Eispaxean Unicorns are a rare species, found only in the country of Eispaxea in Unina. They used to be much more commonly seen roughly 200 years ago, but unicorn hunting hit an all time high and they nearly went extinct. Eispaxean unicorns learnt how to take on human forms to have a better success rate. Alphaeus and poachers are their primary threats.

The most common type of Eispaxean Unicorn. As the name suggests, they are entirely nocturnal and specialise in dark magic. They’re known for having dark, almost black coats with a brighter hair colour. Nocturnal unicorns look somewhat feral in appearance with fur that runs down their spine from their long mane to their long tail and small fur tufts on their legs. They most commonly have dappling, a dorsal stripe or body heavy markings. They’re horns are often thick and either branchlike in texture or segmented.

The second most common type of Eispaxean Unicorn. They display a mastery over the magic of illusion. They’re able to summon copies of items they have seen or touched that are usable until they de-summon it. If they touch the item and learn its smaller details, their copies will be more realistic and more physical. They are characterised by small antlers that grow just in front of their ears and by long manes and tails that are known to drag on the ground behind them. Often they have fangs that jut out of their mouth and they’re commonly found to have a dark-medium coat with a dark mane and tail that features an element of a brighter colour. They’re known to either have quite a simple coat or one with a large amount of markings.

The second rarest type of Eispaxean Unicorn. They most closely resemble the original unicorn, with cleft hooves, pale body and long, straight horn. Their tail is long and whip-like with a fur tuft on the end. Their mane and tail range from white to light grey/silver to light or pale blonde. They usually lack markings save for darker points on their legs and muzzle. In their human forms they usually burn easily under the sun and most people assume they are albino. They have magical healing properties, and the magic from their horns can cure even the most severe of diseases.

The rarest type of Eispaxean unicorn. They are characterised by their white coat with a coloured mane and tail, and their thick horn that features small protrusions and crystals growing within the horn. Their hair and fur are naturally rather shiny and silky soft. They can harness light magic and are known to be elusive and hard to find. They’re draft horse-like in build, often adorned with feathered legs.

Eispaxean unicorns are a type of unicorn that live in small herds throughout Eispaxea. Each variant looks relatively unique to the others but they’re likely to co-exist for the purposes of survival. They are Alphaeus’ most favoured food source due to the magic that flows through their blood and Alphaeus seem to be able to find them even when they’re in their human form. They’re hunted by poachers for their horns as their horns hold immense magical power and can be used as weapons. There are hybrids of Eispaxean Unicorns that have become common enough they’ve begun being recognised as their own variants.
Eispaxean Unicorns have an element of culture that means often, when they're reaching the end of their life or have already passed, they will be buried in their natural unicorn forms and their horns will be harvested and fashioned into some sort of tool. This tool most commonly takes the form of a dagger. The family member who harvested the horn will either hold onto it or gift it to someone they love or treasure, as a sign of acceptance into the unicorn's family. It is rarely revealed that the new dagger is made from a unicorns horn or that it belongs to the giver's family, as it endangers the givers life to reveal they are a unicorn.
Hybrids have become increasingly common as the species struggles to rebuild its numbers. These hybrids include Nightmare (MiragexNocturnal), Lightflayer (PrismaticxMirage), amongst others. Hybrids usually retain the abilities from both parents, however that is not always the case.
Eispaxean Unicorns mirror that of humans. They will, however give birth in their unicorn forms and raise the offspring in that form until they are old enough to begin harnessing their powers. They spend about 8 months carrying the offspring to full term.
