Rosalind

Rosalind is the most ruthless politician you’ll ever have the misfortune to meet. She doesn’t care who she hurts to get her way, aside from perhaps her close family. Note the use of the word close. Only her wife, kids, and grandkids are safe. Beyond that? Well, if you’re in her way you’d better pick a god and pray because she’ll just steamroll right over you.

Rosalind is an incredibly stubborn woman. While this has proved useful in getting her motions passed over other people’s, it has its downsides. She cannot, will not, be wrong in anything. It takes a solid smack in the head to get her to change her mind, and that’s only if Eddie does it.

Unfortunately, Rosalind hasn’t quite gotten the concept of emotions and how they work. Despite being around for years, she’s not particularly well adjusted. Most of the time, she just ignores her emotions in favor of so-called logic (which is actually fueled by her subconscious emotions). She also dismisses other’s emotions, finding them frivolous and irritating rather than something that needs to be addressed.

Despite this, however, Rosalind is incredibly good at conceptualizing numbers and how they work. She’s quite skilled at understanding numbers - they’re simple, linear, and rarely open to interpretation. She likes it that way - while she’s fine with art and things, she’s not a huge fan of the subjective nature. Rosalind thinks it’s a pain to deal with.

Underneath her stoic, ruthless self, Rosalind is actually incredibly bitter about a whole lot of things. Most people don’t know this - after all, she’s heavily repressed that part of herself. However, it often influences her decisions around certain topics. She’s exceptionally sensitive about auracorn guardians and also the outlands. If she could never think about either of those things again, that would be great.

Rosalind was born to the Alistair, the previous auracorn guardian of the Golden Isles and some unknown other auracorn parent. She was raised on the border between the Outlands and the City (Alistair didn’t want people to know that they had a kid) and didn’t have a particularly great childhood.

As soon as she was old enough, Rosalind cut ties with Alistair and ran off into the city where she promptly learned about how money and government worked. It took her a few years, but she got herself elected. Rosalind thrived in government - people loved her, and she loved the power. So, she made a career out of it.

Rosalind met Eddie at some formal government event. In a rare lapse of judgement, she spent the entire time flirting with Eddie because this really wasn’t an important event at all. To her shock, her flirting worked and she ended up in a whirlwind romance. They got married really quickly, had kids, and somehow managed to raise a family while still being heavily involved with the government.

Unfortunately, Rosalind was not a particularly great parent. She’d never had a great parental role model, and this translated over into her being a very distant parent with incredibly specific visions for her kids. Both kids rejected these visions and cut her out of her life, just like she did with her parent. Rosalind doesn’t know how she feels about this at all.

Nowadays, she has thrown herself into her work with a vigor unmatched by even the youngest politicians. If her kids don’t want to see her, fine. She’ll do work instead. At least Eddie still loves her.
