Theron Boarglass is in love with his parabatai—a platonic warrior bond—Dominic Olivemoor. Theron hasn't told Dom this even though they've been sleeping together for 7 years under the agreement that it will continue as long as neither of them have girlfriends. Dominic, obsessed with his image in shadowhunter society, is increasingly becoming more frustrated and paranoid that someone will find out about his attraction to men, and breaks it off to date Nerissa Lakearrow, a fellow shadowhunter in their friend group. Dom's actions causes a fracture in his and Theron's friendship which only deepens as the nephilim are told to investigate a mysterious man buying blood from vampires.
