✒️ Writers' thread ✒️

Posted 6 years, 10 months ago (Edited 6 years, 7 months ago) by castra

I didn't see a thread like this and figured it'd be nice to have some sort of chillout chat for writers! ; v ;

Talk about your current writing projects, your stories, planning, plotting, whatever as long as it's even vaguely writing related!
Anyone who identifies as a writer is more than welcomed; there is no strict definition for the word or anything!

Here are also some questions to start things off:
✒️ Who are you?
✒️ How long have you been writing?
✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?
✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?
✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?
✒️ Any current writing projects?

And some rules, just to make sure this thread will stay nice for everyone!

✒️ Make sure to be polite and nice to each other
✒️ No vagueposting about other users or people in general; let's keep the negativity in vent threads!
✒️ Don't attack / insult other people's interest / favourite genres etc. Discussion is good and disagreements happen, but attacking and insulting are hardly a respectful way of communication.
✒️ Preferably keep things SFW and black out sensitive / upsetting / NSFW-ish content like this

@sashka In my experience the regional forums can be super fun! I seem to be one of the few of my own region who write in English though, and those who do usually do fanfics, but they are a clear minority. You can totally join the site though and check it out yourself; having an account doesn't mean you HAVE to participate this year ; v ;!

I went ahead and joined. :') Not sure how soon I will be able to write something there but I checked the site-wide forum and the subforums are all interesting. As for the regional forum I've mentioned earlier, from what I have observed by the replies majority of the members seem to be foreigners who reside in Thailand. Only a couple of persons so far that I have my suspicion to be native Thais. I guess not many Thais are aware of NaNoWriMo's existence.

I made a new game thread [IC] Association rambling !! Basically it's an IC game where the characters get to ramble about something they associate with what the OC above them has talked about! A good chance to to just write something for the sake of it while learning something about your own character AND the one above yours

This won't let me bump anymore so I'm just grossly double posting and hoping it will count as a bump.....

Anyway how are you nano plans coming along? Do you think we should make a nano thread here (there was one last year) or should we just keep the nano talk here unless someone else makes a thread?

My own nano plans changed entirely when I realized the stories I want to write are not something I feel good about right now, so I'm just switching over to some I have in progress right now. I have only 5 chapters done to this one MG-ish story I have been writing so I decided I'll just write and hopefully finish that one! And then work on random projects after that so I can reach 100k

Alright my post didn't bump so I logged in here just to bump this thread

▷ Who are you?

My name is Colyn, and I am a writer that comes from the Philippines. If I weren't a writer, I'd just be your local weeaboo. I also am currently the feature editor in my school's newspaper club. I'm mostly on Twitter and Facebook, by the way! Though I enjoy Toyhouse, so I'll be here often, too.

▷️ How long have you been writing?

I've been writing even as a child since I had no playmates due to how antisocial I was back then, so I'd talk to myself and build my own worlds. However, I've gotten more inspired to write after I met friends who collab with me and discovered great writers such as Ryukishi07, Gen Urobuchi, and many more.

▷️ Your preferred languages in writing?

I've been mostly chatting on the net throughout my life, so I'm only comfortable with English.

▷️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

I'd love to write and build my own worlds while I treat my OCs as actual people! I do mostly write tragedy because I'm edgy, though... However, I'm not the type to like my stories all sad, so I base my stories sometimes on controversies I encounter on life, such as religious controversies.

▷️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

I love sci-fi and supernatural so much! Recently have been reading about the medieval genre, though I really want to have a big range of genres to write about.

▷️ Any current writing projects?

I have a lot of ideas on mind, but I currently have three stories on mind.

  • Thalassia: There is a city inside a chasm found underwater, it is called as Thalassia. It leads to a city of mermaids and strange, unnamed creatures. Although it is rumored peaceful, most humans will not survive the lack of oxygen on this area.
    • Thalassia used to be a town where there was once a civilization led by humans in it, though the area sunk after a volcanic activity.

  • Cardinal Decree: Death comes to men and women of all ages. They were tired of cowering in fear, always having to face it no matter who they are.
    • The art of resurrection and necromancy was forbidden, men had their goals and decided to upgrade their race with it.
    • Somewhere in the mid-late 18th century, Science seems to be recognized for gradually unlocking the world's secret. However, a few used it in order to be the medium for black arts in order to perform necromancy―it was successful.
    • Henceforth, a species that could cheat death was born―pale and somewhat skinny, they're capable of numerous abilities we normal humans could never have nonetheless. They were known as vampires. (I've been also processing this for like two years haha;; here's the folder if you want)

  • Achromatopia: a place found between Earth and Underworld; a place which consists of sublimibal aura. Living beings who give birth here will always result to a Forlanthrope.
    • This world is imbued with unproductivity, coloring everyone and their surroundings black and white. It lacked art and positivity. Therefore, people who lived here linger in their eternal despair as they could never have potential like nornal humans. However, why did such a world exist? There are only three worlds, the Elysian Fields, the Planet Earth, and the Infernal Underworld. This is a world that shouldn't have existed.
      • People who had the potential could are the main prey of the Forlanthropes, for they are the best pawns to eliminate Forlanthropes. Some may side with them, some may be the brainy detectives and strategists, and some may be the brawns who yearn to eliminate their very existence.

@uchuujinwanco Welcome to the thread!! It's nice to see someone who also likes Ryukishi's writing!!

ktensai

Hello! I'm a newcomer to these sorts of threads, and I hope we'll get along ^^

✒️ Who are you?

Who am I? An easier question would be "what are you?" I'm a halfhearted nihilist, a dreaming lexiphane, and - above all - a creature who breathes lies. Those make me perfectly suited to this profession, no?

✒️ How long have you been writing?

Seriously? For three or four years, now.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

English and Mandarin.

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

I enjoy telling stories wrought by emotions. Whether it prefers to be packaged by a thriller, a romantic comedy, or a poem, as long as it can leave my hands satisfied I am happy myself. These days, it's rather difficult for me to attempt longer works, however, as school is tripping things up for me ^^'

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

Dark subjects are my specialties; I've accumulated far too much knowledge on them. Additionally, I tend to fall back on romance rather too often, as that's the genre I'm most used to due to it being so prevalent in modern books. What I enjoy the most is definitely fantasy, however. Painstakingly stacking the pieces up one by one, building up a suitable foundation and then - watching as they fly together of their own accord, slipping into each other's embraces not as if they were made for each other, but lovers who have grown to accept the other's imperfections as well as the silver linings. Building worlds is what I love to do. What a pity I never have the time these days.

✒️ Any current writing projects?

I'm afraid that's a secret, dear.

✒️ Who are you?

hey, i'm an artist / writer / coder. i go by several (read like four) aliases as a result lol. since toyhou.se is mainly an art center, i'm using the alias i would go by as an artist; cyhnio. as a writer, i actually go by two different aliases depending on the situation. for example, if you rp a ton and you enjoy magi / hetalia / animanga forums in general, you'll likely know me as sunflower. however, when it comes to fanfics and stuff, i'm called ice music. i'd change it to sunflower if i hadn't grown so attached to the name 'ice music' though lol.

✒️ How long have you been writing?

uhhh - good question. i'd say at least three years i've been rping. honestly, a lot (read all) of my writing skills can be attributed to rping so i kinda count that as when i started writing lol.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

english - i'm afraid i don't speak any other language.

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

i'm obviously a big fan of rping lol. but specifically, i enjoy writing comedic moments and maybe a sprinkle of drama. honestly, i love slow burn romance but i'm not too big on the sexual stuff. i'm very much a romantic at heart. but seriously though, i'd choose platonic relationship between two best friends or siblings over that of a romantic couple. although, i do admit i enjoy a nice, warm, and fuzzy love story. also, when it comes to my most innocent of characters, i'm addicted to angst. look guys, i don't like angst. in fact, i hate it. yet despite my mind reeling from the thought of reading one more angsty fic, i write it all the time. it comes ridiculously naturally to me and so i end up torturing most of my characters when i rp. yay.

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

um, good question. i really enjoy writing fantasy but sometimes the world building can get pretty tiresome. personally, as a favorite genre, i really enjoy the slice of life and the simplicity it brings. so yeah, i really prefer writing short stories - one shots really - about little snippets of life. simple, sometimes fluffy, sometimes sad, but really feelsy stuff. oh but, one thing i do want to get into is mystery! but overall, i'm honestly not that big on drama. probably because that's literally what my entire life is: drama.

✒️ Any current writing projects?

not really - i spend the majority of my time either sleeping / or writing if i'm not studying for some clep exam i want to pass.

littlebirby

✒️ Who are you?

Birby! I'm a freshman, 14 years old, and (obviously) love writing. I also enjoy drawing, acting, singing (badly), weight training, and watching creepy stuff that will keep me up at night.

✒️ How long have you been writing?

Since third grade-ish. We did little fiction-writing exercises in class and I fell in love. I started making characters after that, and then finally developing universes and storylines. I started writing my first novel, which was inevitably scrapped, in about fifth or sixth grade.

✒️ Your preferred languages in writing?

English. I know three words in Spanish and that's it. Throw me a bone here, people.

✒️ What kind of things do you write / enjoy writing?

Novels are fun, but I have such bad and recurring writer's block it's hard to follow through. Screenplays, scripts, and plays work really well for me. I've written two plays - a murder-mystery called "Twelve Hours" and a paranormal comedy called "The Night Shift" - both of which have been performed by a organization that focuses on women in the arts (The Night Shift hasn't been put on yet, but it's in the works)!

✒️ Favourite genres for your own stories?

I like dark themes, ie. mystery, thriller, paranormal, but with a comedic twist. I relate a lot to what I write, so if I write something upsetting or dark I'll probably be unnaturally upset for the duration of writing the story. I don't have any problem writing romance, YA fiction, etc.

✒️ Any current writing projects?

C is a novel idea of mine, maybe a webcomic if I get good at drawing ever... the story follows a teenager named Olive who's plagued by spirits - sort of. They're not dangerous nor do they want to hurt her. They're simply people who need a second chance at living, but by some phenomena were made ghostly and only visible to Olive. Everything else is explained throughout the story, I've done enough rambling on this one. I'm hoping to get into NaNoWriMo this year with a story about a closeted nonbinary kid and your cliche Bad Egg, but instead of breaking stuff she works as a performer of sorts, taking dares and earning money off them. The nb kid is blackmailed and goes to Resident Bad Egg for help, and in turn they become Best Friends(tm). The storyline's still in the works so bear with me here.
