"Oh, he's like a fine wine - gets better with age, but too much of him and you might find yourself waking up in a ditch with a headache and a wild tale to tell."

"Aldric? Oh, he's the reason why bards never run out of material! They say his adventures are so wild, even the gods keep a popcorn bucket handy."

"They say he's got more stories than a tavern has mugs."

There are plenty of stories to tell about the Galvan.

Unfortunately, they're all so inconsistent from one person to another, that they wouldn't have an idea how to describe him.

A former knight with a whole bunch of tales, a bard could live his whole life singing concerts about his life so far. While a writer could spend more than a lifetime writing books about his adventures.

A hero in one city, to the most wanted in another. He's been seduced by many, and married to a few. ...And then divorced by several. Some villages regard him a god, while some regard him the devil. He has a whole string of titles under his belt, some of them questionably long and then some so vague.*

Author's Note: One of my first OCs since childhood; commonly used his character and/or name for several RPGs and many of them influenced his story and trivia (Dragonfable, AQ Worlds, Fable, Dragon Age)

About

Personality

Galvan, once a hardworking knight and an aspiring hero influenced by his own father, his current personality has been shaped by his adventurous spirit and experience as a seasoned traveler. At the core, he believes he's a man with integrity (very little) and honor, instilled with duty due to his upbringing as a knight. Beneath his stoic exterior lies a warmth and humor that endears him to those around him (kind of).

Overtime he becomes both courageous and resilient, unafraid to face danger head-on in pursuit of his goals. He possesses resourcefulness, filled with wisdom and knowledge due to age, finding creative solutions to challenges he encounters on his journey. Despite his confidence and competence, Aldric remains humble and grounded, treating others with respect and empathy regardless of their station in life.
His adventurous nature has always helped his open mind and fuels his curiosity, driving him into exploring lands unknown to him and the city he once lived in. His adaptability allows him to thrive in the most diverse environments, while his natural charisma make him a small-time leader and storyteller.

While Galvan can be serious and focused when the situation demands it, he also possesses a playful and mischievous streak, often finding humor in the absurdities of life. He never fails making a couple of folks laugh. He enjoys banters, and harmless pranks to liven up darker moments.

History

Galvan hails from a lineage of renowned knights, with his father, Sir Cedric Aldric, being a celebrated figure in his hometown. Since a boy, he had been inspired by his patriarch and soon followed his footsteps to become a brilliant knight himself. However once he reached his manhood and succeeded in becoming a Litarian knight, he already became tired of his peers claiming to ride on his father's tailcoats. Even without it, Galvan asserts that he didn't need his father's support to get where he had been then and proceeded to perform admirably, but independently to prove his claim. For years he becomes tired of being singled out by the other knights, so he retired from knighthood as soon as the opportunity was given to him. Galvan hated being holed up in his city, conferring to his father to allow him to leave his home to become a traveler for the rest of his life. The retired knight passed on the family's honor onto his younger brothers before he left.

His years as a knight instilled in him a sense of discipline and stoicism, traits that served him well in the early days of his adventuring career. However, as he journeyed through distant lands and encountered people from diverse backgrounds, Galvan gradually learned to embrace openness and humor as essential tools for survival.

The story Now:

The next decade or two, Aldric was transformed into a new man. Although worn out, many old friends regard him as free-spirited and happy. Over time, Galvan's demeanor softened, and he became more lenient, patient, and reliable in his interactions with others. No longer driven by the need to impress, he focuses instead on being true to himself and fulfilling his obligations. Every time he comes home with a new chapter in his story. His tales are questionable, but it makes his stories much more interesting.

Trivia

  • Galvan has a list of titles and nicknames during the time of his prior adventures. (Under Spoilers)
    • > Sir Aldric of Litari: Galvan originated from the Litari Kingdom, his father was a famous knight and followed his footsteps and became an acclaimed knight himself.
      > Chicken Chaser: One of his first titles from a quest given to him by a city folk during his childhood. For some reason, it came back again when he left Litari and decided to earn some money by herding chickens to their coops.

      > Golden Eye: He claims the eye doesn't do anything. However his adventuring partners observes that he's unconsciously pulled into areas filled with valuables or large sums of money.
      > A "Shitter that's a pisser" : (Not consensually credited by HeartlessSpade) Regarding to the mass incident in the small town of Barrington, Galvan somehow managed to ruin a festival by soiling the giant community cauldron brew with a gallon of Peptol Bismol... the rest is self-explanatory.
      > Troll Seducer: Acquired by trying to lure a family of trolls from a cave in order to access the back end of a castle's entrance to fix a King's plumbing issue.
      > Nobhead (or Arseface): Hired to attract a whole town's attention by obnoxiously singing nursery rhymes in the middle of the night, hoping he could at least put all the children and babies to sleep for the night. Galvan really tried, okay? :(
      > Banana Dodger: He's allergic to bananas. ...The yellow fruity ones. Makes him really itchy and makes his eyes swell up.
      > The Village Pillow: A whole village discovers that burying their face into his chest immediately puts them to sleep (P.S. when I mean a whole village, I just mean me. (:  )
      > Chief Looming Bear of the Strongest Peak: After passing out in the middle of nowhere, he was saved and awakened by a hidden native tribe. They accepted Galvan as their own when he managed to fend off a pack of monsters and protected them. Soon enough he was renamed Chief for a short while before he recovered his old memories and left the group.
  • Allergic to bananas. Rip him with banana bread.
  • Permanently killed the shaman that's cursed him with the goat-related problem (Each time he touches a goat, it will turn into a bear that will attempt to kill him on sight).
    > Will ask around just about any existing shaman or wizard to figure out if he could revert the curse. Most of the time, he will forget about it and never ask until it happens again.
  • Loses his wallet
    > Always broke.
    > No matter how much you give him, it all gone!!!
    > Because he never has enough money, he's always having to do weird favors.
  • Has a pet dragon named Arthos.
    > Found in a rare chest that he found inside of a tree, discovered it has the potential to destroy the entire world.
    > Tamed it enough to not do that. Now Arthos just tries to spit fire at him whenever Galvan tries to take away his opportunity for a treat.
  • Has no permanent weapon.
    > Every time he picks up a weapon, it ends up getting stolen, broken, misplaced, or he just sells it because he's always broke.

    > From swords, spears, to bows and guns. Galvan can wield just about anything he's allowed to use.
    > Don't be surprised if he has your sword somehow.
  • Married to at least 5 different people.
    > All of these are purely out of obligation and many of his partners have their own mistresses to a point Galvan is simply forgotten.
  • Has a few retainers and servants that work for him in several cities.
    > All of them are simply wandering around aimlessly because they don't know what to do since he forgets they exist.
  • Me: 6295e3134a2cc14849200c8f0dbbafb0.png
  • Anyone could literally make up a story, Aldric is so old and sometimes forgetful, he probably thinks they're right.
    > Except for when he might end up in prison or tortured for it.

Relationships

Roy [ King ]

Galvan is only a little older than King Roy, and the first time he met his highness when he didn't have any grey hairs or wrinkles on his skin. When he was young, he was sometimes tasked to watch or guard him when he leaves his chambers. When he made sure there was at least small period of peace in the Kingdom, he took the opportunity to retire right away. He's met the King again, but this time outside of their Kingdom. Galvan treats him well purely out of obligation and habit, but he eventually opens up to him with his more natural character.

En  [ Prince ]

En was Roy's name bestowed to him in Litari. So to hear his name, he was interested in seeing an old acquaintance. However, instead of the familiar King he served for years, he instead sees a young boy who shares his face. How long was Galvan away from Litari? He had not heard about Roy's two children before, let alone the outrage and chaos throughout the Kingdom. Seeing En compelled Aldric to go back to Litari, trying to see if he could do anything to help his young Prince...

The Conqueror  [ Friend ]

The Conqueror was a powerful man throughout all Kingdoms. And Galvan knows about his power to destroy entire kingdoms if he decided to. However, he was one of few to withstand the Conqueror's might in the midst of battle. But for sure Galvan wouldn't be able to handle it the second time. Thankfully he spares him at that moment.
One day, he Aldric discovers a sword that emanated an aura that was similar to the Conqueror. He picks it up without any lasting consequences, but he spent at least two years pursuing the Conqueror so that he could give back his lost sword. Since then, Aldric has been in the Conqueror's good graces and hasn't tried to kill him each time they pass by each other.

[Revere] [ Rival ]

No matter how much Galvan has tried to convince him, Revere could not be coerced into sparing him. Perhaps Revere has some vendetta against him in the past. Unfortunately Aldric could not remember. He takes just about all the stops to ensure he stays away from Revere. Because for sure, Revere will shoot him or stab him on sight without a single reason.

[Charlemagne] [ ??? ]

The God of Music and Harmony! Galvan had been temporarily cursed by his power, when he tried singing. And apparently it was so terrible that Charlemagne himself had muted him for a least a whole month before the god forgot why he did that in the first place.
Charlemagne did feel bad for doing that, so he blesses him with a special sword as form of forgiveness. Unfortunately Galvan lost it. Typical for him.
