Personality

[Lawful Good Alignment]

Narael is an elf who from a young age has been trained to become a paladin and become a soldier. He is a disciplined man with a strong sense of justice, always respecting the law and willing to help anyone in trouble. He takes his responsibilities very seriously, sometimes too much, which means that he can be seen by others as demanding and strict. He is a man very devoted to the god Esiar and Iris, lady of the elves, and prays every day without fail. He will not tolerate anyone uttering profanities in his presence.

He has received a good education, which is noticeable in his manner of speech, his manners and his graceful movements, having the most elegant bearing among the three siblings. Formerly, he used to be excessively formal, but this trait has softened over the years he has spent in the guild and now he is more casual with people close to him.

He often helps Nordock to lead the guild as his right-hand man, and considering how unconcerned Nordock can be about his responsibilities, some of them almost consider Narael the real boss. Although he is still very young for his race, he already has a lot of experience as a mercenary and knows the business well. He tends to be a rather patient and stoic man, but he can be easily irritated by certain things such as the frequent impulses of his superior. He is both admired and feared by new recruits, whom he trains on occasion.

He has been fascinated by insects since he was a child, a passion that has always shocked the people who know him, and he can spend long periods of time exposing facts about them. In general, he can get excited talking and doesn't stop when a subject that interests him is discussed.

Relationships

Shainyra (374)

Narael's mother. She was formerly part of Iris' guards, but left after her husband's death and is currently focused on training new recruits. Although he doesn't have many chances to see her, Narael has noticed how cold and demanding she has become and is a little afraid of how it might affect his sisters, especially Selynnia. He feels guilty at times for staying in the guild instead of remaining by her side, wondering if that would have prevented her from wearing herself down to such a level. However, at no point has he come to regret his decision.

Othorien (346)

Narael's father. Paladin who used to be one of the highest ranking soldiers among Iris' guards and a much admired and loved man. He took his duty very seriously, to the point where it took his own life 32 years ago. Despite his status, he was always a rather folksy man who treated everyone as equals. Although strict, he loved his children deeply and always tried to show it and keep them motivated. Narael respected him greatly and still to this day aspires to be like him. Although he initially questioned his decision, he is glad he sent him to the guild, which he considers a second home.

Taenya (137)

Narael's older sister. An intelligent, serious and very dedicated woman, from a young age she began to stand out very quickly. Implacable against criminals with her trusty axe, her sense of justice shines brightly but she is excessively radical. Narael has always noticed a slightly tense and competitive air in her presence, but tries not to fall into her game. He admits that she works hard to fulfill her duty in the guard, especially since their father passed away and their mother retired, although he fears that her extremism will get her into trouble in the future.

Selynnia (122)

Narael's older sister. A disciplined and devoted young woman who strives hard to meet her family's high expectations. She tends to get nervous and this has caused her to fail in numerous situations, so her confidence has been greatly diminished over time. Narael knows she has a lot of potential and strives harder than anyone else to improve. He is worried about her, but is confident that she can overcome her obstacles and achieve her goal. She has treated him very well since he was a child, so he is quite fond of her.

Nordock (385)

Narael's boss and founder of Nordock's Mercenaries. Known as "The Gambling King", he likes to take big risks that thanks to his luck, intuition and calculating mind manage to work out well on most occasions. Although he seems to be someone who isn't serious about his duties, his behavior changes completely in situations that really require it. He was a good friend of Othorien, Narael's father. He sees him as a second father, and is a man he respects a lot despite how much his impulses stress him out. They often clash because of the kind of methods he uses at times, plus he has a constant feeling that there are things he keeps hidden from him.

Markus (58)

Retired member of the guild who works as a hunter. He joined the guild when he was just a teenager, where he was trained and educated. Eventually he teamed up with Narael, Stellan and Guonyu, with whom he lived countless adventures and gained much fame in the mercenary world. He is a rough and foul-mouthed man who tends to intimidate people at first, but he isn't a bad guy. He currently lives in a cottage in a forest with Naoko, his adopted daughter, with whom he has visited the guild on occasion. Narael has always respected and admired him as a leader, despite his frequent brusqueness, and enjoys the few occasions in which they meet. He is one of the people who helped him to relax a bit his formal way of being.

Guonyu (67)

Former guild member. Shivari elder versed in druidic magic who once worked with Markus' group. He is an intelligent and wise man, admired by many renowned scholars, but is rather grumpy and sullen. He arrived at the guild while traveling to expand his knowledge, and ended up staying to work there. He retired from mercenary work years ago, and spends most of his time engaged in research locked up in his house, which is isolated in the middle of a forest. Although they have sometimes clashed over his rude behavior and had to mediate between the fights he had with Markus, Narael still considers him a good friend he can trust.

Stellan (103)

A moderately older eun'or expert in elemental magic, once part of Markus' crew. He continues to work in the guild, but currently takes care of the library and no longer participates in missions. He is a quiet and calm man who doesn't stand out much, but has a big heart. He was kidnapped many years ago and was about to be sold on the black market, but the people of the guild managed to rescue him in time, to whom he feels indebted. Narael always found him easy to talk to and their conversations were very fruitful and extensive, often accompanied by tea prepared by the eun'or himself. He was undoubtedly the most peaceful and quiet member of the group, so they very rarely got into arguments.

Laryna (28)

One of the highest ranking members of the guild. A talented mage with noble blood, belonging to a secondary branch of the von Hayrim of Firia. Tired of the constant power wars among the nobles, she left home when she turned 18 and eventually ended up in the guild. Narael hasn't had many problems with her, he knows that she is a person you can discuss matters with in a civilized and calm manner. Occasionally they share their impressions about the latest books they have read together with Stellan.

Ryouga (47)

One of the highest ranking members of the guild. A barbarian shivari with amazing strength. He is very friendly and easygoing and possesses a laugh so powerful that it can be heard from the other end of the building. He is very protective of the people of the guild, whom he considers his family. Nordock found him wandering aimlessly shortly after the shivari lost his family and gave him a new purpose in the guild. He is too loud and brutish for Narael's taste, but he finds him a fairly easy person to get along with. He wishes he wouldn't play along with Nordock's unpredictable impulses, which he often takes for laughs.

Clarissa (33)

The person in charge of the clinic and the sale of potions. A talented scientist and alchemist who performed immoral experiments. Nordock captured her during a mission and they made a deal for her to work in the guild, allowing her to experiment on some of the villains he catches. Narael has no knowledge of this fact, which he would clearly be against and would do his best to stop. The elf has always felt somewhat uncomfortable around the woman and doesn't quite understand why Nordock brought her to the guild instead of handing her over to the authorities. Still, he always tries to treat her with as much respect as possible and acknowledges that her potions have been a great help.

Story

Narael is the third son of Othorien and Shainyra Olowynn. They are known as a family of talented elven paladins who have been protecting Iris as part of her Personal Guard for generations. In addition, his paternal great-grandfather, Rhangyl, is part of the Elven Council.

He and his two sisters were strictly trained and educated from a young age to follow in the footsteps of the rest of their family. Although Narael didn't like to see it that way, he couldn't help but notice the competitive air that was forming especially from the eldest daughter, Taenya, nor the inferiority felt by the middle daughter, Selynnia.

When Narael was just a teenager, his father gave him the news that he was going to accompany him to Aesuria to start working in the mercenary guild of an old friend of his. This came as a great surprise to the young elf, since he had been raised with a very specific goal in mind since he was a child. But if that was what his father thought was best for him, he wasn't one to contradict him. Maybe that stage would only be something temporary that would serve him to better fulfill his duty in the future.

The trip was long, but they arrived at the designated place without major setbacks. Narael could observe that the technology outside his continent was more... modest, but it wasn't something he couldn't get used to. The general atmosphere of the place was very lively and noisy, very different from his usual day to day life. For a moment, he doubted whether someone like him would really fit in there.

Nordock, the elf who was in charge of the guild, was... different from what he had imagined. He expected someone more like his father, diligent, responsible... but the man in front of him almost seemed the opposite. Was this man really the one who would train him? His father perceived his doubts and assured him that this was a formidable man. Narael only sensed that his patience would be tested.

Guild work was very different from simply training at home. It was there that he truly realized his lack of experience and the importance of cooperating with his comrades if they were to preserve their lives. Although the difference in personality and origin sometimes clashed with a good part of his fellow members, he eventually managed to forge lasting bonds. And from there he formed the group he became closest with, which included Guonyu, a shivari druid, Stellan, an Eun'or mage, and Markus, a human warrior and the one who led the platoon. Before joining the guild he would never have imagined working with so many people of different races. They began to go on frequent missions together, living great adventures, and over time they forged a great reputation within the world that brought fame to the guild.

A few years passed, and Narael received devastating news. His father, a much admired and loved man, had died rescuing a large number of civilians from a major accident. A great guilt welled up inside the young elf. Although he had always kept in touch with his family, he didn't often have too much free time to visit them. Should he have given more priority to his relatives? Would it have made a difference? Probably not. But he was well aware that this was one of those times when he had to go home.

Nordock himself accompanied Narael back to his hometown. He had never seen the man so serious before, but it was understandable since the deceased was a good friend of his. But there was something else in his look... something he couldn't quite put his finger on. The whole family was devastated by the loss of Othorien. The elf did what he could to help his sisters and mother, he had to be strong for them and make up for not being there for them. Nordock became a great support for him in those moments of silent suffering.

Narael hesitated a lot in those moments about whether to continue working in the guild or to stay at home to support his family. Perhaps it was time to return to his initial goal of joining the guard. Nordock noticed his hesitation and assured him that he would respect his decision. After much consideration, Narael realized that what he really wanted was to continue working with his guild mates.

Present Day

Since their return some time later, Narael has thrown himself wholeheartedly into the job. He has continued to work hard over the years and climbed the ranks of the guild. Sadly, the weight of the years is heavier on some races, and his former adventuring companions gradually retired from the job. However, his relationship with Nordock became much closer and he became his most trusted man, often helping him run the place. To this day, he continues to work hard to move the place forward.
