Things you learned at an embarrassingly late age

Posted 7 years, 3 days ago (Edited 7 years, 3 hours ago) by MiscBoardMod

I saw this thread on reddit the other day and it was an overall pretty funny thread just because of some of the things people haven't learned until much later and some people who have had the same thing happen!

Now to be clear, do NOT  make fun of ANYONE in this thread!! It's only to share funny little stories and giggles etc, but please don't be rude to others about it! Some things may be obvious to you, while it's not the same for everyone!

As always, if there is any sensitive content that you feel may need to be blacked out, please do so!

There's not much more to add to this, so go wild!

i believed for a long time that hungry jack's chicken nuggets were actually spicy because when i was younger they messed up my order and gave me spicy chicken strips or something

it took me like 10+ years before i realised that their chicken nuggets are, well... just regular nuggets and i'd been saying how shit they were for years for no reason 😂

plymouth is pronounced "plimmuth," not "ply-mouth." i didn't know this until a couple of months ago. i am a senior in high school,

also, up until like... a year or so ago, i pronounced politics as "puh-liddics," like political

When I was 7, my grandma told me that video games were banned in China as an attempt to get me to do my school work. Well, I believed that...and didn't find out it wasn't true until I was 10.

Also, I pronounced licorice like "lick-or-rice" for the same time period as the one above.

I didn't know what the term "tweaker" meant until earlier this year? I'm in my first year of college and one of my friends from a more rural area asked how I dealt with "tweakers" while at home (I grew up in a large city and knew how to navigate public transit pretty early on). I had no clue what she was talking about.

I still don't fully understand how tampons work, either.

when i was like 6 i thought that if a woman kissed someone she would be pregnant! thats why i always refused to ever kiss my mom for a year straight.

I'm 22 and Flipino and I didn't know that we were Asian until my first year of high school.
Whenever I had to fill out those demographic things in school I was like "Oh yeah, Pacific Islander" not knowing wtf that even meant.
I mean, it wasn't wrong, but I was also convinced that Filipino and Asian were two separate and unrelated things OTL
