a lot of these are old or older, consider them all noncanon because i can't make up my mind, they're not all finished, and i tend to write the same scene over and over again. this is just to have them all posted somewhere

tattoos

Opal is browsing Tumblr one day and comes across a video of someone doing a stick and poke. Phyllis scoffs and says it looks easy. Opal mentions she’s always wanted to get one, and they decide to give each other tattoos. it takes about a week for the supplies to arrive, and when they do, they get set up in Phyllis’ room (they were going to do it in Opal’s but her roommate gets squicked by needles), and they start tattooing. the designs they’re doing are surprises for each other since neither of them could decide on anything, but they wanted to get started as soon as everything arrived. Phyllis goes first. she picks a spot on the back of Opal’s right shoulder that has less freckles than the surrounding area, and she tattoos a fruit bowl like you’d see in a still life. she accidentally made it a bit too small, and the shading she does is very faint, but nonetheless she’s proud of it. then it’s Opal’s turn. she takes a bit to decide where to do it, but eventually chooses a spot on Phyllis’ left hip. she’s laying down and they’re both calmly talking about a potential future together. there’s faint music playing from the floor above, and every time they think they can make out some of the lyrics, the song changes. Opal’s hand is steadier and she’s been practicing on oranges and bananas with a sewing needle beforehand. she draws a pair of binoculars with dotted shading and a small shadow, and she uses white ink to add highlights. the only real problems are that she sometimes presses too hard and Phyllis starts to bleed a little, and that Opal is a little flustered by the location of the tattoo. both of them love the tattoo they got and they talk excitedly about how they came to their decisions. Phyllis is careful about caring for the tattoo, Opal is not and hers ends up a little faded. she loves it
