Ua's Links
Ua, like most of the pride, greatly admires Akilia. In fact, it would not be far-fetched to say she finds Akilia awe-inspiring. Though Ua doesn't understand how being an Oracle works, she certainly respects the role, probably more so because the Oracle is so isolated from every other member of the pride. She listens intently to Akilia's words when she is present, very curious to understand any element of how her position in the pride works. Ua also is excited that Akilia has even noticed her, since she is not often present in the pride and shouldn't be expected to know everyone all that well. To have Akilia praise her for taking care of her sister makes Ua feel all the prouder of doing it, though she does wonder why Akilia makes a point to say anything. After all, it's the right thing to do, since Jino is her sister. However, ignoring the strange way that Akilia broaches the subject, Ua is pleased that someone notices how much she does for her sister, even if she doesn't realize it's a bit of an ego boost.
Akilia has absolutely no feelings for Ua; her life would go unaltered whether or not Ua was a member of the pride. However, Ua doesn't seem to be suspicious of her, so that is one benefit to her being around. At the very least, she serves as one more pawn spouting about her innocence, or so Akilia's mother says. And the Learner Healer is kind enough, so Akilia can't really fault her all that much. Another benefit to Ua that both Akilia and her mother have also recognized is that she keeps Jino under control. While Jino doesn't serve as a direct threat to Akilia, she is a loose cannon, and Akilia would prefer to avoid having her mess up Akilia's duty to the Isle of Roses. Since Ua is the only who can seemingly control her, Akilia has made a point to praise her for that whenever she gets the chance, so that hopefully she will continue to keep Jino under control.
Ua loves Jino. She is her sister; how could she not? And yet, the older they grow, the more distant Ua feels from her. Jino has pushed away almost everyone in the Isle of Roses, and Ua is forever grateful that her sister has not locked her out of her life as well. However, as of late, it feels like Jino is growing away from Ua, despite not closing off to her. She can tell that something has changed with Jino; though she is still determined to figure out who their parents are so that she can confront them about the decision they made, Jino has obviously also found something else. In truth, it has left Ua feeling a little lost. She has always done her best to support her sister, and in the process also often isolated herself from the rest of her pride. Though she is happy to see her sister doing better, it leaves Ua feeling a little lost and aimless as she now tries to figure out how to form proper relationships with the rest of her pride since Jino does not need her to the same extent she once did, and makes Ua wonder if she did for sure do the right thing by hiding the fact that she knows who their mother is.
Laani absolutely adores her daughter Ua. She is so proud of her, seeing what an amazing lioness and Learner Healer that she is growing into. Laani wishes more than anything that she could tell Jino and Ua the truth about their parentage, wishes she could tell them that she is their mother, but she knows that would put her at risk. Nasaba wouldn't be an issue, as he is very forgiving (probably too forgiving) of typically forbidden romances, especially once someone seeks his approval for it (which he gives out far too easily). The bigger issue is the taboo nature of Oracles having babies, because at this point, she can't risk endangering the pride by getting kicked out. Otherwise, they will have no tether to the ancestors, and no one will be there to try and thwart Akilia's plots. So instead she simply must watch from afar and savor the few moments she gets to spend with Ua, leaving the interactions they could have as mother and daughter for her dreams.
If they didn’t bare a resemblance and hadn’t been found together, Cuore never would have guessed that Ua and Jino were related. Though he’s intimidated and at times frightened of her sister, Cuore adores and treasures Ua. The small cub is much more perceptive than her sister, giving off a much more mature and peaceful demeanor. It helps that the young lioness has also expressed an interest in Cuore’s role in the pride. She is intrigued any time Cuore enters the nursery to check on them for health purposes, and is eager to take in any knowledge she can. On a few different occasions, Cuore has heard Ua reference some healing thing she heard or saw him doing while she and Jino play as if they are their own pride. Cuore would do anything to protect her, and often finds himself getting roped into her games, which are a lot more like puzzles than like a game of tag, or some other physical game. It is one of his favorite things to do in his spare time. However, Ua has a tendency to ask him the hard questions, which Curoe always struggles to answer. When she asks why her parents might have abandoned her, he is at a loss for a response, because he wonders the same thing; how could two lions leave behind such a sweet girl? She also is a very sharp cub, and sometimes her assessments catch Cuore off guard, though he also notes they would make her a good Healer some day. One time, when she had asked him to help her see the sunrise, she broke the silence to say, "You know, Jino may seem angry and scary sometimes, but she's really just sad. I think it hurts her more that our parents than gone. Should it hurt me more?" Cuore didn't know what to say to that, and fumbled through a response. In the end, Ua simply ended the conversation thread by saying, "It's okay, you don't need to have an answer for me. No one knows everything." Sometimes Cuore has to wonder if she really is a cub, or if she is some ancient spirit simply trapped in a cub's body; thankfully he's seen her play and frolic with Jino, so he feels safe saying she is what she appears to be, and is simply smarter than most would expect a cub to be. If Cuore has only grown more distant from Jino, then he has only grown closer to Ua now that she has grown. It helps, of course, that she has chosen to follow the path to become a Healer. Though she is Mzatamo's Learner, not his, Cuore still plays a large part in her training, and still views her as a niece of sorts to him. He is very protective and proud of Ua, especially when it comes to how she has handled Jino and their past. Somehow, she still manages to stay optimistic and tolerate Jino, even when Jino seems to be trying everything to push everyone away from her. Her patience and dedication to her sister is something that inspires Cuore, reminding him that there is always hope; though she doesn't know it, Ua's kindness is constantly surprising Cuore, as it seems to know no bounds. On more than one occasion, a wise word from the far too intelligent Learner has also served to be given at just the right time, despite her having no way of knowing what Cuore is thinking at the moment.
