

“W-What? No! No—that’s not what I meant, I’m sorry!”

The brunet just laughed again, the sound echoing throughout the trees, calming me down as if it were some sort of lullaby.

Jean shuffled a little, facing the clearing crowd as I sat between his legs with my back against him. He held me from behind, his hands occasionally creeping up my shirt while he leaned on my shoulder, humming one of the songs from the concert.

We watched as the people below left and searched for their cars, their glowsticks and bracelets contrasting from the shadows around them.

“Seems like everyone’s going home now. Shouldn’t we?”

I closed my eyes, leaning my head back as Jean’s breath warmed my neck. I stayed quiet, taking in the moment as I felt his stomach rise and lower against my back. It was almost like getting a massage from the most beautiful, most pleasantly sounding, and nicely smelling dude on the entire planet.

“C’mon man, don’t tell me you’re already asleep.” He groaned. “While I do have the strength to carry you to the car, I think I might pass out mid-journey.”

I blushed with a snicker. “No, no I’m up. I just…” I placed my hands over his, smiling like never before.

“I think I already am home.”
