monster description

After being awoken from its long slumber, the golem Paroxysm has become completely corrupted, and no longer resembles anything living. The monster is a massive floating crystal decahedron, sharp-edged and smooth as glass, humming as it levitates over the coast. A shimmering, translucent black, it contains a ball of lightning that grows brighter, larger, and louder as its magic power charges.

monster abilities

At the decahedron's core is a furious knot of electricity. Every four hours, the bolts intensify and the huge shape explodes, devastating its surroundings with columns of lightning and sharp splinters of crystal. After self-destructing, the shape slowly reforms and repeats the process.

This monster levitates about 100 feet / 30 meters off the ground, and can only be reached via projectiles and flight.

monster behavior and location

The decahedron is levitating aimlessly over the Mirror Bay, menacing the west coast of Ivras. It does not seem to be headed in any particular direction, instead advancing towards whichever mage or opponent has damaged it most recently. It floats slowly, and does not respond to any stimuli other than attacks.

📯👹🏹 Join the Hunt!

  • Hunt Prompts: Every week the monster still lives, a new prompt will roll out for both Mages and Non-mage characters, describing the monster's behaviors, location, and the destruction it has wrought.  Collabs are encouraged for Hunt Prompts!
  • Art/writing/RP/Collab Submissions:  You don't have to respond to a specific prompt to kick some monster tail!!  Any submission showing mages whippin' ass (or otherwise responding to the Great Hunt) can count as an attack; just tag this profile as a "character" on your finished work!
  • Attacking and AIding:  Mages have the ability to attack a monster, or (for whatever their reasons may be) aid the monster, and try to keep it alive. When submitting work with your mage, please clearly indicate whether your mage is Attacking or Aiding the monster; if it is not clear, it will be assumed you are attacking.

⚔🛡🏆 How does this work?

The monster mentioned above is rampaging through Ivras! It is up to the Mages of Anathema to stop it. Only mages can damage or aid monsters.

Every piece of art, writing or roleplay made for this event featuring Mage characters counts as an "attack" or "aid" toward the monster; the Gold total for every piece is subtracted from or added to the monster's HP.  The event runs until the monster's HP is lowered to 0.

This monster has 240 HP. A grace period of 4 days will be allowed for submissions when it hits 0 HP, so works in progress can be completed. Check this profile for the most up-to-date look at the monster's HP.

Mage prompt: week 1

When your mage arrives to the coast, they find they are not alone. Spectators and mage protectors alike watch from the ground, and from ships near the coast, as a strange, shattered inorganic shape hovers loudly overhead. The thing moves slowly, floating towards the coastline, gathering levitating shards of itself as it goes. The observers are puzzled. It is out of range of the Navy's guns and arrows, and no one is quite sure what to do.

Someone nearby explains that the moment the shape finishes reforming, it will probably explode again, as it has twice already today. It sank a Navy ship this morning, they say. What does your mage do?

Hunt Prompt responses must be worth at least 1 gold (i.e. at least 100 words or at least an uncolored headshot). Hunt Prompt responses may be collaborations between multiple members.

Upload your response like any other submission and claim your gold. However, don't forget to tag the Hunt gallery in your piece in order for your "attack" to be counted!

Non-mage prompt: week 1

Your non-mage goes shopping only to find that the things they need are not in stock. The flustered merchant explains that trade has come to a standstill; a dangerous monster (no one knows what else it could possibly be) has prevented ships from entering some of Ivras's biggest harbors. What does your non-mage do? Do they know anyone on the ships? Are they on a ship themself?

Non-mage Prompt responses must be worth at least 1 gold (i.e. at least 100 words or at least an uncolored headshot), and earn double gold. Prompt responses may be collaborations between multiple members.

Upload your response like any other submission and claim your gold. However, don't forget to tag the Hunt gallery to claim double gold!
