About

Taru Sharaguna is on the rise to become one of the most famous, most popular monster hunters since the legendary Arcis Shinigami himself--those are big shoes to fill. Yet, part of the allure is how mysterious he is, rarely working on other hunting teams and keeping his cards close to his chest. He answers all interview questions carefully, as if reluctant to reveal a secret, a key into his past.

Those who know him outside of his monster hunting persona know him to be a huge dork, a mega dad friend, and an overall amazing friend with a tragic past. Even still, it can be hard to ignore the absolute force he is in the battlefield. He'll blow everyone away.

  • Wings are based on barn owls. Wings can be veiled/hidden with ease.
  • In his more energized state, his eyes glow pale yellow, and yellow eyes will appear along his face, arms, and neck, and feathers.
  • Isn't particularly shy about his scars. Just don't ask about them.
  • Not a body builder, but is incredibly fit and fairly muscular.
  • He has a high nostril piercing on his right nostril, and an eyebrow piercing on his right eyebrow. Let's be real, though, I forget them all the time.

Personality

Friendly Reserved
Polite Blunt
Clever Foolish
Sensitive Tough
Brave Timid
Careful Reckless
Sincere Deceptive
Diligent Lazy
Calm Irritable
Humorous Serious

A bold and brave up and coming monster hunter, he's got plenty of confidence in himself and his abilities--sometimes too much confidence--unless you brush against the wrong topic. He tends to stick to himself and keep his cards close to his chest--but friends get to see the lovable goofball he lets himself be. It's hard not to feel safe around him.

Likes

Reptiles

He has an affinity for the scaly and slithery that many would turn and run from. If you can't handle snakes, you won't like his beloved ball python Percival.

Citrus + other Fruits

Especially oranges, but he won't shy away from grapefruits for breakfast or even the most mouthpuckering lemons. A sucker for blueberries, especially muffins? Say less.

Monster Hunting

And all the workouts and training that come with it! Between you and me, he has a bit of a bloodlust.

Singing and Dancing

If he weren't a monster hunter, he'd be wanting to start a boy band. He's great at parties. He loves R&B, but can rock out to alt jams as well.

Dislikes

Cold

Angels become loopy, snuggly, purry messes if they're exposed to too much cold for too long. And frankly? He'd rather not embarass himself like that.

Feeling Trapped/Helpless

No. Never again.

Doctors

Ever since the Incident, trying to get him to see any kind of doctor is like pulling teeth. He hates admitting he needs help in the first place.

Invasive/Pushy People

He's hanging off to the side for a reason. And no, he's not interested in hooking up with some random strangers, either. Still, people just won't leave him be...

Moodboard

Powers

Light Manipulation

Can create a lance (or other weapons) made of pure light energy, create heat-seeking lances of light energy, exploding lances, chains, create light energy blasts, light puddles, or orbs. He can also manipulate lights to glow brighter. He doesn't need a preexisting light source in order to do this, though attacks do tend to be stronger in the daytime.

Portal Making

He can open portals to different locations, and use magic to repoen portals others have made (depending on how long ago said portals were made). Opening portals between realms is more difficult, though it's notably more difficult to open portals from the Middle/Human Realm to the High/Angel realm than it is the other way around. He can also close his own portals on command.

The Entity

Can call upon the entity residing in him to give him more power, boosted strength, and pain resistance. Calling upon it creates a blast of light emanating from him in a radius, which can obliterate most objects, knock people backwards, and give burns. In this form, glowing whitish-yellow eyes appear on his face, arms, and wings, and his eyes glow bright. Extra eyes may also appear in the air around him, and he's surrounded in a blazing aura of light. (Note that these extra eyes do not blink, and though they can expand his peripheral vision it can occasionally be overwhelming.) In this state, Taru has boosted strength, and is far more bloodthirsty than usual. Calling upon this form has a steep cost; it saps at his strength, and when he returns to his normal form, he'll have burns where the extra eyes appeared, obtained injuries will hit him hard, often culimating in him passing out.

Spellcasting

He's learned a wide repository of spells, with a special focus in light-based spells. Spellcasting isn't exceptionally draining on him, though every spell does have an energy cost, so he has to be careful about how many he casts in quick succession.

Photosynthesis

Not in the classic sense, but he will be more energetic on sunny days, and his attacks will have a slight boost.

Summary

26315600_mMzIQwNUFt2VWxz.jpg

The son of a medical researcher and a daycare operator, he cared deeply for his little sister Tara. His father worked far away, at the Angelos Research Facility a three day drive away, so they mostly communicated through letters and occasional visits home. Still, they grew up perfectly happy... until a letter was sent home, from their father warning them to leave as quickly as possible, that he'd catch up with them soon, but to notwait up for him. Not to trust anyone else in the Angelos Facility uniform. Ultimately, he never made it home, and the letter came too late.

Before they could even finish packing, Facility workers were upon them. In their attempts to escape, Taru's mother was killed, and Taru and Tara were chased into the city and separated. Ultimately, Taru was captured, and he never saw Tara again.

The Facility

Taru's convinced that hell is real, and it's name is the Angelos Facility. The pediatric research center his father worked for? A front, for something much darker; sick and twisted experiments on angels. Humans his father worked with--humans they'd had over for dinner, who Taru had known as family-friends--busied themselves with kidnapping angel children, tearing scalpels into kids his age or younger, injecting them with serums for their tests and burying their fatalities in unmarked graves. The only bright spot was meeting other angel kids--and even then, each little light was snuffed out one by one, until it was eventually Taru's turn on the operating table. As part of an experiment to see what would happen if a dark-aligned being was exposed with light, his chest was sliced open by the feared Doctor Dread, a syringe full of light-serum injected directly into his heart. The pain over the next few days, as his DNA was more or less rewritten, had him slipping between unconsciousness and screaming fits. Once it finally settled, though, he was regarded as a success... which only meant being forced to use his powers until he collapsed, x-rayed and examined more to see how the serum had spread and affected his body. Even a brief surgery on his eye, to analyze how and why they'd changed from brown to gray.

He was one of only a handful of angels to survive the experiments, and one of fewer to survive the subsequent escape lead by himself, Ken Shinigami, and Luke Shinigami. With the Facility destroyed, he set off on his own, hoping to find his beloved baby sister wherever she may be.

The Realm's Leading Monster Hunter

A lone kid wandering the realm alone? That wouldn't do. Taru was taken in by a well-meaning family and sent to school, giving him stability but also less freedom to search for his sister. Around this time he was recruited into a monster hunting program, encouraged to use his immense powers for the good of the realm by slaying the large beasts that plagued the country sides. As partof the program, however, he was surrendered to the Monster Hunting Foster Program, shipped off to different 'sponsor families' to partake in training with different teachers at different locations. Bouncing from family to family, school to school, shuffled into different forming teams under different managers, he began to make a name for himself as an unexpectedly strong junior hunter, given increasingly dangerous jobs and overcoming every obstacle before him. But he found working on teams more detrimental than it was worth--having backup was only worth so much when everyone was vying to be the shining star, tripping one another up to appear the best, even if it meant injuring one another in front of man-eating beasts. And managers? Please, they only cared about raking in the cash, and would often take 'insurance cuts' and then kick you to the curb if you actually got injured. It didn't take too long for Taru to decide to strike out on his own, picking and choosing his own hunts and continuing the search for his sister.

Then all hunters were called into action, when the legend Arcis Shinigami was reported kidnapped by a growing dark force. On the search for the source, he ran into his old friends Ken and Luke--and their new friends, their hero team. It didn't take much convincing to get him to join them back in the human realm where they worked--the stability of staying with his friends, while keeping the thrill of monster hunting and fighting villains, all with the freedom to go search for his sister with help? Hiding his wings most of the day was well worth all that.

Ken Shinigami

Best Friend

They were transported to the Facility in the same van, though by the time they escaped they were far different people. They had the closest thing one could get to a friendship, trapped in that place, and a few tears were shed when they ultimately chose to part ways after the Facility's destruction. After all, they couldn't be sure if they'd ever see each other again.

And yet... they found each other, years later. Once again, they were far different people than when they'd last met, but somehow it was like almost no time had passed at all between them. It didn't take long for them to become close friends again, for Taru to choose to move REALMS to be with him and his team.

By the time he realized he had something akin to a crush on the boy, Ken was already seeing something else. This wasn't his first time dealing with that, though, and he doubted it'd be the last. Even still, he values Ken's friendship more than almost anything.

Luke Koori-Shinigami

Best Bros

It's crazy how much Luke had change since they last met. Back then, he was the serious one, the quiet one, mumbling mantras to himself and Ken to keep himself calm. Now? He was a loud, boistrous, flame wielding goofball who loved adventure, action, and throwing himself headfirst into anything that came at them.

Well. Who said he had to be a goofball alone? Taru's more than willing to relax with a few late night adventures in his car, checking out new scenes and blasting pop punk as loud as his speakers will allow!

Alana Ritroso

Homies

It's always nice to have a friendly face, especially when he's moving realms and unfamiliar with the... well... EVERYTHING. Alana was quick to help him get adjusted to the Middle Realm, and before long they were exchanging music recs, teaching each other recipes, and talking the night away. He's always down to be a listening ear as she rants about bullies and restrictive parents, and he's grown a deeper appreciation for nature after listening to her lectures on local wildflowers and insects.

Arcis Shinigami

Former Idol

It was hard to grow up in the High Realm and not see Arcis Shinigami as a legendary hero. He saved their whole realm, after all, and the profession of Monster Hunting was never the same after he left his mark. Taru never worshipped him as much as other hunters did, but he always had a bit of reverence. All that quickly went away when Ken and Luke confided in him about the years of abuse they faced by his hand, revealing just how much of a monster the former hunter really was. Now he feels nothing but disgust seeing pictures of the man. You know what they say--never meet your heroes.

He'll become the top hunter, alright. And the instant he does, he's using his platform to expose the filth that lies under Arcis Shinigami's thin veneer.
