Fonia, due to her upbringing, is vocally displeased by Chip's presence amongst the crew, as he is a lowly fishman. She looks down on him with prejudice and is frequently spurting out demeaning microaggressions against him and his kind.
Although she talks mad shit about how superior she is, she is of course also terrified by the slightest aggression he offers in return, fleeing and crying to the nearest person about how violent and horrible he is. Chip being as patient as he is, this tends to only happen when she insults his carpentry.
Chip generally tries to ignore Fonia, despite her prejudiced behaviour against him, seeing her as little more than a narrow-minded child. He has suggested throwing her overboard a few times, though out of empathy as a fellow Devil Fruit user, he would be unlikely to follow through with this.
He has come to genuinely regret his encouragement of initially taking her hostage, something he has vocalised to her in a sort of apology, but kept to himself that the regret stems from the fact the event led to her continuing to be around him.
With high society's strong prejudices against Fishmen, Prince found himself regrettably cautious around Chip initially, as the first one he'd ever encountered in person. As a kind-hearted boy, he was careful not to assume the things he'd been raised to believe by bad people were true, but was hesitant regardless simply due to not having anything else to go off of.
Chip's own upbringing and personality being so radically different did not make opening up to him any easier, Prince finding his efforts to befriend him stifled by the stark contrast of their experiences. This weighed heavily on his heart and shame plagued his mind, worrying that he was unable to overcome the prejudices of his upbringing and that he was an unfair and cruel person. Eventually however, Chip himself reassured him that his efforts had not gone unnoticed, bringing him a sense of relief.
Going forward, Prince continues to be respectful to Chip, perhaps overly so, despite their culture gap. Despite being unnerved by the depravity of some of the Fishman's anecdotes, he nonetheless admires the adventurous aspects and that he lives the way he wants. He is also greatly impressed with his carpentry skills and is eager to give him a hand if he ever needs it.
Chip did not think much of Prince at first, thinking the boy a passing fascination of Ryuuda's (a pet perhaps?) and dismissive of his potential as a pirate, due to coming from prim and proper human nobility. However, he was not actively aggressive towards him, at most rolling his eyes and shooing the boy off when he got in his way, much like those he encountered in his time as a carpenter.
Despite Prince trying to make small talk often, Chip was well aware of the distance between them, believing the boy's hesitation to stem from the typical prejudices. Over time however, as much as it continued to irritate him somewhat, he acknowledged that Prince was at least making an effort to overcome those ideas. Alongside this he gradually accepted the work he was putting into piracy as well, though he still believes him to be too soft-hearted to last.
Although this closed the distance between them, the two are still starkly different men, Chip being an experienced, downtrodden and crass man whereas Prince is an optimistic and polite greenhorn, so they struggle to find common interest and grow closer. As Prince has loosened up on their travels, he's at least grown a bit fonder of the boy, and they can comfortably enjoy drinks together, with a drunken Chip more prone to teasing Prince as a 'little boy'.
Ryuuda thinks of Chip as a talented shipwright and a good friend. Due to the fishman's enthusiasm and understanding of his childish scribbles (which he himself thinks of as sublime blueprints), there is no carpenter he trusts more than him with care of his ship, prompting him to recruit Chip into his crew.
The two generally get along well and Ryuuda loves sharing drinks and having fun with his pal. He is oblivious to how pushy he can be towards Chip however, believing him to be on board with all of his ideas and being frustrated when they actually disagree.
As a carpenter, Ryuuda was the first client to instantly accept Chip with no prejudice against him as a fishman, a first impression that stuck with him. This led to Chip eagerly accepting his work against the wishes of his tutor, who was strictly against working with pirates. Upon being invited to join Ryuuda's crew, he happily accepted, glad for the chance to regain some semblance of his old life.
The two get along well, fast becoming drinking buddies and getting into drunken mishaps together. However, on ocassion he finds Ryuuda's personality grating and doesn't care for his careless treatment of the ship. He believes his friend needs to take his role as Captain a bit more seriously.
Chip finds artistic inspiration in his captain's crude and childish design ideas and is always keen to bring them to life to the best of his ability. This includes the more ill-advised concepts, which the carpenter will only come to admit the poorness of after the fact.
Ryuuda once saw Mimi catch a really big fish. He was super impressed and asked her to do that for him, like, every day forever. She said okay and now she's a member of his pirate crew. It's that simple!
Equally carefree and scatterbrained, Ryuuda and Mimi enjoy a very simple friendship with no trace of manipulation or deception. They are clear, straightforward, and accepting of each other, forming a rather innocent bond of mutual trust.
Mimi was fishing once, when this big old guy walked up and told her how good at fishing she was. She was flattered and then he asked her to come work for him, fishing on his pirate ship, which came with free room and board, so she agreed. It's that simple!
With their similar carefree and naive personalities, Mimi and Ryuuda get along well. They both speak their mind with each other freely, not the kind of people to tell lies or fret over things, so they have a solid trust for one another.
She refers to him exclusively as 'Boss'.
Ryuuda found Peacock to be a thrilling opponent, forming great respect for her skills. Although she sought to defeat him for his bounty, she managed to catch his attention enough that he invited her to join his crew after defeating her, an offer he was joyous to see her accept.
With a mutual respect for each others' strength, the pair get along quite well, becoming good chums and enjoying drinks together frequently. Although she occasionally tries to stand in the way of his headstrong ideas, more often than not she soon relents and joins in, which makes Ryuuda feel encouraged.
He has a deep trust in her intellect and relies on her information and wisdom in times of crisis, trusting her insights without question (as much he can without fully grasping them that is.)
Peacock initially considered Ryuuda just another target, seeking to cash in his bounty after his supposed kidnapping of Prince. She underestimated his strength and the two found themselves locked in a surprisingly difficult battle. After learning the truth of the incident, she was won over by his strength and charisma, and agreed to join his crew.
Although she is generally a more balanced individual, Peacock finds Ryuuda's childlike excitement somewhat infectious, and she often can't help herself but cheerfully follow along with him. While she makes effort to be a voice of reason towards her captain, she knows when she has her work cut out for her and accepts giving him his way as the easier solution a lot of the time.
As her role on the ship is to provide the captain with whatever information he needs, she feels like she's let him down in times she comes up short. She also panics somewhat when Ryuuda fails to understand her advice and respond in an unwise manner.
Expecting to simply kidnap a snobby nobleman's snobby daughter for quick cash, Ryuuda got a lot more than he bargained for with Fonia. He was almost immediately fed up with her complaining and attitude, regretting his choice of hostage and tempted to go back on his plan altogether.
Worse still, when he thought he'd finally be rid of her, the brat insisted upon staying aboard his ship instead of returning home. Though entirely opposed to this, Ryuuda found himself stuck after promising Prince not to harm her. He does not accept Fonia as an official member of his crew, but allows her to stay aboard. At least until he can figure out a way to ditch her...
Her attitude continues to infuriate him, and he always take the bait she lays out in effort to assert his position as captain, oblivious to the fact she's manipulating him with ease. If he had his way, he'd leave her in the brig.
Fonia considers Ryuuda a bumbling oaf and does not understand how a foolish peasant like him has come to be captain of a ship, let alone command the respect of a crew. He epitomises the stereotypical idea of a pirate in her mind: a loud, obnoxious drunkard with little intelligence who only thinks of causing trouble.
She has no respect for him, but at the very least takes joy in how easily manipulated he is. As well as making him allow her to stay aboard, she has tricked him into doing her chores and even changing the ship's course to her benefit on several ocassions, and with great ease.
If she could only convince someone else to mutiny on her behalf, she's confident he would be easily overthrown.
Mimi is the only member of the crew unfazed by Kotakota's mischief, being the kind of person who takes the unexpected in stride. Whenever made the target of a prank, she'd constantly miss the point and not really register herself as a victim, simply happy to be having fun with a new friend.
After losing interest in trying to get a rise out of Mimi, Kotakota stopped pranking her and instead became her best buddy, the two often enjoying each other's carefree company and singing silly improvised songs together. Mimi's been keen to teach her how to fish, but the younger girl hasn't yet developed the patience for it.
Mimi's naivety often leads to Kotakota tricking her into participating in her mischief and getting them both into trouble, but doesn't seem to mind. She finds the name of Kotakota's Devil Fruit extremely confusing, and also mishears her name as Takotako, nicknaming her 'Lil' Octopus' as a result.
Kotakota intially found herself frustrated by Mimi as the only crew member seemingly immune to being pranked, never growing frustrated and often mistaking the prank at her expense as something nice. As well as this, she was angered by the dull-witted angler's inability to wrap her head around her name, or that of her Devil Fruit power.
Eventually however, Kotakota grew to appreciate her carefree attitude and the pair are now best friends, the young girl seeing Mimi as a sister and often roping her into unwittingly participating in her mischief rather than subjecting her to it. Now happy with her nickname, she greatly appreciates Mimi's company and willingness to do just about anything together with her, ensuring that she never feels lonely in her new life as a pirate.
The two also have an integral professional relationship aboard the ship, as it is down to Mimi to provide her with ingredients for the kitchen.
Ramsbane claims that he thinks of Kotakota as a total pest, constantly getting in the way of both his work and relaxation with her continuing mischief. His angry outbursts in response to her behaviour only serve to fuel her further, as she revels in the hilarity of his reactions.
Despite his irritation, he has an unadmitted soft spot for children, and will often catch himself treating her with sweets out of habit. He won't admit his care for her to anyone, least of all to her. He is also very aware of her youth, as a doctor knowing that she is still developing physically, and is determined to make sure she is cared for correctly as she grows into adolesence.
Kotakota greatly enjoys pestering Ramsbane due to his grouchy nature, finding his angry reactions to her pranks to be super hilarious.
Although he's often the one to scold her the loudest and strictest of the crew, she's fully aware of his soft-heartedness and doesn't take his chastising seriously at all.
She sees him as an uncle within the crew's family dynamic, knowing that despite his grumpy attitude, he'll take care of her in times of need and that he can easily be twisted into spoiling her rotten.
As a jovial and chidlike fellow himself, Ryuuda is the type of person to get along with children easily, and so had no qualms with finding the stowaway Kotakota aboard his ship. He found her energetic and mischievous nature a source of great delight, and took a shine to her quickly as his little buddy.
Due to this affection, he was initially reluctant to return her to her homeland, and had to be convinced to do so by the rest of his crew, as they insisted it was in her best interest. When this turned out not to be the case, leading to his crew's rescue of the girl from her own family, Ryuuda's resolve as a captain was hardened, determined to trust his gut more firmly. He insistantly took the girl into his crew, adamant that no one would make him question this decision.
Having welcomed her aboard, Ryuuda continues to enjoy playing with Kotakota, but surprisingly is also uncharacteristically sure to make sure she takes responsibility as a member of the ship's crew, eventually making her their official cook. He is too embarassed to admit that he thinks of her as his own, hoping to teach and raise her better than her own family did, oblivious to the fact that she similarly looks up to him with adoration as her father.
Kotakota was instantly fascinated with Captain Ryuuda when she first stowed away on his ship. His friendly and cheerful demenaour was a stark contrast to what she expected from pirate captains, and she found herself getting along with him extremely easily, as if he were a big kid her own age.
She soon realised however that she had underestimated him, seeing his strength firsthand as he led the charge to rescue her from her tribe's punishments upon her return home. Her fascination quickly became admiration and she began to really look up to him, both as a captain and as a father figure, and endlessly grateful to him when he took her into his crew officially.
She's always delighted to have fun with her captain, including playing countless pranks on him. His loud and exaggerated reactions bring her immense satisfaction and a feeling of validation. She is hesitant to admit how much his affections and approval means to her, but she does make special effort to impress him, particularly with her cooking.
After seeing firsthand her family's treatment of her, Prince has come to see a lot of himself in Kotakota, recalling the oppression he faced from his own kin. He has become quite protective of her as a result, not wanting her youth to be as miserable as his own had been.
As such, he makes effort to discourage her from picking up bad habits from the more eccentric members of the crew, hoping to put her on the right path, treating her like a little sister surrounded by bad influences.
Though he's often victim to her pranks and takes it upon himself to scold her, he never gets truly angry with her because his heart is simply warmed by the sight of her enjoying herself in a safe environment among their surrogate family. The two share a similar appreciation for their captain, Ryuuda, as a father figure.
Kotakota hides her admiration for Prince under layers of mischief, teasing and playing practical jokes on him often. She's extremely grateful to him for helping save her life in the past, but is shy and has trouble expressing her thanks genuinely.
She often finds her mischief subject to his criticism, thinking him a bit of a killjoy when she's simply having fun. However, due to her admiration, she often won't fight him and simply pouts and relents, at least for a time.
Fully aware and appreciative that he cares for her wellbeing, she is not beyond taking advantage of him to get things she wants, playing up her position as a cute kid.
Between her unspoken appreciation for his actions and his frequent scolding of her for misbehaving, she's come to view him as the big brother figure amidst her new family, especially as they similarly admire their saviour and father figure, Ryuuda.
Ryuuda and Ramsbane are old drinking buddies, at least as far as he's concerned. In reality, the two are prone to arguing over Ryuuda's behaviour, both present and past.
Following the accident in his homeland, Ryuuda's body was left scarred, untreated until he escaped to the next island and stumbled into the care of Ramsbane's back-alley clinic.
He initially found the doctor to be a stick-in-the-mud and continuously disobeyed his orders, but eventually the two formed something of a friendship over the course of his treatment.
Once he had recovered and decided to become a pirate, Ryuuda left the clinic and sailed off without saying goodbye, in a deluded idea of their masculine bond (neglecting the fact he'd also failed to pay his bill).
Eventually needing a doctor for his crew, Ryuuda returned to recruit Ramsbane, proudly declaring his genuine respect for his skills. Met with hostility, he believes the doctor needs to let bygones be bygones and continues to try and pal around with him like nothing ever happened.
Ramsbane finds his friendship with Ryuuda to be contentious, finding him to be an immature annoyance. Though he can loosen up on him after a few drinks, he'd certainly have strangled his Captain within an inch of his life on several occasions if not for his hippocratic oath.
This stems from when Ramsbane took him into his care after finding him heavily scarred. With his boisterous and restless nature, Ryuuda proved to be a difficult patient, becoming a source of great irritation to the doctor, though they gradually formed something of a bond over the course of his care.
After Ryuuda skipped out on his medical bills and left town however, Ramsbane was left in deeper debt and began to curse his name. When his patient eventually returned, Ramsbane was appalled that he'd have the nerve to try and recruit him into his pirate crew, but accepted on the condition he helped him reunite with the Kuja Pirates and pay off his debts with treasure.
Although he was initially in awe of their nature as an undead, Ryuuda was quickly won over by their skill and experience as a pirate, to the point where he doesn't even think to acknowledge them as anything out of the ordinary anymore, something Jinks quietly appreciates.
Ryuuda very much relies on Jinks' expertise, depending on them as a combatant and trusting them with taking command of the rest of the crew in his absence. Despite his ego, he would very nearly consider Jinks near his equal.
Oblivious to their preference for solitude in their downtime, Ryuuda will often try to rope Jinks into having a laugh and partying with the rest of the crew, believing they need to lighten up and enjoy life more, not seeing the irony in this sentiment.
As a veteran pirate, Jinks believes the orders of a pirate crew's captain are absolute; to even question them would be mutinous. This belief persists even though their current captain is something of a buffoon.
In instances where Ryuuda's decision-making is unquestionably poor or foolish, Jinx will follow his orders to the best of their abilities despite any personal disagreement.
Although the pair have completely contrasting personalities, Jinks shows nothing but respect for Ryuuda and will be insistent that the rest of the crew show him that same respect.
Aside from their respect for the ship's heirarchy, this can be attributed to Ryuuda's near-immediate acceptance of Jinks' circumstances and allowing them to continue serving as a pirate in spite of their undead status, something they are immensely grateful for after years of aimlessness.
Prince respects Peacock, seeing her as a competent and sensible woman with a wealth of knowledge about the world. The freedom she had in life as a bounty hunter is something he finds very inspiring. He readily accepted her apology following her misunderstanding on his circumstances, acknowledging that she had been misinformed by the media.
He finds relief in having at least one crewmate who is by all accounts a normal human being and is always happy to get away from the more clownish members to spend some quiet time reading with her. As well as this, he often asks her to spar, trusting that he can learn a thing or two about swordplay from a strong opponent like her.
Peacock read about Prince's 'kidnapping' in newspapers and from there made assumptions about his circumstances. Thinking of him as nothing more than a helpless hostage, she was dismissive towards his claims to be a pirate, to her own detriment when he and Ryuuda teamed up against her.
The boy proved before long to be more capable than she'd been made to believe and she found respect for his efforts. Regretting letting the papers tell her what to think of someone and not forming her own opinion of him, she was ashamed and changed her ways.
Following this, she has come to view Prince as pleasant company, finding relief in his more down-to-earth personality compared to the rest of their crewmates. Though their sword styles are fundamentally different, she is always happy to accept his sparring requests.
Prince does not return Fonia's affections, as she reminds him of the snobbish and ignorant people he chose to leave behind in his former life. Begrudingly however, he finds her easy to talk to casually, as their similar upbringing means they share similar experiences and hobbies, ones he is unable to discuss meaningfully with the rest of the crew.
Though he agrees with his crewmates that she is small-minded and immature, he sympathises with her, understanding the prejudices instilled by the high class society she was raised in. Seeing shadows of his own upbringing within her, he believes that she is not beyond saving, and aims to offer her the chance to acquire some desperately-needed perspective and humility.
Fonia is infatuated with Prince and isn't shy about saying so, giving him preferential treatment compared to the rest of the crew, particularly in her time as cook. She is open about the fact she only remains on the ship in her efforts to win him over.
Shallowly, his status as former royalty is what initially drew her interests, though she has also come to appreciate his dashing good looks. As well as this, his kindness and patience with her has gradually struck at her heart, though she is too stubborn to voice these deeper feelings.
She smugly refers to herself as his fiancée, believing it merely a matter of time before he succumbs to her charms. She plans to have the both of them leave piracy behind and return to high society upon their engagement.
Prince at first simply viewed Ryuuda as a foolish pirate that he could manipulate into aiding his running away from home, intending to simply ditch him at the next opportunity.
However, the successful escape and Ryuuda's immediate acceptance of his gender, something he had not previously experience, has led to Prince feeling indebted to the man. As such, bound by his own code of honour, he agrees to remain as the Burning Red crew's navigator as they search for the treasure of the map he stole from his family palace.
Their relationship from then on becomes similar to that of a teenage boy embarassed by his goofy father, with Prince unable to admit the depths of his respect for Ryuuda due to the latter's silly nature.
Initially viewing the runaway prince as a valuable bargaining chip for his escape, Ryuuda was keen to keep Prince aboard after learning of his treasure map, unwittingly winning the boy's favour with his oblivious acceptance of his wishes and identity. He is the one to have renamed him Prince, a mononym the boy accepted taking up.
Since then, he has come to cheerfully think of the boy as his protege, despite Prince's denial of such and his own complete inability to teach him anything competently.
He is constantly boasting in efforts to impress the youngster, unable to consider that he considers him anything less than a legendary father figure. He is unaware that he does a better job winning Prince's favour when he's not making such exaggerated attempts to.
"A collected and logical fellow like Lu Zhang is an absolute breath of fresh air amongst the Ceran cabinet. Contrary to our abundance of... eccentrics, his level-headedness is truly a blessing amidst the chaos. A most trustworthy chap indeed!"
"Master Charleston is a reliable ally. He has the wisdom of many years, and his polite demeanour is respectable. It is easy to forget that he possesses a great bestial strength, as well."
"Good heavens! I forgot to actually meet young miss Akasha! If I did however, I'm sure the pair of us would get along swimmingly, as we're both lovers of nature and defenders of our precious island home's environment!"
"Ohh, monkey... Instinctually, I want to treat him like that! But I should try to remember that Charleston isn't just an animal... He's a polite young man!"
"Aw man, Didi's the best! She likes to call herself my big sis, and since my own's so unmanly and lame, I'm all about it! She buys me ice-cream and watches videos with me, so we have a lot of fun together. She even has a super badass dragon backpack, she's so cool!"
OHEMGEE where do I even begin with Takagi, he's adorable. He's always trying to have fun, but like all little boys he plays rough. I do check to see if he's okay though and offer to give him an ice cream. No matter how manly a man is, a man sometimes needs to cry, needs a hug, and certainly needs an ice cream.
Takagi is always a breath of fresh air within the group. He's always so positive and see's so much adventure in everything!
"Dressie seems like a good kid, ey seem to take eir role as medic seriously, so that's very commendable. I heard on the grapevine ey're a bit of a freak too, sounds like a riot, maybe I should invite em next time the gang's hitting up the town."
"Mister Ilk is truly a force to be reckoned with. He is without a doubt perhaps the most cunning mind on Cera, always cleverly plotting our next move, his mind is an enigma a mere ape such as myself can never hope to truly understand."
"Lucy is Lamia's cousin I think? He's always tagging along with us, but I don't think I've ever even seen his Xros Loader let alone any of his Digimon? I like the guy, he's cool, but he's really gotta capture something and start pulling his weight if he's gonna keep coming to Quartz with us, jeez."
"Lamia may be a girl, but she's so macho that I decided to make her an honourary man! She's not grateful at all though, she got really rude when I told her so. It's a shame, cuz she's really cool! Hope she lightens up sometime so we can hang out more, I think she'd be pretty good at parkour!"
"Urgh, this jerk! He's the smug old man who runs the Hunt and made the Xros Loaders, I guess. He helped me save Lilamon and all, so he can't be all bad, but I don't like his unmanly attitude at all! We'll show him that we can stop the infection and save both worlds, that'll shut him up!"
