Childrearing in the Valley

Childrearing is extremely important to Charlie, as she faced the trauma of having her family ripped away from her at a young age

The Stones members who get pregnant go to Twolegs to care for them and take the kits. This seems callous or strange to outsiders, but life on the streets is difficult, and being tough and scrappy can only truly protect adult, able-bodied cats. Many of these kits return to The Stones when they come of age, but some are never seen again. Stones mothers and kittens are frequently spayed before being returned to the streets, and as a result, most Stones parents only have one litter, though they may have multiple fathers. This contributes to the high turnover rate of The Stones’ membership and its loose family ties.

Tipped cats are seen by The Stones with reverence. They either are parents or Twoleg escapees, and they are immune to many diseases, including the dreaded Red Madness. They are widely considered to be fitter and luckier than non-tipped cats.

Many loners behave similarly, but they are a diverse group as a whole.

Descendants of StoneClan like Thrushfur form strong family units, and mentor and guide their young until young adulthood. These families are few in number and widely scattered, however.

Charlie and Celery devise an addition to the Warrior Code stating that the clan leader, deputy, and medicine cats may not be related, and clan knowledge must not only be passed from parent to child. This clashes with almost everybody’s customs.

This area in particular is the greatest cultural clash between the different groups.
