Varrek Zuriel
Basics
Personality
Varrek is an ex-homeless troll who lost his lusus and hive from an imperial drone strike. After sneaking around on the streets for a few perigrees, he was eventually taken in by a goldblood who needed an assistant. Varrek has always been a fairly introverted troll, socializing primarily with his lusus before it died, rarely speaking to strangers, and preferring to spend most of his time alone to recharge. During the time he was on the streets, he encountered many manipulative people who tried to use or hurt him, contributing to his strong distrust in others. While it's hard to earn, if someone does manage to gain Varrek’s trust, they will find that he is a very loyal, kind, and genuine troll with a small collection of hobbies and interests. Some of these things include old tv shows and movies he used to watch, action figure collecting, and singing. Varrek appears deceptively weak and defensless, but buried under his cowardly and pacifistic demeanour is a wealth of powerful telekinetic energy. Only in situations of extreme emotional stress can he tap into it, allowing him to lift, move, or crush objects with psychic force.

Story
Alternia
After barely clearing through his trials in the brooding caverns, Varrek and his capridae lusus ventured off into the nearest Alternian city to build a home for themselves in the poor "gutterblood neighborhood." In his early sweeps, Varrek lived a simple but enjoyable life with his lusus, occsaionally visiting his neighbors but not really forming strong bonds with anyone due to his more timid personality. Unfortunately, his neighborhood was marked for a weekly drone strike and around his 3rd sweep, his hive was targeted and blown to pieces. At the time, Varrek was out buying groceries when he came home to see his home in flames and his lusus crushed to death by the ceiling that had caved in. With the drones still patrolling the sky, he didn't have time to grieve, so he abandoned the wreckage and barely escaped down into the sewers below.
For the next few perigrees, Varrek spent his time wandering the streets of Alternia and its underground sewers. He encountered a number of people who claimed they wanted to 'help' him out of his situation, but they all tried to either cull him or sell him over to a drone. His latent telekinetic abilities, which he could only reliably tap into under immense emotional distress, managed to save him from death multiple times, but he was left scarred and terrified of others. Eventually, he started to avoid people completely...until a certain troll entered his life. While sneaking around another lowblood neighborhood, Varrek was confronted by an odd goldblood with an unreadable expression who asked that he come into his hive with him.
Varrek obviously refused, but the goldblood was insistent, claiming the drones were scheduled to sweep through the area very soon and he would be dead if he didn't take shelter immediately. The stranger removed his sunglasses and Varrek recognized him as one of his former neighbors- a troll named Raylan Vaneda. Varrek figured he relocated his hive after the bombing and resettled into this new neighborhood on the other side of town. Knowing this troll came from a similar background and suffered in a way like Varrek had, he was curious and slightly less on-edge. With a little more persuasion, Varrek reluctantly entered the hive with his guard up. Once inside, Varrek was shown a livefeed of the neighborhood, now overrun with imperial drones, to prove Raylan's credibility before being offered a deal: In exchange for his help around the lab as Raylan's assistant, he would keep Varrek safe and give him food and a proper home.
While Varrek was almost entirely against giving his trust to anyone else again, a small part of him had hoped that a former neighbor he once knew would be 'different.' Hesitantly, he accepted the offer, but it was mostly because going back outside meant getting targeted by drones again. It took a long time before they were both comfortable being in the same block and even longer before they could hold casual conversations with each other. But, as sweeps went by, Raylan eventually warmed up more to Varrek's presence, as did Varrek with Raylan's. Slowly but surely, they came to see eachother as best friends, learning more about the other as their trust was gradually built up and their fears and tensions slowly dissolved. From there, they only grew closer and eventually fell into a pale relationship with each other. Nowadays, the two still live together in Raylan's hive, a place that Varrek has started to call his new home.
The Land of Bone and Blood
Varrek’s land is the Land of Bone and Blood (LoBaB). The land consists of various large, skeletal structures left behind by giant beasts of ancient times. These massive, intricate structures are where many villages on LoBaB are located and where the consorts, white beavers with sunken red eyes, have made their home. The design of each village may vary greatly depending on what kind of bone it is built into- with some being wide and sprawling and others being very tall and narrow. Other parts of the planet are home to fleshy forests, mysterious monuments of the past, dark mountian ranges, and grayish-red clouds in the dim sky. Locals report that the blood ocean rises a little higher every day which has many consorts concerned about the shrinking amount of land. There appears to be no other liquid that is naturally present on this planet other than blood, which, despite all looking the same, apparently comes in many varying “flavors.” Varrek's denizens are the twins Eleos and Soele, a large, skeletal serpent with one head on both ends of its body. As the page of blood within his Sgrub game session, it is Varrek's mission to keep his team together, to learn the nature of what relationships are and try to become comfortable with them, and to save LoBaB and its inhabitants from eventually being flooded by the rogue denizen, Soele.
The Cavalier
The Cavalier was a rustblood troll who existed during the time of the Great Rebellion. He was well-known for his savagery and unusually powerful telekinetic abilities that allowed him to bend the blood of his foes kill them from the inside. Despite being a rustblood, people who witnessed him reported his strength rivaling that of bluebloods. Some compared his fighting style to that of cavalreapers, soldiers who rode atop their mounts to joust, but he preferred bludgeoning his enemies with a long, thick club while mounted atop his loyal capridae lusus. He earned his title as "The Cavalier" for his fearsome presence as he rode into battle atop his lusus as a team. During the time of the Great Rebellion, he was able to fell several important highblood figures, including a crazed indigoblood madwoman, before he was eventually fatally wounded in battle. In the arms of his matesprite, he bled to death. His capridae lusus and matesprite left the battle together to take revenge on the troll who took his life so that she may avenge his soul and bring him peace in death.
Related
Varrek had a good relationship with his capridae lusus. They were a kind beast that took good care of Varrek when he was young and used to cuddle with him in the winter to keep him warm. While they might be gone now, Varrek won’t forget the good times they shared together.
After a shakey introduction to the goldblood that involved being forcefully brought into his hive to live with him as his assistant, Varrek gradually came to realize Raylan only had his best interests in mind and genuinely cared about the wellbeing of the rustblood. With time, he came to trust Raylan, first as a close friend, and then eventually as a moirail.
As Esmera is close friends with Raylan, Varrek met her not long after Raylan. While he was quick to distrust her at first, like with Raylan, he eventually started to warm up to Esmera's presence and slowly began to trust her. Later on during the game of Sgrub, he slowly developed flushed feelings for her, but he kept quiet, not wanting to hurt their friendship.
