Valkyrie Phoenixes are an elusive and mysterious species within Unina. They are known for being beautiful birds of any colour and element. They are characterised by their unique crests and tails, and the beautiful tassels that trail behind them from both. They reside on their own mysterious series of isles in the sky, Miladyee.

They’re considered the ‘angels’ of Unina, created by Wolffia to protect the world from any grave danger due to a long history of being guardians of Unina against monsters and strife, usually of Scarmarta’s creation. They reside on the elusive, floating islands of the Miladyee Isles, a few miles north-west of Kairon. The species is almost as mysterious as their islands, hardly ever seen until they’re needed. Some consider them as guardian angels, while others see them simply as pests that view everyone else as “too unfit” to protect themselves from dangers of the world.

Throughout history, their primary rivals where the Daemoi and they're now extinct brethren, the Daeingellum, who were known for causing destruction and chaos amongst the passive lands of Unina. Nowadays, their very existence is threatened by the 'Alconvas Society', an organisation of specially trained hunters, trained to track and take down Valkyrie Phoenix.

Valkyrie Phoenixes have a largely carnivorous diet, and in some hidden tomes of history, have been known to feast on other Valkyrie Phoenix in the time of need. In their humanoid forms they can feast on fruits, herbs and vegetables more easily.

APPEARANCE

There are certain traits that make a Valkyrie Phoenix stand apart from other Phoenixes or Phoenix-like creatures.

Valkyrie_Phownix_Page.png

Most notable to begin with, Valkyrie Phoenixes showcase a variety of matching crests and tails. Each elemental variant has its own crest and tail, unique from the other elemental variants. There are occurrences of hybrids, which create muddled crests and tails, however they all still carry the same confidence and radiance pure bred elemental variants showcase.

Valkyrie Phoenix are often known for their long “ribbons”, known as their tassels, that protude from behind their crests and tails. These tassels are always a certain colour, one that corresponds with their element/s. These tassels are prehensile and can be used to grab or hold things. They can be quite sensitive, particularly when a Valkyrie Phoenix is young. These tassels usually float behind them. The more wings a Valkyrie Phoenix has, the more tassels they will feature. These tassels vary n length, depending on what subtype the Valkyrie Phoenix is.

As implied by the name, the most common subtype of Valkyrie Phoenix. There is nothing particularly unique to note about this subtype, but they make up the majority of the general population for the species. They only have the ability to have two wings and have the shortest elemental crest and tails of all variants. Their primary flight feathers are made of crystals, usually leaving them rather shiny.

Slightly uncommon subtype of Valkyrie Phoenix. They can have up to six wings and are built like bricks. They have a stocky appearance and often grow horns just before their crests, claws grow on their wings and their beaks and claws are long and sharp, much like real life birds of prey, designed for ripping into prey and enemies. They’re commonly found to naturally have a proud personality and desire to protect. They make up the majority of the Valkyrie Phoenix armies. When found outside of Miladyee, they can often be found in mercenary and soldier-like positions, or ones that require lots of physical labour. Their primary flight feathers are made of metals rather than crystals and durable enough to use as blades and their tassels are shorter to prevent damage in battle.

Almost as rare as the Fae subtype, the Royal Valkyrie Phoenix is the most respected. They are the largest variant, sporting a crane-like body shape, sporting long necks, long beaks and long legs. They feature the longest tails and crests, with the ability to have up to 10 wings. The more wings they have, the more tassels they begin to don around their crest and tail. Usually the Valkyrie Phoenix with the highest wing count is considered the Quing of their respective element. Most Royals have a unique elemental attack, such as petal shaped fire that creates a whirlwind around its target (signature attack of Carnelian, Quing of the fire variants.) Crystals appear on their chest, just below their plumage that acts as a generator for extra magic. To travel safely, Royals have the ability to take on a smaller, common subtype appearance.

Nearly rarer than the royal subtype, the Fae subtype is the smallest and hardest to find. They are called fae for their often mischievous and regarded as ‘immature’ nature. They do not have elemental variants like the other subtypes, rather they feature their own unique crest and specialise in spell-casting instead of elemental abilities. They lack the ability to have more than two wings and crystals grow up the coverts (arms) of their wings. They’re the shortest in their human forms as well, but have a lot of energy. They’re known for being nimble and quick footed.

There are two primary classes of note within the Valkyrie Phoenix traditions, it is not easy to fall into either class.

Revered: A class that names a select few Valkyrie Phoenix. These are usually closer descendants of the Mother Phoenix, which fuels them with stronger magic and has a great ability to harness it. They usually become a Revered through the blessing of the Mother Phoenix after a particularly notable action. They are generally recognised by their unique glowing markings that appear on their wings and the special veils that cover their body. In some cases of many-winged Royals or commons, they can grow the same 'pseudo-wings' that the Mother Phoenix has.

Exiled: A class that’s incredibly difficult to fall into. To get here you must grievously disobey the Valkyrie Phoenix code of protecting mortals, the young or their already dwindling community. The most common cause for becoming Exiled is the corruption of the mortals they’ve sworn to protect. Through becoming an Exiled, other Valkyrie Phoenixes of the community will tear at one's feathers and pull them out or break them, leaving the now Exiled looking like a disgrace to the species. Often these Valkyrie Phoenixes become thinner and their feathers become duller, showing their ‘fall from grace’.

Valkyrie Phoenixes can shift between two forms, their human form and their phoenix form. They used to be unable to do this, but they learnt how to in order to blend in with Uninan inhabitants and protect themselves from Alconvas hunters. They can retain a few traits from their phoenix forms. They can retain their tassels, some crest feathers that protude from behind their pointed ears, or even retain claw-like nails.

In the cases of some 6-wing Defenseur or 6+ wing Royals, they can retain wings or their tail in their human form. Some Royals retain their chest crystal and some Defenseur retain their horns. Fae Valkyrie Phoenix always retain their crest in their human forms, creating a sort of 'layered' look to their hair.

Some subspecies retain Valkyrie Phoenix traits in their human forms such as: feathers mimicking their crest from behind their ears or hair that mimics their crest; some have tails; and others have been found to even retain wings or horns (defenseur exclusive). Once a Valkyrie Phoenix is born and has developed after a few years, they will begin to learn how to shift forms and harness their magic. Valkyrie Phoenixes have a quick transformation and easily learn to control their shape-shifting.

Some royal Valkyrie Phoenixes (6+ wings) can obtain an additional third form, which allows them to appear as a common subtype, which allows them to travel more safely. If a Valkyrie Phoenix is born with 8-10 wings, with practice, they may be able to take on a semi-humanoid Phoenix appreance.

Further Information

There are two parts to the Valkyrie Phoenix society. There is the general expectations amongst all variants, and the community of single-element communities.

Each element resides on its own island where they follow their own unique standards and customs.

All communities still follow the general expectation of the social hierarchy. The most respect goes to the Mother Phoenix, the Revered, the Royals, then the Defenseurs, the Fae, the Common and finally, at the bottom, the Exiled. Some scoieites, such as the Necrois island have greater respect for the Exiled than other islands, as they're the most likely to become exiled.

Most Defenseur Valkyrie Phoenixes have a gret respect for Fae Valkyrie Phonix, since their magic is the reason Miladyee Isles are hidden behind clouds all year round.

Valkyrie Phoenixes have a long gestation period of 24 months (or 2 years) and can have between 1 and 4 eggs (exception being the Fae subtype, they can have up to 12 eggs). Throughout Miladyee, there are places known as ‘cluster homes’ where Valkyrie Phoenix can lay their eggs safely and the cluster homes are guarded at all times by defenseur subtype Valkyrie Phoenix, ensuring the safety of all offspring.

During pregnancy, Valkyrie Phoenix can still shift between their forms, however it is advised to remain in their phoenix forms from knowledge of pregnancy through to the laying of eggs, as the chicks have not yet developed any magic and may not change forms with their parent.

When eggs are laid and hatched, the raising and nurturing is a group effort. The eggs and chicks are nurtured by the parents and usually up to three nurse-parents (any gender is welcome to become a nurse-parent). Nurse-parents assist the parents and act as a secondary set of parents when the primary ones are not available. They are picked out by the parents during gestation and are usually all close. As the chicks grow and mature, nurse-parents are often viewed as extended family.

Once a Valkyrie Phoenix is born and has developed after a few years, they will begin to learn how to shift forms and harness their magic. Valkyrie Phoenixes have a quick transformation and easily learn to control their shape-shifting.

All elemental variations have a unique crests and tails that identify themselves from other variations. Certain variations have additional traits such as webbed feet or crystals growing around the crest.

Fire/Infernos - Recognised by their short, wavy crest and tail, adorned with long decorative feathers, and dark or vivid red tassels. They can manipulate and create flames, and their crest and tail can glow. The decorate long feathers can explode into fire as a defensive maneuver.

Water/Aqua Puris- Recognised by webbed talons, long thin crest feathers that curl at the ends. Aqua Puris tassels are dark blue, and can feature light blue, watery markings. They are able to create and manipulate water. With training, they can morph into water and travel through waterways. They're able to spend a long time under water, much like penguins and other seabirds.

Nature/Grama - Gramma are recognised by their wide but short, petal like feathers that layer on the tail to become long. Their tassels are green with touches of brown, or brown with touches of green. They can create and manipulate plant growth and development. Some older Valkyrie Phoenixes have spent so much time in nature that they have flowers growing on their body.

Earth/Terris - Terris Valkyrie Phoenix are recognised by the crystals or minerals that grow over their claws and beaks. These minerals can sometimes grow around their face and form small horns. Their crest and tail is made up of metallic square shaped feathers that layer. Their tassels are light grey or silver, with a metallic sheen. Some Valkyrie Phoenixes who rely greatly on their magic have additional cystals forming on their body. They can manipulate the earth and minerals that form within.

Ice/Blizzaro - Recognised by their dual layered crest and tail, the top layer bent upwards and the second, lower layered bent downwards. Their tassels are a pale blue-grey. They can create and manipulate ice and snow. They're known for often having cold feathers.

Air/Zephyra - Recognised by their cloud like, downy crest and tail. It is soft to the touch and moves with the breeze. Their tassels are a teal colour, sometimes with cloud-like patches of white. They can generate and manipulate the breeze around them, creating a strong breeze of whirlwinds.

Storm/Stras - Recognised for their naturally short crest and long tail that's straight. Their tail only curves at the very end. Their tassels are dark grey and dark purple, and can be found with accents of yellow or white. They can manipulate and create strong storms and electricity.

Light/Radia - Recognised by their crest and tail that sharply bends upwards halfway down the feather. Their claws are commonly larger than most other variats. Their tassels are light or bright yellow. They're able to manipulate and create light, known turning it into tangible objects or lighting up dark spaces. Their whole body glow as needed.

Dark/Stygios - Recognised by their crest and tail that sharply bend downwards halfway down the feather. They also frequently have sharp ridges on the top of their beaks. Their tassels are dark purple. They are able to manipulate and create shadows, turning them into tangible objects or darkening the area around them.

Life/Celestios - Recognised by their crest and tail feathers that grow out on a long spine, before ending in a burst of plumage. Their tassels are white. They can heal physical injuries and heal most diseases. In large groups, they can bring a soul back to the body. They often gather where a new soul is created.

Death/Nercrois - Recognised by their upwards curling crest and tail that features unique decorative feathers. Their tassels are dark grey or black. They are able to inflict diseases and illnesses onto others, and can sense when someone will pass. They often gather where someone will soon pass away and guide them to Deeandra.

Space/Astrias - Recognised by their curled crest and tail that sit similar to a bobbed hair cut that are adorned in sparkling, space-like patterns. They can manipulate gravity and space around them, even able to remove atmosphere from a space with enough training. Their whole body can become sparkly and space-like, a useful trick for flying through the night sky. Their magic often appears in the form of sparkling star dust. Their tassels are purple with star-like glowing patches spattered along the tassel.

Valkyrie Phoenixes can shift between two forms, their human form and their phoenix form. Some royal subspecies Valkyrie Phoenixes can obtain an additional third form, which allows them to appear as a common subtype, which allows them to travel more safely.

Valkyrie Phoenixes do not so much have deities, as they have the Mother Phoenix to share her guidance. She is the only Valkyrie Phoenix to possess more than 10 wings and all elements. She is a mighty figure, who is reborn from the ashes of the old Mother Phoenix every 15,000 years. She keeps the wisdom and knowledge of her past lives to ensure the protection of her species. She selects the leaders of each island when the need arises.

Only once, has a new Mother Phoenix been created. But that was many, many years ago, back when the species was new and the world was very much divided into good and evil. She resides on the centre island of the Miladyee Isles. Amongst the Valkyrie Phoenixes, Guardians and Daemoni, she is acknowledged as Wolffia's daughter, considering Wolffia as the ultimate Mother.

In an effort to blend in with the more mortal species of Unina, the language of the Valkyrie Phoenix has been lost to time. What little lives on, is kept by the fae subtype’s spell-casting. While some fae subtype scholars can translate some words, most cannot be translated and are a mystery within the spell-casting itself. The only other figure to remember any of the language is the Mother Phoenix, though she refuses to speak it for some reason, let alone teach it to other Valkyrie Phoenixes. They now primarily speak the same language as the mortals of Unina, Kuniakri (their equivalent of English).
