A cold and serious individual who is very distrusting of and reluctant to put faith in others, Carla believes she should only rely on herself, otherwise she would be weak at heart. Her cynical and harsh nature often pushes her into arguments with her more lax colleagues.

She does have a hidden soft side that only opens up to the few people that she feels particularly close to. She's particularly over-protective of her little sister Ruby. As well as this, she is very loyal to those she feels indebted to, in particular the Peculiar Ops founders, and works hard to be useful to them despite their pleas that she lighten up and enjoy her life.

She has a bit of a twisted idea of what constitutes as 'cute', and secretly fawns over things she considers to be so, an activity she feels aggressively embarrassed about if seen by others.

Background

Once a polite and cheerful non-Peculiar child, Carla's outlook on life changed for the worse following an incident that saw her younger sister, Ruby, lose a leg and reluctantly given a Peculiarity. Following the tragic event, she stumbled upon her parents discussing that they did not want to deal with Ruby's newfound circumstances and plotting to abandon her. Carla, deciding to protect her sister from this truth, took the young Ruby and ran away, living on the streets for some time. As a result, she became distrusting and cynical, rejecting any aid from others and engaging in theft to keep them both alive.

Eventually, following difficulties with Ruby's abilities, the pair were forcibly taken in by the founders of Peculiar Ops, who over time she began to trust and consider her real 'family'. Training under the founders, she became a skilled infiltration operative and assassin, working her way up to stand alongside them as a Deva agent. Alongside this, she studied attempting to find a cure of sorts for her sister's unstable abilities, going so far as to experiment on herself, which ended up causing the side-effect of her worsened eyesight and the development of her razor-sharp, regenerative teeth.

Synopsis

Having been used to solo missions, Carla is appalled to find Mavis placed under her wing by the Chief of Peculiar Ops, and is highly distrusting and suspicious of the girl's skills and intention. During their first mission together, they enter a research facility which she discovers may have resources that could possibly hold the key to helping Ruby. Uncharacteristically casting her intended mission aside, she jeaopardises her and Mavis's safety in order to experiment. In her impromptu experimentation however, she accidentally creates a peculiar lifeform that she names Artie, which she goes on to take in, believing that since she gave it life, she is therefore its mother.
