Wispen

Species created by heliacalrisen

Wispen are a species that have been moved into Achelois so their origins are a small bit changed, but the rest of their lore remains the same. I will go over their origins here and some other key aspects to the species as well as written trait guides.

Origin

Death is sometimes something that some cannot handle. This is the case for an old Witch of long ago. Unable to bear the passing of their love, and their love unable to move on, the Witch tirelessly worked to bring them back in any way. To preserve the soul and the body together; to give life back once it had been ripped from the body. Experiments on the spiritual realm were conducted, including some strong spirits who wanted life back assisting in the process. Over time, magic built up between the two worlds - and finally hit the breaking point. Many on Death Island describe the event as catastrophic, and many resent it. An explosion of magic took place, different kinds all mingling together, and in the aftermath, new beings appeared. A new option was created by accident, an entire new race born from souls and magic.

Magic remains still entwined in the original Wispen birthplace. Souls that refuse to let go are drawn to it. Their strength mixes with the residual magics, and if the time and strength of magic and soul is right, they are reborn as a Wispen, given another chance at life. This upset the balance of the dead and the living, and there are many who resent the creation and some who simply won't associate to Wispen for this reason. Wispen are only found among the accepting of Achelois, though they still struggle to find a proper place in the world as even the Gods and Goddesses spurn their existence. No one has taken any action against their existence as of yet.

Physical Traits and Limitations of Wispen

Wispen, being corporeal beings, do need to eat and sleep; though they need less than the common human. Wispen need around one meal a day. When it comes to food, Wispen are omnivorous, but most have a tendency to prefer mostly meat diets. The amount a Wispen needs to sleep to be healthy is around three to four hours. Because of their different need for sleep, Wispen are seen to be active through the times of noon until eight AM the next day. They are not limited to being active in this time frame - it is simply the most common. Wispen are not limited to eating and sleeping less than a human; they can do more if they wish it. Some Wispen who live with humans have been known to adapt to what a human requires.

When it comes to their life span, Wispen live three times as long as a human does. On top of this, Wispen are immune to poisons and illnesses. This sometimes does lead to Wispen consuming food items that are poisonous or hunting animals that are venomous with no concern if they are bitten. Often times, foods that would be considered harmful to humans are treated as a delicacy to the Wispen. This immunity however, does not extend to any physical harm that may befall them. A Wispen may be injured just the same as any other corporeal being - up to and including being fatally wounded.

Wispen blood is red; no other color has yet to be documented. Their interior organs are very similar to their human counterparts; though it is not unheard of for Wispen to have organs similar to whatever species their soul originally was (this does include carrying over traits; though this instance is extremely rare).

Wispen can be born with either male or female genitalia. Sometimes they can be born with both. In any of these cases, they generally identify to he, she or they pronouns. Wispen can have children - whether it be with other Wispen or with humans. Their bodies are corporeal, and they are able to reproduce, though it is a very slim chance that a Wispen will get pregnant or successfully impregnate another. The baby, when born, is almost always a Wispen, regardless of any cross between species. The Wispen genes are considered stronger and more dominant. The chance of two Wispen having a child are slim, and their chances at crossbreeding are even lower, often regarded as a 0.01% chance. This does not mean they are discouraged from attempting.

Abilities

Wispen have at least one ability they are all born with - the ability to speak to the dead. Some Wispen even use this as a career, as they can speak with and help spirits cross over to the other side. Some Wispen have even shown aspirations to work with law enforcement to help close cold cases. Very few get allowed in, and not many of them are allowed to testify in the court system just yet due to humans believing that Wispen could simply lie, as humans cannot communicate with the dead. Some Wispen even have spirits that stick around them as friends, and it’s not unusual for a Wispen to introduce a spirit to other Wispen, or for one or several spirits to be in a friend group with a bunch of Wispen.

Most Wispen are also telekinetic, though some are more so than others. Their ability to float is the main use of this power; but with excessive training they can sometimes move small objects around. There are very few that can lift other living beings (Wispen that can lift other beings are often only able to lift other Wispen, and never use this for harmful purposes), and none have been documented to be able to use their telekinesis to outright kill anything. They may be able to harm another being by throwing an item they picked up with telekinesis (such as a rock), but outright harming another living being through these powers alone is unheard of.

Culture

Wispen adopt a lot of human culture within Achelois. They sometimes follow and celebrate other species cultures. They do not have a lot of their own celebrations yet, as they are still fighting for equality in several places within Achelois. They are respectful of other cultures, and often show great interest in learning from other cultures and adopting their celebrations so they can be included in them and find new friends. Most Wispen simply want to enjoy life and share the wonders of it with others, no matter who they are. They have become known as one of the most accepting races.

When it comes to religion, Wispen aren't seen believing in much. They believe in traits instead. A moral code to uphold. Not all follow it, there are the ones who turn their backs. Most Wispen follow the traits of compassion for all, equality for all, acceptance for all.
