Astraea Starlight

Astraea is a famous mage and equally well-renowned astronomer throughout Neo Skylands. Alongside making many discoveries about the starry sky above us and how it all works, she's the only known mage to have ever mastered Astros- the magic of outer space and everything within its infinite reaches. Astros is a powerful, dangerous magic with many possibilities and many ways that it could go wrong for the user, and nobody has been able to replicate the feat of adequately taming its volatile energies since Astraea. She is generally friendly and kindhearted, and is incredibly smart and incredibly curious, always trying to tie together every last loose end about how the universe works and writing down any advancements she happens to make.

Having known of the existence of the gods for all her life, she'd been searching the stars from her observatory on a remote island for years, and one day she picked up strange radio signals and an otherworldly light from a remote corner of the sky's endless tapestry. Theories sprung from her mind, and soon she came to believe that that signal may be coming from something that she'd theorized to exist a few years before- the gods' home, the Astral Plane. And she wanted to be the first mortal to see it in person. So, one day, she took to the stars in a FTL-capable starship, heading in the direction of that bright light and hoping to find something remarkable.

Even at her ship's maximum travel speed, it took years to travel that much distance- years that Astraea and her small crew spent experimenting, writing down anything interesting they saw, and playing whatever games they happened to bring along with them. But one day, it happened- Astraea could see the light up ahead; it was so close now, and it was blinding. But she couldn't get much closer- the angel guard noticed her, interpreted her advance as a threat, and they came out in droves to take her ship down. The starship was destroyed, and everyone on-board was killed- except for Astraea.

It was Elidra who rescued her, as she'd spent quite some time on Earth and happened to recognize the Astromancer celebrity. Swooping out from the Plane, she took Astraea in her arms and brought her through the barrier- a process that branded Astraea's mortal body with several rune-like burns. After being given some time to recover, Astraea was allowed to explore, fervently writing down everything she saw and interacting with everyone she met to get as good of a picture of this heavenly realm as she could, to bring back to Earth later. Once she was done getting her research down, she used the gods' warp system to return to Earth, publicizing her discovery a few months later. As beautiful as the Astral Plane was, she couldn't be happier to be home at last.
