✒️ Writers' thread ✒️

Posted 6 years, 10 months ago (Edited 6 years, 7 months ago) by castra

I didn't see a thread like this and figured it'd be nice to have some sort of chillout chat for writers! ; v ;

Talk about your current writing projects, your stories, planning, plotting, whatever as long as it's even vaguely writing related!
Anyone who identifies as a writer is more than welcomed; there is no strict definition for the word or anything!

Here are also some questions to start things off:
✒️ Who are you?
✒️ How long have you been writing?
✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?
✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?
✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?
✒️ Any current writing projects?

And some rules, just to make sure this thread will stay nice for everyone!

✒️ Make sure to be polite and nice to each other
✒️ No vagueposting about other users or people in general; let's keep the negativity in vent threads!
✒️ Don't attack / insult other people's interest / favourite genres etc. Discussion is good and disagreements happen, but attacking and insulting are hardly a respectful way of communication.
✒️ Preferably keep things SFW and black out sensitive / upsetting / NSFW-ish content like this

CAMP NANO NEXT MONTH!!! Is anyone going to join? And if yes, what will you work on?

I'll be continuing my main nano work from last year so I could hopefully finish it then! Aiming for 50k words though so I might end up writing something else too

Thomas_Everstorm

Greetings, I like to write alot so let's start with the basics.

✒️ Who are you?

~ I am Thomas Everstorm, I do a lot of roleplay and play videogames and do not admit it's an addiction (it isn't I swear).

✒️ How long have you been writing?

It started mainly in highschool which is about....6-7 years ago now? Time flies so fast I forgot when I started but I do it more off and on to be honest.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

English. I'm horrible at other languages and don't want to attempt it.

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

I love roleplay and writing characters. I always find the personality of characters the most enticing part about them and exploring how they would act in scenarios gives me a sense of fun that very few other things can produce.

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

Fantasy, usually a magical realism approach to things is my forte, where things are somewhat grounded in reality but being able to twist a few things adds a whole spin that the world is fresh and interesting to dive into.

✒️ Any current writing projects?

Continuing my RP Tips/Tricks collection (and uploading them here) is my current ongoing one whenever inspiration strikes me.

Working on character arcs, as many have a story and I have them in mind but I do them through RP so I usually need someone to RP them with me.

✒️Other

I use G+ alot as it was my first platform but I do wish to expand my horizons

I'm relatively new on the site but feel free to check out my work so far (note i'm still importing stuff)

I am looking for an artist to draw characters based off descriptions and profiles.

I've been trying to write as much as I can recently but with uni, I hardly find the time ;v;

What I have been doing is trying to journal a bit more.  Just writing down ideas and things to keep my stories in my mind.  It's actually really helping me figure out character relationships and plot points without getting me burned out.

Ooh let's try to revive this

REVIVE INTENSIFIES
✒️ Who are you?

I'm Raven Richard, either or :3c I an an anthropology major, focusing on East Asia. I study theology and history for fun and work as a multi-faith minister.

✒️ How long have you been writing?

Oh uh, I have no idea, I am moving atm and found some old story ideas from when I was 12 (over ten years ago) that I may revive.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

English for now, I'm not fluent enough in anything else to write multilingual.

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

I love roleplaying and just making characters in general. I write lots of short stories and uh, half written some novels hehehe I always love writing romance stories too, often times 18+ ones

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

Romance!!!, 18+, historical, fantasy, sometimes action thriller and horror.

✒️ Any current writing projects?

Buckle up:

  • Historical story of an anthropologist crashing into an island eternally stuck in feudal Japan and realizing he's actually a dragon
  • Romance between a king of a foreign country falling in love with the POTUS and the politics that arise from that (NOT THE CURRENT ONE, A MADE UP ONE I STG)
  • Classic Western gunslinger story of an outlaw who can slightly manipulate time
  • Modern/slight futuristic story of a vampire and other mythical beings slowly re-emerging into Earth's population and the struggle they have to not get killed off and trying to get accepted and fit into modern society.
  • Another romance of a posh man falling in love with his butler and the butler discovering his sexuality.
Might have more, but that's whats on my plate currently
ShadmeTheAngel

This seems like fun!

✒️ Who are you?

I am Shadmé! At least, that’s my online alias. I just graduated from high school and will be majoring in biochem! I like writing, drawing, RPing, singing, playing cello, and playing Nintendo games!

✒️ How long have you been writing?

I’ve had an active imagination and have been writing for as long as I can remember. My first serious story cropped up around 2012, when my English teacher introduced me to NaNoWriMo. It didn’t get touched to be revised until very recently. My first serious fanfic appeared in 2013, and my first serious story that’s actually been published online appeared in 2014!

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

English! I’m monolingual.

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

Multiple people RPs with an intriguing prompt and fantasy setting are the bomb! The best part of writing and coming up with ideas, in my mind, is creating plots and characters that are as original as possible. My trademark is to come up with things you’d never see coming...which often winds up with nice characters becoming traitors, everything going downhill for the protagonists, random deaths, etc. XD I like twisting stereotypes, too. For instance, take my pair of angels, Shadmé and Lightmé. Shadmé’s colored like a grim dark angel but is actually the heroine, while Lightmé, the brightly-colored angel, is the one who likes ruining the day!

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

Fantasy and adventure! I’d love to dabble in sci-fi one day. I avoid gushy romance by the plague; it’s often too overdone for me, and I find myself wondering what the point of it is when it’s shoved in stories unnecessarily. XD

✒️ Any current writing projects?

Yes! Feathers of Light and Dark is my Kid Icarus fanfiction starring Shadmé, my online sona, and her quest to resolve her amnesia while she helps the canon characters fight off the Underworld. It sounds like it has all the elements of self-OC wish fulfilment, but I promise there’s some good stuff in there.

The Fire Within is finished, but I’m still working on its sequel, The Fire Unleashed! These are books about six people with elemental power and their quest to start a dark god from rising and wreaking havoc across the world...or is it? I’m kinda treating them as drafts because there’s quite a bit of pacing I need to fix, but they aren’t the worst things ever.

For NaNoWriMo 2015, I wrote a story starring one of my reoccurring RP characters entitled War of Myth. It’s about a human-wyvern shapeshifter’s quest to bring peace to two warring factions: the nation of humans and the nation of mythical creatures. I’m trying to decide whether it needs a partial rewrite/extention or if it should be split into two books- there is still more of the story to tell!- but either way, it requires heavy editing before it goes up.

Remember the NaNoWriMo story I mentioned creating earlier in 2012? The whole story’s gone through a revamp and is now going to be a four-book series. The whole series takes place on a planet inhabited by elemental animals and no humans, and four of these animals must unite in order to complete a prophecy that spells disaster for their planet. Each book stars one of them! Stell’s Quest was written for NaNo ‘16, and Flatt’s Victory was written for NaNo ‘17. Bud’s Discovery is slated for NaNo ‘18, leaving Zak’s Redemption for NaNo ‘19!

GormKitty

✒️ Who are you?

Hello, I'm Kitty, or Gorm as some like to call me. I'm a 25 year old female with a passion for writing even though I'm bad for procrastination, something I am trying to fix.

✒️ How long have you been writing?

I have been creating stories since I was around 14 and really got into trying to write at age 15 so about 10 years now.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

English, my first and only language.

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

I tend to be able to mostly write short stories though I try to write longer things. Pretty much all my stories are set in a magical world of my own creation called Cenore.
I have done the odd bit of poetry in the past that I enjoyed but don't really have the drive for it.

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

I'm not completely sure as I don't tend to think of genres while I am writing but I suppose fantasy is a big one and I am a sucker for romance whether it is the main focus or just background stuff.
I think I do tend to also write adventure stories as well.

✒️ Any current writing projects?

I have too many projects but the main one I am trying to work on at the moment is a story I started to plot out because I thought time loops would be an interesting concept to write about. The main characters being Roman and Ulna.
Though a couple of side characters have insisted on having their own story told as well so that's a companion story I am working on as well. So far the side story is being written a bit more at the moment though because I am a little stuck on how to continue on with the main story right now. A part of me wants a certain event to happen but another part of me thinks it's a little too soon, I feel it's too close to a big revelation and the event would change the story a lot as well. I just got to think of something to fill in for now to extend the current part of the story a bit longer so the story does rush through too much, I have a problem with doing that.

Spaceghostess

✒️ Who are you?

I'm Eggy! Aside from writing, I enjoy drawing, video games, musicals,  and cooking. My favorite anime is Yu Yu Hakusho -- Also, I'm 25.

✒️ How long have you been writing?

Wow -- hmm -- I'd say about 13 years have passed since I really took up writing as a hobby. I got my writing start with Fanfiction on Quizilla, if that means anything to anyone anymore.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

I'm only fluent in English, so that's all I'm comfortable writing in. Although, I'm currently studying a few languages in my spare time. Hopefully one day I'll be able to expand my list!

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

Mainly Fanfiction of the Yu Yu Hakusho variety (usually including OCs, if I'm being honest, but I also love writing about the main cast). I prefer writing multi-chapter works over one-shots.

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

I love writing romances. However, my main talent seems to be writing tragedies. I'm still trying to find a healthy balance.

✒️ Any current writing projects?

Several! First and foremost, I'm the writer for a small VN group named Wanago! We're working on our first (free) VN, Heart Time Job. Additionally, I have an on-going (since 2011...) Yu Yu Hakusho Fanfiction named Work For It. Despite the running theme, I promise I write more than office romances.

As for projects that I haven't yet made public, I'm working on another Yu Yu Hakusho fanfiction with Kuwabara as the main character called The Tickle Feeling, a short set of Novellas called Giving Up The Ghost, which I plan to self-publish on Amazon once it's a bit more beefy, annnnd numerous flash fictions regarding my characters that I write for fun. Now that the literature option is here, I'm looking forward to sharing these snippets!

ResonantCrimson

✒️ Who are you?

Feel free to call me Kai! c: I'm 25. Born and bred Canadian gal. 99% gay (there's rare instances I like men, and by rare I mean rare LOL). Big anime buff and love to read, whether it be published or no as well as manga.

✒️ How long have you been writing?

I always say since I was seven, but honestly, I've probably been writing longer - I just can't remember writing things before I was that age. I started taking it seriously when I was eighteen and I hope to make a career out of it someday (aka write novels and the like). I've done professional writing (commissions) since I was nineteen or so, and I love doing it!

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

English. I know a smidgen of other languages, but I'm only fluent in English whoops.

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

I like to write about LGBTQ+ topics 99% of the time. By that I mean gay / lesbian / bi characters, but I'm hoping to start writing trans children as well; I just don't want to mess up somewhere and offend someone orz. Love is another big thing I write - in fact most of the things I've written contain love between two characters. I'm hoping to branch out and write more things not in my comfort zone (for instance I have a character who was big into drugs and violence before he met his boyfriend and I want to explore that) sometime.

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

Romance and Fantasy are my two biggest genres. There's been very few instances where I've written something that hasn't had romance as a main theme. I'm branching out and writing some non fantastical pieces, but even those always have romance as the primary genre. I'm so predictable LOL. I also like genres such as fluff, angst, tragedy, drama, suspense, etc... Basically I enjoy things that tug at your heartstrings, whether they be tragic or otherwise.

✒️ Any current writing projects?

My biggest one is my novel I've been planning since 2013. The writing process has just been... slow. I rewrote the first two chapters because I hated them and I have to be in a certain mood to write it so that's fun. Not. I also write little stories on the side (both fandom and original) but my novel is my biggest thing I've been contentiously working on.

Kenmai

ooh sounds fun here we go

✒️ Who are you?
What up, im carly, 19 and i nvr fucken learned how to write.

✒️ How long have you been writing?
Uhhh i rememebr really getting into it at teh start of highschool so.... mid 2010? Ironically enough that was my peak 'otaku' phase so i was very inspired by cheesy romance anime stories. I'd fill up books writing pages of my own stories (they were awful of course but i really loved them) or id fill up other books with comic drawings and dialogue. Like literally handdrawn handwritten stuff filling b OOKS. and i'd carry at least two of them everywhere so if i got ideas and stuff i could just write it down then. I think i carried the books around for a full year and a half before i got more interested int he drawing aspect. But i still posted stuff to fanficnet (quite cringy but still appreciated works) before moving onto ao3 in like 2015

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?
I can only write somewhat confidently in english. I know spanish well enough and even though im better at reading/writing it than speaking/listening to it i do not trsut myself to reach out to a spanish audience fhkds. I'll reconsider maybe at a minor level like if a character speaks a different language ill take sometime to research the phrases properly.

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?
Like i said before romance stuff has always inspired me. Im really good at writing soft and fluffy some characters meet and get together with a few hitches types of stories. I can do action and drama only a little well as im still learning how to plan things out. i feel like i rush those aspects fhkds but i write TONS of fanfics for fandoms i love...right now im still really hooked for writing for bnha and haikyuu

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

Sounds fun! Let's go...

✒️ Who are you?

I'm Jukes (actually, Reid)! I'm in high school and I've had the same fuckin characters for years now B) No regarts

✒️ How long have you been writing?

I've written ever since I was little. A couple years ago I realized how much I loved writing poems, specifically! But... I have a friend who also likes to write poems, and often puts me down for my work. Not on purpose, but... they won't notice how they're hurting me, and I don't know how to tell them.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

Mostly English! I know some Hebrew as well, I hope to write in Hebrew at some point (SPOILER: I will)

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

My writing style is very odd and I don't see it very often. It's a kind of poetic style, but it's also first-person present-tense. I also switch character perspectives more often than not. That's the case for the story I'm working on right now!

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

I... wouldn't know how to place the Meaning of Life. It's deep, poetic... there's some romance, some action... I don't know! Words can't really describe the thing that it is...

✒️ Any current writing projects?

The Meaning of Life! It's my first big project, and I'm on my 52nd chapter I believe! <3 I write it all in some cheap crappy comp. book from Walmart! Each Act has 20 chapters, so after Act 3 is done, I'm starting the second book...
