Territory

Territory

The agriculture valley that StoneClan calls home.

"Puma reached down from the mountain and scooped out a great valley with one paw."

The Cats of the Valley

StoneClan territory is radically changed from the days of Lightningstar and Steadystar. What was once a rocky swath of hickory and poplar now holds a dense, uniform Twoleg development. The outlying meadows have become overgrown with weedy plants, and the surrounding fields, once unimaginably off-limits, hold some of the only sources of prey. A handful of families directly descended from StoneClan's last warriors still live in and around the area, but the region's population is mostly fresh faces hoping to lay claim to open territory.

Patchpelt Thicket

What was once seldom-used pasture land is now home to a redirected streambed, around which have grown a thicket of young willows, privet, and multiflora rose. Some trees still stand in the hedges bordering the nearby fields, and this area is now an oasis of prey- and plant-life in a sea of disturbed land.

Landmarks

New StoneClan Camp: A formerly nondescript patch of low-lying land has been carved out into a sandy ditch by the new stream. A constant trickle of meltwater flows through the center of the hollow in Newleaf, but during the other three seasons it is warm and dry. Supple willow saplings and entangling vines arch up to enclose a surprisingly hidden shelter. StoneClan cats make their nests along the grassy sloped sides of the ditch, and in dry seasons, kits and apprentices play and train in the center. The medicine den is located in a hollow carved out by old water flow around the roots of a long-dead sycamore, and along its perimeter grows a tangle of restorative rosehips, plantain, and other helpful herbs.

Thrushfur's Barn: Set a distance away from the other farms that line Thunderpath, the small barn that Thrushfur lives in is warm, secure, and seldom used, perfect for sheltering a litter of kittens. However, as much as the local farmer is willing to lay out cans of fresh tuna in the winter months for a nursing queen or two, a clowder of adult cats would well overstay their welcome.

The Stream trails from a murky artificial pond to Thunderpath. The stream runs dry in the hot summer, but it shelters many precious herbs and nests of prey.

Thunderpath Tunnel: The stream drains into a man-made drainage tunnel that leads deep underneath Thunderpath. Enterprising cats may use this path to avoid the monsters above to reach the farmland on the other side, but the dangers of floodwater or taking a wrong turn into the Twolegplace sewers are too great for most.

Twolegplace

The fall of Old StoneClan coincided with the construction of a development of cheap, modular human apartments. The central area contains a small cluster of parking lots and commercial buildings that provide semi-edible garbage and attract edible rats. Lining the grid of black Twoleg stone that shimmers hot and sticky in the summer are strips of strangely uniform grass and stunted bushes that smell like poison and shelter very little prey.

Landmarks

New Twolegplace: Tall, uniform Twoleg constructions now stand in the heart of Old StoneClan territory. Kittypets can be seen through windows, but most cats who roam the bare stone streets are Stones.

Old Twolegplace has been here as long as anybody can remember. Single-family homes with fenced-in yards house all sorts of kittypets.

The Stones' Hangout: Located in a scrappy park inside a ring of Twoleg buildings, The Stones gravitate here to nap or catch up. It is here, on top of a dumpster, where Granite holds court.

Burger Place: To one side of a nondescript parking lot near the center of New Twolegplace sits the location that The Stones hold most dear: Burger Place. A perpetual source of edible Twoleg garbage, Burger Place occasionally produces a bonanza of still-warm cheeseburgers. Rogues from all over will gather to gorge on the delicious patties and party the night away, knowing that they might not get their next big meal for weeks.

Old StoneClan Camp: The hollow that once marked StoneClan's old camp was paved over and turned into a decorative roundabout intersection. The dens and barrier are now entirely gone, but one remnant of the once-proud clan still stands.

The Great Stone: The ruined symbol of Old StoneClan, this once-mighty symbol has been cracked in two and surrounded by Twoleg fencing made of solid night. The pile of pebbles that once memorialized StoneClan's fallen warriors are scattered among a bed of flowers, some toxic, some simply alien. Access to the Great Stone is still possible, but between the ring of hungry monsters, the watchful eyes of The Stones, and the frustrating Twoleg barrier, it is prohibitively difficult.

Farmland

StoneClan territory is ringed to the west and south sides by a patchwork quilt of crops and pasture as far as the eye can see. These fertile fields are ripe with birds and mice, but farm dogs and coyotes looking for an easy meal roam day and night.

Landmarks

Barn Cat Territories: A number of barn cats hold court over their respective fields. Usually just cheeky, they are unafraid to call over the farm dogs if intruders get too bold. In order of proximity to Patchpelt Thicket are Mouser Mack, Cloudseeker's old territory, and Hutch.

Cloudseeker's Farm: A rich stretch of hunting land gifted to StoneClan by Cloudseeker from his barn cat days. Its fields lie some distance away from StoneClan proper.

Thunderpath: The largest road in the territory, known simply as Thundeepath, is also the most dangerous. Monsters sprint down it at night, searching for prey.

Surrounding Area

StoneClan's valley eventually transforms into forested foothills to the north and west and flat land dotted by farms and Twoleg settlements to the south and east. on the western horizon lies the Blue Ridge, and far, far to the east there are rumors of cats who have encountered the sea.

Landmarks

The Barrens used to mark the edge of StoneClan territory, but The Shattering left this region an expanse of bare ground, now overgrown with thorny brambles and scrappy invasive plants. However, a determined herbalist could curate this tangle and discover a wealth of medicinal native herbs here.

Charlie's Exile: The banished warrior Charredbranch took shelter in a collapsing barn far to the north of StoneClan's old territory. Now much closer to the encroaching Twolegplace border, this wanderer's respite is known by its inhabitant's loner nickname, Charlie.

Moon Ridge: The first of the northern foothills beyond Cloudseeker's land is Moon Ridge, the home of the mysterious Moon's Shadow. A regularly recurring crop circle that ebbs and flows in a reverse image of the moon, Moon's Shadow marks the closes point between the earthly world and the afterlife. After a mysterious being from the stars unlocks the way, Medicine Cats began traveling to Moon Ridge every half-moon, when the realms of life and death hold equal sway.

The Blue Ridge Mountains: Rising out of the western horizon is the Blue Ridge. The low, rolling mountains, often shrouded in a blue haze, are said to be the ancestral homeland of the Comets. However, most cats of the valley consider them as unreachable as the sky. Not even the loners who return from its foothills know what lies on the other side.
