About
Gale would say his life didn't really start until after it went to complete shit: Just after escaping an abusive relationship that left him monstrous, one-legged, and pregnant. Before that he might as well have been a ragdoll that got passed around to whoever would have him.
The desire to do better for himself and his new family on top of the near-death experience were huge kicks in the pants that he'll admit he desperately needed & they motivated a huge change in his life. He moved cities, started a business, gave birth, started transitioning, trying real hard to learn some self esteem and set boundaries and not ever put up with scary abusive bullshit ever again.
People who knew him before the big change don't recognize him anymore, which is just the way he likes it.
That was all like 15 years ago though, he's been established as the town barkeep for a while & is very happy with his daughter & multiple datefriends & workout buddies & drinking buddies & cool randos.
Personality & Outlook
Tries very hard to be a light and fun presence, to the point where serious conversations are nearly-impossible(except when he initiates them lmao). Struggles to express when he's upset or uncomfortable despite trying really hard because he spent so long feeling like he wasn't entitled to having problems with anything. Still kinda does feel like that and will still slip into ignoring an issue & hoping it resolves itself sometimes.
Admires yet is disdainful of people who openly express pain because he was socialized to ignore his own suffering & even when the werewolf thing showed up & bulldozed over his self restraint he couldn't even enjoy it & had to learn how to put his feelings BACK ON A LEASH for the safety of those around him,,,Balancing NO FEELINGS and ALL FEELINGS is hard :(
Loves to socialize but has a hard time getting close with anybody, refuses to depend on anybody for anything & hates being indebted over anything(ESPECIALLY in a romantic context. Would never share a home or bank account with a lover, has a difficult time accepting gifts because they've been used against him before lololol).

Wolfy
Pretty much a werewolf. He doesn't consider it to be a great situation but the enhanced sense of smell & hearing is p cool. Shapeshifting is scary but also fangs are hott.

Makes him privy to all sorts of information, for example: all the good rumors going around town, the easiest ways to clean up puke, all kinds of cocktail recipes,
Relationships
Kenny [daughter]
He treats her like a Bro™ more than anything. Wants to be a good dad for her but it's super scary. Luckily she's a good kid & doesn't take advantage of his doormat tendencies too much
She's a lot more hotheaded & stubborn on any given day than he's been in his entire cumulative life, and he's happy for it. Even if it's a pain sometimes he's glad she can stand up for herself.
Marta [girlfriend]
Trauma Buddy. The only person he can have a halfway-serious conversation(done entirely in the form of shitty jokes) with without wanting to die immediately afterwards.
Maverick [girlfriend(???)]
Cute grump who shows up at the bar sometimes & slept over about as often. It wasn't really supposed to be serious, but between Mav's association with Marta and Kenny it's getting uncomfortably-close to that.
They're both kinda outsiders in town and there's a bond in that, even if Gale doesn't care if he doesn't have many friends and honestly was scared of Mav's reputation before he met her.
He likes that she and Kenny get along(personality-wise they are both fireballs).
Hyaki [workout buddy]
also his go-to when he needs advice about magic bullshit cuz she's the most approachable CoL member around these parts (she's kinda assigned to help him with his wolfiness). Really cool and just, a The Most Upstanding Person. Also introduced him to August.

Actually she's his prosthetic engineer, he just tells everybody she's his niece, because he's,,,super private & sensitive about the state of his body. She plays along with it cuz she gets it & also whenever she's in town he provides a room & many meals for her. Aside from business he thinks she's a sweet girl and he likes anybody who's good with Kenny.
Aesthetic
Surfer vibes, but with more pond scum. Under the dock where everything is kinda slimy, dank mystery smells, tendrily aquatic plants, stagnant & slow-flowing water. Giant River Otters. All of his outfits can become swimsuits in approximately 10 seconds.

• owns & lives above a pub called The Chime Inn. It's not an inn anymore because he doesn't like the idea of strangers in his house but he kept the name cuz it's cute. If people ask he just says there's no vacancy.
