The Trains

For now, I don't have a name for the train system.  This is simply a working title.

The transport industry also saw a boom during the Age of Lights. While, sadly there were no flying cars or people mover tubes. There was/is however a very high speed train system.  It was not much different from the Metro system of years past.  Like most of the "machines", the subway/train system worked well and was a staple of the Age of Lights.  However, that is not the case today.  The previously fast and exciting trains are still fast and exciting.  To a fault.  Whereas before the trains used to have safety features, they now run without abandon.  Their average speeds have nearly doubled; they often don't stop for passengers; and they are wildly unstable.  While one has not flown off the rails, each ride seems like the last for that set of cars.

Austin is the conductor for the trains.  Or seems to be.  Whether through incompetence or subtle cruelty, it seems Austin can't really control the trains as they often don't go/do what they should be doing while on schedule. This leads to some terrifying moments for the main cast.  Dorothie, Edgwus, Dennis, etc are smart enough to not take the trains.
