Alphaeus are a monstrous species native to Eispaxea (Unina). They hide deceptively well amongst unsuspecting citizens, consequently creating the conception that they are simply creatures of mythology, never existing outside out of made up stories. They are deemed apex predators, creative and hard to kill. In their true forms they are recognised by their stocky build, double jaws and sensitive tendrils that line their spines.

APPEARANCE/ AT A GLANCE

All Alphaeus have at least 2 sets of horns, always featuring small horns above their eyes. They have 4 eyes on each side of their head. The exposed bones and flesh along their neck and check are covered by a thick, translucent skin that protects it from grim. This is the main weakpoint of an Alphaeus, though you have to get past their dual set of jaws, full of sharp teeth and three tongues in each mouth.

In both forms, Alphaeus have unique markings that appear on their face around the eyes and their forearms (plus chest and stomach in human form), known as ‘identifier marks’. These are all unique between all Alphaeus.

Eskwuan Zilariuns reside in a wide range of climates, so have developed a body type that is more generally suited to all areas.

Alphaeus are not naturally built for shifting, being able to shift takes practice over their adolescence. Shifting from their true form takes longer than shifting from their human form. Shifting from human to monster only takes a few minutes, however shifting from the true form to human can take up to a few hours as it’s quite unnatural. Some older Alphaeus have trained specially into shifting between forms, and can do it a bit quicker.

Due to their lack of hair on their monstrous body, Alphaeus don’t actually have hair in their human forms, that appears using their illusionary magic.

When Alphaeus shift into their human forms, there are two different ways it can appear: A ‘suppressed’ mode and an ‘unsuppressed’ mode. In their suppressed forms they look completely human, save for potentially unnatural hair colour and eye colour. In some cases they will leave their identifier marks visible.

In their unsuppressed mode, the sclera of their eyes turn black, their horns and spikes appear, alongside their claws and identifier marks if they weren’t visible prior.

They can control how much appears in either of their human modes, however their identifier marks are the first to appear in their unsuppressed mode and the last to disappear when suppressing.

Estrataean Zilariuns stand out amongst any other Zilariun, where they are coated in long fur from the edges of their face to the base of the tail, meaning they’re the most common variant to feature feathers on their legs reminiscent of draft horses. They typically feature feathered wings or mixed wings. They are built to withstand the cold, with plated paws like Almarin Zilariuns and would struggle to reside in hotter countries such as Uvrial.

Estrataean Zilariuns are known for being immensely physically strong and resourceful. They are adept at using their wings, which are usually quite large, to knock snow out from their path.

All Zilariuns are required to have between 2 and 18 gems on each side of their face, around their eyes. They are also required to have a gem on each paw and on the 'wrist' joint of their wings. They can be any more naturally occuring shapes (no 'made-made' shapes).

Zilariuns have no colour limitations for any variant. Some colours are more common for certain variants, but they are not requirements. Any part of a Zilariun can be any colour.

All Zilariuns are required to have a tail-blade and horns, however both can appear in any colour or design. There are no limitations to how they appear.

In a list format, Zilariuns are all required to have the following:

- Gems under and around the eyes (min 2 each side, max 18 each side)

LEARN MORE...

Alphaeus are strict carnivores that rely on their illusionary skills and intelligence to hunt their victims. They use their magic to blend into society and create a double life. While usually sadistic in nature, Alphaeus can feel the whole range of emotions. Once they reach physical maturity their age seems to slow right down until their final days, this is due to evolution allowing them to remain young appearing to draw in prey.

Alphaeus have their own hidden community within Eispaxea, ruled by their sole reigning Queen, Keket. They usually travel and hunt in packs of 1-5 Alphaeus depending on the needs of the pack. Groups of Alphaeus together are known as a ‘control’. Outside of a single King or Queen, Alphaeus do not have an official hierarchy.

All Alphaeus have the ability to impregnate and carry offspring regardless of their outwardly gender. They have a very long gestation time, lasting between 13-15 months before they are born. Alphaeus are always birthed in their true forms. Alphaeus are birthed live, and when born lack horns, spikes or the tendrils along their back. Alphaeus will usually give birth to 1-3 pups. During infancy and adolescence, their skin is at its softest point where it is easy to cut. They develop their horns, tendrils and identifier marks as they age, usually being fully developed by the age of 15. For the first 20-25 years of their life they age at the same rate as humans.

In common cases the parental Alphaeus remain with their offspring and prepare them for life until the offspring reaches 16 or 17, then they’ll usually disappear. After that, it’s common for them to never cross paths again unless tracking the same prey.
