Engineers

Species created by heliacalrisen

Engineers are a Closed Species within Achelois. You may not make your own without buying or earning a slot. Thank you. Traits & How You Can Use Them

Eye Traits

Eye Traits are exactly as you see them on the sheet.

Body Traits

Body Traits can be mixed together, and will count for both rarities. For example, you may have the Two Tails and Six Arms traits - this will then be a Rare and Legendary Trait on your Engineer.

History

Back in the early days of Achelois, a ship of Engineers made an emergency landing on the planet. Fleeing from their war-ravaged home planet after destroying most all their technological work to keep it from falling into their war obsessed enemies hands, the group that landed on Achelois were the last to leave their home planet. With only their databases and a small crew along with some of their children, they took off. Their ship sustained damage as it left the planet, and in the resulting damage, their navigational systems were scrambled. Unable to properly navigate, they landed on Achelois instead of the other plotted planets the others were sent off to.

The Engineers took their time, started to build their first city. They studied the few species that called Achelois their home, and started to document them. The Engineers have kept a strict record from the moment they landed on Achelois to the current day. They were monumental in introducing advanced tech into Freyr. The city they contributed most to houses their old ship, of which they call their Ark. Within the Ark is where all their databases are stored; accessible only by Engineers. Eventually the city they helped to build became known as Ivorydrift. Most allege this is not the name they chose, but they simply agreed to it as their suggestions weren't too popular.

They have long since multiplied their numbers; though it is rare to see an Engineer outside of Ivorydrift. Some do travel, and some do make homes elsewhere, but most are comfortable in the city they helped to build.

Physiology

The basic anatomy of an Engineer is simple; they stand anywhere from 6 to 8ft tall, commonly have four arms, four finger hands, a single long tail, digitigrade legs, three toed feet, two pupil-less eyes, a slit reptilian-like nose, and sharp razor-like teeth. Their colors vary from Engineer to Engineer, but never are they seem with any black, grey or white on them.

It is not unusual for Engineers to have parts of their organic body replaced with robotic parts. They can live for around 900 to 1000 Achelosian years before their organic bodies start to fail, though disease can strike them earlier and force their hand earlier. These replacements tend to elongate their life double what it would otherwise be; most Engineers experience brain death at around 1900 to 2000 Achelosian years. On their home planet, they counted time differently; in their years, their organic lifespan was 100 years and their augmented lifespan was 200 years.

Engineer tails are used for balance, though can also be used as an extra limb (prehensile tails), or as a weapon. Though these tails can end up coming off, or shortening over time. Their tail is the one thing Engineers do not replace. They find their tail as the one thing that can be easily sacrificed. Though they must relearn how to balance and walk after it. Often times those with little patience will get their legs replaced with robotic ones to help them adjust instantly to the loss of their tail.

Their diet is omnivorous, as they've learned to eat the various foods available on Achelois. They prefer meat, but are able to digest all types of food. Eventually the need for food is phased out of their lives as they begin to replace their organic parts with robotic ones. In these cases, the Engineers do produce their own food that suits the robotic systems they've designed for themselves.

When it comes to reproduction, the only way an Engineer can have any child is with another Engineer. Their genes are too far away from any other species that they simply cannot mix. An Engineer can only reproduce with their entire body intact; once they start to replace their failing organic parts with robotic parts, it renders them sterile. Engineers are hermaphroditic (meaning they carry both sets of reproductive systems). They lay eggs, which the parents will then take turns watching over. It will always be the stronger partner that takes on the duty of having the egg; an Engineer will only have a single egg. It is unusual for an Engineer to have more than two children in their life span, as it does tend to endanger their life; an Engineers overall body is frail in nature, and the strain of reproducing is often more than they can handle if done repetitively.

Culture

Engineers have mostly all fit in with the Acheloisian culture around them; though there are still some things they do in their own old ways.

Hatch days are celebrated in place of birthdays; it is the same concept, but a different name. These days are celebrated in the Engineer years, which means a hatch day is celebrated every 10 Achelosian years. Engineers tend to keep track of their age in their own years, though do have the ability to convert it if an Achelosian asks.

Engineers are able to speak any language that exists upon Achelois; including their own original language. They keep an extensive database of all the languages, including a few dead ones. Some Engineers even offer Language Classes in exchange for Platinum.

Above all else, Engineers work on technology most of the time. Their lives tend to revolve around working to improve even the smallest little thing. It is in their nature to upgrade and improve, always seeking the next development. They often celebrate advancements in technology together, and will often lose many other races in their fast paced discussion over all the little intricacies of technology.

Engineer have adopted Achelosian clothing into their wardrobes, though it took them centuries to feel comfortable enough to stop wearing their original protective armor. Some still do wear armor to better protect their organic parts, but others have come to relax and dress in cloth like those around them do.

When wearing normal Achelosian clothing, most Engineers have opted to forego shoes. They will only wear footwear if it is their own custom made armor. They prefer to feel the ground beneath their feet, and will often fall if made to wear anything they have not created on their feet. Their own creations are outfitted to keep the sensation of touching the ground beneath them present so they can still walk with footwear on.
