The Greenhouse

Not all of the Machines in the city are "machines".  Machines was simply a catch all term to buildings of wonder, grandeur, and purpose like the previous ones.  One of the "machines" that was not mechanical but was still a "Machine" was the enormous greenhouse, constructed halfway between the Weather Machine and City Center.  Inside this monstrosity resided a jungle of plants, fauna, vines, flowers, etc.  Due to the ingenuity of Dorothie, the lead botanist, the Greenhouse was able to support a wide variety of plants with a controllable atmosphere.  By borrowing some of the climate tech of the Weather Machine, Dorothie and others were able to sustain such a massive feat.  When Cali and the City fractured after the Western War, it's supply of food was devastated and as such, had to be created from somewhere else.

In terms of machines in the current era, The Greenhouse stands the test of time.  With Dorothie never leaving her post or really taking a break, The Greenhouse really never went through the issue of collapse and decay.  While the focus of the Greenhouse, further expanse of human knowledge about exotic plants, may have drifted away, the ones that were created either have their seeds preserved or are still living and being taken care of.  As for now, Dorothie takes aim at developing sedatives and depressive drug agents.  These are simply personal use and experimentation.  The Greenhouse, with its large ability to hold many plants, allows for multiplexed testing.

The Greenhouse resides in the region between City Center and the Weather Machine on the coast.  It lies southeast to the large array of solar panels.
